Suspect Arrested in $1.5 Million Theft of Cadillac Escalades

Yahoo21-03-2025
A 24-year-old man was taken into custody recently after multiple Cadillac Escalade-Vs were stolen outside Detroit, authorities said.
The man was identified as Deon Brooks, of Warren, Michigan, and he was being held on $2 million bond, according to the Detroit Free Press. Brooks was arrested after the Escalade-Vs—valued at around $1.5 million—were stolen from a GM lot in Warren, where they were stored before being shipped to dealers or customers.

The 682 horsepower Escalade-Vs start at $164,495 and are the high-performance variant of Cadillac's Escalade full-size luxury SUV. Escalade-V ESVs start at $3,000 more and are Cadillac's most expensive model, at least until the Celestiq, which is expected to cost around $340,000.
Police think that Brooks ''retagged' the vehicles with cloned vehicle identification numbers and sold them out of state for a large profit,' according to the Free Press. Seized in the probe was also a list of possibly suspicious items, including methamphetamine, fake State Department documents, and a Chrysler Pacifica. The suspect was arrested on March 11.
Car theft in Michigan is an enemy that automakers, owners, and residents have been accustomed to since the beginning of cars in Michigan, in part because of simply how many cars are manufactured there and left on lots waiting for shipment to customers or lots elsewhere. High-performance cars like the Escalade-V are especially in demand since they can fetch the biggest price.
Auto theft in Michigan has also increased in recent years, with 28,404 cars stolen there in 2023, a 4.1 rise from the previous year, according to the state's attorney general. That number is also up 48.4 percent compared to five years ago, and Michigan authorities announced in February that they would be expanding a statewide task force to combat car crime. Authorities said that there would also be a dedicated prosecutor to 'pursue high-level auto theft rings operating in Metro Detroit.'

GM Once Again Shows Off Radical Corvette Concepts

Once again, GM has revealed some Corvette concepts which push the sports car in an exotic hypercar direction. The Corvette CX and CX.R Vision Gran Turismo were paraded at The Quail during Monterey Car Week. Thankfully, neither one will ever roll off a production this is the third time this year GM has revealed such concepts for the Corvette's future and we think it's a not-so-subtle hint of things to come. But we have a serious problem with this direction. Since its inception, the Corvette has been a blue collar sports car, America's sports car, that was not only fast and cool but also accessible. You didn't have to be some rich guy with a mansion to own one, unlike Ferraris and such. While the C8 Corvette pushed the sports car upmarket some, while also giving it an exotic flavor by putting the engine midship, it has remained fairly accessible, although sadly not as much as in the past. But it seems GM really wants to make the Corvette its vanity project to take on Ferrari, Koenigsegg, Lamborghini, McLaren, and others. We guess it's to show Americans can make ridiculous hypercars with inflated prices, too. This sort of attitude has birthed other ridiculous things like modern muscle cars which cost more than $100,000 (those were supposed to be even more attainable than the Corvette). GM says it's doing the work to 'propel (the Corvette) into the future.' And we guess in the future one will have to be a rich and powerful executive to enjoy one. We get these concepts are design exercises, but we also know concepts affect future production cars. Our hope is this fascination with making the Corvette so over-the-top doesn't result in a future model that has a base MSRP of $750,000 or more, pricing out the enthusiasts who have been loyal to the sports car for decades. PGA Tour 2026 schedule unveiled: Trump gets back in picture with Doral event

ATLANTA – President Donald Trump is back in business with the PGA Tour in 2026. The Tour announced its schedule for next year on Tuesday and it includes a return to Trump Doral's Blue Monster near Miami in May for a new signature event to be called – for now – the Miami Championship. It is being announced without a title sponsor but Golfweek sources say one is expected to be announced in the coming months, well before the tournament. Doral was a longtime PGA Tour stop Doral was a longtime Tour host until it was dumped from the schedule in 2016 when title sponsor Cadillac elected to end ties with the Tour and the tournament and a replacement couldn't be found there. Instead, the Tour moved the event south of the border, which became the VidantaWorld Mexico Open. With the introduction of the Miami Championship to the regular season schedule, the Mexico Open will now be contested as part of the FedEx Cup Fall. One event has dropped off the schedule: the Barracuda Championship in Truckee, Calif., which has been played opposite the British Open in recent years. Trump courses have been used on multiple occasions for LIV Golf events, including at Trump Doral. The President attempted to help negotiations between the Tour and LIV on two occasions earlier this year but nothing came to fruition. More: Schupak: PGA Tour considers taking Tour Championship on the road, a home run of an idea The return to Doral's Blue Monster (April 27-May 3) will mark the 56th playing of a Tour event at the course, which hosted the Tour annually from 1962 to 2016. The Miami Championship gives the Tour nine signature events for 2026, up one from the previous two years. It includes a stretch of two majors and four signature events in a span of seven weeks, beginning with the Masters in April through the PGA Championship in May. [The lone regular event will be the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, a two-man team event.] 'We're excited to showcase the game's greatest players competing at golf's most iconic venues,' said PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp. 'Inspired by our players and fans, we're accelerating the Tour's evolution and ushering in a new era of innovation on and off the course.' Full PGA Tour schedule has adjustments The FedEx Cup regular season features a total of 35 official FedEx Cup events and begins in January with The Sentry (Jan. 5-11) in Maui, Hawaii. Notable adjustments to the schedule include The Genesis Invitational returning to The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California – it was held at Torrey Pines last year due to California wildfires – and the Truist Championship (May 4-10) returning to Quail Hollow Club, after hosting the 2025 PGA Championship. Schedule changes include the Tour spending consecutive weeks in the Dallas/Fort Worth area with THE CJ Cup Byron Nelson (May 18-24) and Charles Schwab Challenge (May 25-31), while the Corales Puntacana Championship (from mid-April to July 13-19) and the Rocket Classic (from late June to July 27-Aug. 2) will shift dates on the calendar. Full details regarding the 2026 FedEx Cup Fall will be announced at a later date.

General Motors' Cadillac Gears Up For Its Formula One Debut In 2026

General Motors Co.'s Cadillac Formula One team is busy getting ready for its 2026 debut. In March, the Detroit-based automaker received formal approval to field an 11th team in Formula One next year. Currently, F1 has 10 race teams with two cars each. 'Part of my job is to build a management structure that can result in a competitive Formula One team at the end of it,' Graeme Lowdon, 60, Cadillac team principal, said in an interview earlier this year on The Race YouTube cannel. In that interview, Lowdon likened the GM Formula One effort to how the U.S. landed men on the moon between 1969 and 1972. Lowdon said he wanted 'engineers talking to engineers, specialists talking to specialists.' Lowdon said the GM team via tech 'simulated' the Barcelona Grand Prix race as part of its preparation efforts. GM spokesman Mike Albano said in an email that 'we are not in a position to offer any interviews' about the automaker's F1 efforts. Lowdon, in his YouTube interview, described how GM is coordinating facilities in the U.K.. and U.S. "For the past year, we have worked hand in hand with GM to lay a robust foundation for an extraordinary Formula 1 entry,' Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsports, said in a March statement. GM will be the first new F1 team since 2016. GM has a partner, TWG Motorsports. Ferrari will supply engines for the Cadillac team in 2026. GM intends to make its own F1 engines by the end of the decade. For Detroit-based GM, F1 presents an opportunity to market its vehicles globally. F1 conducts races globally. F1 has also expanded its presence in the United States, with three races annually – in Miami, Austin, Texas, and Las Vegas. The GM F1 effort involves facilities in Silverstone, England; Indianapolis; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Warren, Michigan, outside of Detroit, the automaker said in a March statement.
