GMA Network, TAPE lawyers meet in mediation conference

GMA Network29-05-2025
Lawyers of GMA Network and Television and Production Exponents (TAPE) Inc. appeared in a mediation conference on Thursday to discuss the possibility of reaching a settlement in relation to the estafa complaint that GMA filed against TAPE.
According to Mariz Umali's report on '24 Oras' Thursday, the mediation conference was held at the Office of the City Prosecutor of Quezon City
'We want to collect the amount that was misappropriated. The amount that should have been given to GMA but was not remitted by the officers of TAPE. We have been waiting for the remittance of the ad revenues. Unfortunately, despite repeated demands, hindi nabigay sa atin 'yon,' GMA Network's legal counsel Atty. Lynn Delfin said.
TAPE Inc. did not deny its obligations to GMA Network.
'I think TAPE naman is not denying that there's collectibles to the corporation. Maybe the main contention only is whether it's civil or criminal,' TAPE Inc.'s legal counsel Atty. Maggie Garduque said.
The prosecutor's office has set another mediation conference on June 11 to determine if GMA Network will accept TAPE Inc.'s offer.
'We have been saying din naman that management is open to listen and to see what offer they have. And if it's reasonable, we can decide on what to do about it,' Atty. Delfin said.
'Under the rules, 'yung mediation kasi is also dependent on the complainant if they are willing or open for settlement. So, in this particular case kasi maganda na nalaman natin on the part of GMA that they are open for settlement,' Atty. Garduque said.
Should the mediation fail on June 11, the preliminary investigation of the case will proceed, and the merits of the case will be discussed in court.
GMA Network, Inc. had filed a criminal complaint for estafa with abuse of confidence against officers of TAPE Inc. for the misappropriation of funds totaling P37,941,352.56.
The complaint stems from the respondents' failure to remit advertising revenues collected from clients, which had been contractually assigned to GMA Network under a 2023 Assignment Agreement. Despite multiple formal demands, the funds were not transferred to GMA because they were instead used for TAPE's operational expenses, in violation of the trust arrangement outlined in the agreement.

The Philippines' Comedy Queen sold ube pandesal, cheese rolls, cindesal or cinnamon pandesal, milk pandesal, and egg pies—all of which were sold out before 11 a.m. AiAi told GMA News Online that it was her first time ever participating in a food fair as they run their business online. 'Very successful and I hope na maulit 'yung fair. Sasali ulit kami,' she said. 'God is so good and thank you so much. Kung alam lang namin na marami kaming [benta], actually, madami na nga kaming pinrepare eh. Nasa 600, 700, so next time, magdadagdag kami ng manpower if may fair,' AiAi added. AiAi also shared that she chose to make and sell pastries because it is her specialty. 'Dun ako magaling gumawa. Tsaka kasi 'yun 'yung inaral namin.' In 2021, AiAi graduated from Treston International College's Academy of Pastry and Culinary Arts, where she completed a short course in Pastry and Bakery Arts. —JCB, GMA Integrated News

Drunk Quezon cop who fired gun, threatened neighbors faces multiple charges

A police officer has undergone inquest proceedings for various complaints after he allegedly fired a gun and terrorized his neighbors in Lucena, Quezon Province last Saturday. According to Mariz Umali's report in '24 Oras' on Monday, investigation showed that the suspect, identified as Patrolman Rodolfo Avila Madlang-awa, was drunk while buying ice from a sari-sari store. But he suddenly threatened and pointed a gun at the customers after him. Madlang-awa, a cop based in the town of Lopez, can be seen in CCTV footage threatening someone inside the store: 'Patayin kaya kita?' (Do you want me to kill you?) His sibling turned him over to the police following the incident and is now detained at the Lucena Custodial Facility. 'Nalasing, hindi kayang kontrolin yung sarili niya. This is really unforgivable, sabi ng ating Chief PNP, at yung mga ganitong klaseng pulis ay hindi dapat tumagal sa serbisyo po,' said PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier Gen. Jean Fajardo. (He got drunk and was not able to control himself. This is really unforgivable as said by our Chief PNP, and this kind of policeman should no longer stay in service.) Madlang-awa is facing complaints of grave threats, unjust vexation, slight physical injury, illegal discharge of firearms, and alarms and scandal, according to Lucena City Police chief Lt. Col. Dennis De Guzman. He has been disarmed and will also face administrative charges, the report added. 'Ang gusto ng ating Chief PNP ay i-subject po siya sa summary dismissal proceeding para mas mabilis yung gagawin pag-dismiss sa kanya sa serbisyo,' said Fajardo. (Our Chief PNP wants to subject him to summary dismissal proceeding to hasten his dismissal from the service.) Madlang-awa declined to give a comment on the matter. Meanwhile, GMA Integrated News is trying to reach out to the complainants. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
