Driver accused of fatal Mustang crash in Truganina, Melbourne granted bail
A man accused of being behind the wheel of a Mustang which hit the back of a parked semi-trailer, killing his passenger, has been released on provisional bail.
Vikramjeet Singh, 23, allegedly hit the unoccupied vehicle on Dunmore Dr at Truganina, in Melbourne's west, about 1am last Wednesday.
Singh's passenger, his 24-year-old girlfriend Arshdeep Kaur, died on impact.
After being charged with dangerous driving causing death and careless driving, he faced the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday, which heard he had worked as a truck driver for three years.
The court also heard Singh is in Australia on a bridging visa and has had had no criminal convictions or a record of bad driving in his six years in the country.
Singh was granted bail with a $25,000 surety. He must report to police twice a week and is not allowed to leave Victoria or drive any sort of motor vehicle.
Outside the court Singh's lawyer Hayden Rattray said: 'Mr Singh asked me to express his condolences to the family of the young woman who passed away'.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help Kaur's family.
In the fundraiser she was described as a 'kind and vibrant student'.
'Her sudden passing has deeply affected her friends and family, both here and in India. Arshdeep came to Australia with big dreams that ended far too soon.'
Singh will face court again in November.

‘OUR ANGEL': Tears flow for much-loved girl killed in crash
A 15-year-old girl who was killed when the car she was in with five other teenagers rolled in the South West has been remembered for her ability to bring a 'ray of sunshine everywhere she went'. Caitlyn Bragger was a passenger in a Toyota Landcruiser driving on Scarp Road near the intersection of Hoffman Road, in Hoffman, east of Yarloop, when it left the road, rolling several times on Saturday night. Police say the car was being driven by a 16-year-old boy. He was taken by ambulance to Bunbury Regional Hospital along with a 17-year-old boy for treatment of serious injuries. An 18-year-old boy and two 16-year-old girls were treated for minor injuries. Caitlyn's loved ones have launched a fundraiser in the wake of the tragedy. 'It is with heavy hearts we share, that on the 7th of June we suddenly and tragically lost our beautiful girl Caitlyn,' Mekayla Cowcher wrote. 'Gone way too soon at the young age of only 15. 'She was a daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, aunty and friend. She bought a ray of sunshine everywhere she went, so outgoing and never left a dull moment in life. 'No one ever expects something like this to happen, you can't prepare yourself,' she said. The fundraiser has been launched to help cover the teenager's funeral expenses. 'Every donation, no matter the amount will go directly towards giving our girl Caitlyn the dignified farewell she deserves. We never expected to say goodbye to her beautiful soul so soon,' Ms Cowcher wrote. 'We're so grateful for your love, support, and any contribution you can make during this difficult time. If you're unable to donate, sharing this with others means the world to us. 'Forever 15, forever in our memory and hearts. Our Angel In Heaven.' Witnesses Kane, Rocquo, Macy, and Jett were camping near the area the incident when they saw the horror crash. 'We just saw their lights go through the bush, and then just bang and it was just screams after that,' they said. The four friends rushed to the aid of the crash victims. 'So we just all went up there, and just, it was just a mess. It was pieces everywhere, like everyone was just bleeding,' Rocquo said. 'We were trying to pick the roof up, we were trying to open the doors, like, trying to get everyone out, but you just, you can't you can't pick it up. You can't do anything. And it's just sad.' The witnesses said the roof of the car had completely caved in. To donate, visit this link.

Nearby campers told 7NEWS that they saw the car snaking around the area near them and watched as the headlight moved through trees in the distance before they heard a loud bang and screaming. 'No one ever expects something like this to happen, you can't prepare yourself.' Bragger's aunt, Danica Pierce, said her 'heart is seriously struggling to take all this pain'. 'You are going to be so missed, now an angel in heaven but way too young, my heart breaks.' Cowcher remembered Bragger as an 'outgoing' girl. 'She was a daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, aunty and friend. She brought a ray of sunshine everywhere she went. 'Known for her kindness, unique sense of humour, and devotion to her family and friends.'

Pheobe's mum slams charity fundraiser
The mother of missing Queensland teenager Phoebe Bishop has slammed a fundraiser raising money in her daughter's name. Ms Bishop, 17, was declared missing after she failed to check-in for a flight from Bundaberg to visit her boyfriend in Western Australia on May 15. On Friday, police said they found human remains near the Good Night National Scrub Park outside of Gin Gin, but were yet to confirm if they were Ms Bishop's. The teen's roommates, James Wood, 34, and Tanika Bromley, 33, have been charged with her murder and are alleged by police to have moved her body multiple times. Amid an outpouring of grief, Ms Bishop's mother, Kylie Johnson, took to social media on Sunday to condemn a GoFundMe campaign set up in her daughter's name. 'This hasn't been approved or supported by the family,' Ms Bishop wrote on Facebook of the campaign, which was titled 'In memory of Phoebe Bishop'. The campaign appeared to have been suspended after raising just $24. Credit: Newswire On Monday, the campaign appeared to have been suspended after raising just $24, stating that: 'This fundraiser is no longer accepting donations'. According to the GoFundMe page, the campaign was organised by a Winfield woman and featured images of the teenager. Riddled with typos, the campaign featured a stated goal of raising 'monies' for 'Pheobe's mother, Kylie, to help the family, to donate to where they choose'. A separate GoFundMe campaign, which has been endorsed by Ms Bishop's family, has raised more than $6000 to a goal of $17,000. Organised by Tracey Berends, the campaign is aimed at raising money for the SES and agencies working to find Ms Bishop, and those that supported her in her life. 'We would also like to be able to donate to the YSchool in Bundaberg on Pheobe's behalf where Pheobe thrived from their support and guidance,' Ms Berends wrote. On Friday, police found human remains near the Good Night National Scrub Park outside of Gin Gin. QLD Police Credit: Supplied 'Pheobe had a gentle soul and a generous spirit — always caring for others and standing up for what was right. 'We want her legacy to live on and by paying it forward to the amazing volunteers and community. 'All funds raised will be donated to these carefully chosen community groups that work to support our Wide Bay community.' A further GoFundMe campaign purporting to be raising money for 'any individual family member or legal representative' was still online on Monday, The organiser, Melbourne-based Dilraj Dilraj, said 'being conducted independently' and was not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the family of Phoebe Bishop. A candlelight vigil at Kolan Community Park in Gin Gin was held on Sunday in honour o Pheobe Bishop. NewsWire / Paul Beutel Credit: News Corp Australia 'Funds raised will be allocated towards facilitating public memorial efforts, awareness activities, community response co-ordination, and covering administrative and professional costs necessary to manage this campaign appropriately,' the campaign stated. As of Monday afternoon, the campaign had raised only $50 from one donation to a goal of $3m. It comes after a candlelight vigil at Kolan Community Park in Gin Gin was held on Sunday in honour of the missing teen. A second candlelight vigil is expected at Buss Park in nearby Bundaberg on Monday from 5pm.
