She's being called on the carpet for her tone-deaf look on the red carpet.
Hollywood sweetheart Sydney Sweeney is on the business end of social media's punishing yardstick amid claims she missed the mark on the 2025 Met Gala's culturally meaningful theme.

'Sydney Sweeney referencing Kim Novak, a white lady, for Superfine: Tailoring Black Style….ok?' scoffed a cyber faultfinder on X, blasting the 'White Lotus' star's nod to 1950s actress Kim Novak.
She's set to portray the silver screen veteran in 'Scandalous!,' a forthcoming film directed by Met Gala co-chair Colman Domingo. The biography will follow Novak's forbidden love affair with late '50s boulevardier Sammy Davis Jr. during Hollywood's Golden Age.
Before making her debut, Sweeney shared a snapshot of Novak on her Instagram story, hinting at her stylish inspiration for the evening, where the dress code was 'tailored for you.'
Upon arrival, the 'Euphoria' actress sashayed up the museum's staircase in a curve-clasping Miu Miu gown. The black, sparkling number featured a beaded fringe and a keyhole cutout that showcased her ample cleavage.

She looked exquisite from head to toe. But did she nail the night's celebration of black dandyism and designers? Some virtual vultures are shaking their heads no.
'Paying homage to a white lady when the theme is tailoring black style,' spat an outraged X user.
'Sydney Sweeney is not on the theme for the night at all. Nice gown, beautiful gowns, though,' ranted another.

'Actress Sydney Sweeney looks like she's going to a White House Correspondents Dinner and not the Met Gala based on Super Fine: Tailoring Black Style. #MetGala2025,' an underwhelmed onlooker wrote. 'I guess this is the 'safe' way to interpret the theme! Smh!.'
'Sydney Sweeney needs to explain how paying homage to a white woman is black dandyism.'
The beleaguered belle explained the curation of her attire to Vogue, telling red carpet correspondent La La Anthony: 'I always feel that [Miu Miu] just brings such beautiful stories to every dress. So this is actually paying homage to Kim Novak, and I'm doing a movie with Colman Domingo … so we wanted to really just bring that to life.'

Sydney Sweeney Does Old Hollywood Glamour in London
Sydney Sweeney has been on many a best-dressed list this year, with the star frequently offering a modern take on bombshell glamour. But at the Echo Valley premiere in London, she went into full fairytale mode, swapping her signature style for something a little more romantic and decidedly Old Hollywood. Her latest film sees her star opposite Julianne Moore as a troubled mother-daughter duo in a gritty psychological thriller—but there's nothing method about her promo wardrobe, styled by super stylist Molly Dickson. On the red carpet, she wore an aquamarine halterneck gown by Miu Miu, featuring a keyhole cut-out at the bust and a sweeping train. The look marks another chapter in the actor's longstanding relationship with Miu Miu. Earlier this year, she wore a glittering gown by the Italian brand to the Met Gala, inspired by old Hollywood icon Kim Novak (whom she is playing in a forthcoming film). Meanwhile, for the Echo Valley afterparty, she slipped into yet another Miu Miu number, this time a sugary pink satin dress, featuring an embellished bodice.
