Former Rangers boss Gerrard is now the favourite to replace his fellow countryman at the Riverside Stadium, according to BetVictor, who offer the latest Football betting.
Gerrard is 6/4 to get the gig, with ex-Luton gaffer Rob Edwards a close second at 5/2. Other names on the bookies' list include Sean Dyche, Steve Cooper and Gary O'Neil.
Gerrard left Rangers in 2022 for Aston Villa, just over six months after winning the club's first Scottish Premiership title in a decade.
It didn't work out for the 45-year-old in Birmingham, though, and he soon moved out to Saudi Arabia to take charge of Al-Etiffaq.
He resigned from his post at the beginning of this year and has been out of work since.
Gerrard was linked with the vacant Rangers job before Russell Martin was appointed as the Ibrox club's new head coach last Thursday.
He opened up on the future of key duo Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande after taking the job: "We have to try and keep our best players," said Martin.
"And I think we're all really aligned with that.
"So, unless things come in that really help the club to build and move forward, I don't think it's a necessity to do that at all. That's my understanding of it.
"And we've all been really clear on it. So we'll just have to wait and see. But I'm looking forward to working with those guys."

Cyriel Dessers could be set for Rangers exit as ‘European club open transfer talks for striker'

RANGERS have received an official transfer approach from a European club for Cyriel Dessers, it's being claimed. The Nigerian hitman, 30, is set to weigh up his future at Ibrox following the arrival of new boss Russell Martin last week. 2 Cyriel Dessers playing for Nigeria at the end of last month Credit: Getty 2 Cyriel Dessers, Rangers Credit: Willie Vass Dessers scored 29 goals for Rangers last term but has still yet to win over Gers fans with his displays. And the striker could leave the club before the start of next season as at least one club is reportedly on his trail. Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos claims Rangers are in talks with AEK Athens over a potential deal for the striker. AEK have been long-time admirers of the striker who moved to Glasgow in the summer of 2023. We told you last month how the Light Blues were bracing themselves for bids for the striker who still has two years left on his contract. The Greek outfit could face serious competition for his signature, though, as several clubs were understood to be chasing him in January. His agent even suggested the striker had offers from TEN different teams during the winter window, but he decided to stay at Ibrox. Rangers spent around £4.5million to bring the hitman to Glasgow two years ago. Since then he's scored 51 goals for the club and was the Premiership's top scorer last season with 19 goals in the league. But he still manages to split the opinions of Rangers fans, which is something his former manager Philippe Clement believes is unfair. Rangers star Cyriel Dessers responds to questions on Philippe Clement's future as he empathises with raging fans Clement said: 'I think Cyriel gets abuse like nobody else in the club or on the pitch at least. 'But he always was there to work hard, to do everything for the club every day, every training, every game. 'Also, in his career, he never scored as many goals as he did at Rangers. 'In the end he performed really well with his qualities. 'I think he was top scorer at the end of the season. 'Of course fans always want more, but I think Cyriel, if he played in a team that won the league, then he would be for everybody a good player. 'But if you don't win the league then for the fans you are not a good player any more. 'That's life at Rangers.' Man Utd ‘make first Viktor Gyokeres approach as Ruben Amorim looks to beat Arsenal to huge £60m transfer'

MANCHESTER UNITED have made an initial approach for Viktor Gyokeres, according to reports. The striker scored 66 goals for Ruben Amorim when the pair worked together at Sporting. 2 2 In total, he boasts a staggering record of 97 goals in 102 appearances for the Portuguese giants. Gyokeres, 27, has an £84million release clause in his contract at the Estadio Jose Alvalade. However, Sky Sports News report United contacted Sporting to enquire about the Swedish international. But as revealed by SunSport, it is understood Gyokeres had a gentlemen's agreement with Sporting that he can leave for around £58-60m. And Amorim is desperate to be reunited with the striker - with his current No9s Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling for goals. United cannot offer any European football next season - let alone Champions League football. But Amorim will hope his personal connection can entice Gyokeres, who is also wanted by Arsenal. Amorim has already completed his £62.5m transfer from Wolves. And the Red Devils also remain keen on landing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. However, that deal has hit complications with Tottenham set to appoint Thomas Frank as their new manager.
