Drogheda & District AC's final haul was 33 individual medals along with five gold and two bronze medals in the relays.
Junior athlete and Leaving Cert student Louis O'Shea is new to athletics as this is his first full year of training and competing, and at the North Leinster Schools Senior Boys 400m he finished second in 50.6sec (hand-timed).
Louis gained automatic qualification for the Leinster finals in Tullamore where he finished seventh with a time of 51.44sec on a very blustery day, and that run suggests that there is plenty more to come from this young man.
Outstanding individual performances at the Louth Championships came from the Cunningham sisters Beatrice and Hannah.
In the Girls U14 1500m Hannah finished second, running a super time of 5:10.8, while Beatrice also finished second in the U15 1500m in another great time of 5:04.89 and picked up another silver medal in the 800m with a time of 2:22.6.
These were remarkable performances from these very young girls, propelling them both into the top 10 in the current Louth senior ranking list.
The outstanding performances in the relays came from the Girls U11 team of Laura Clarke, Lucy Cooney, Eabha Flynn and Aine McHugh. This team had two magnificent runs when becoming Louth champions and going on to finish seventh in the Leinster final.
The U15 team - comprising Bonnie Breach, Eve Russell, Emily Cooney and Dani Nolan- finished a striking sixth in the Leinster final.
In the field events Drogheda & District AC have a lot of new talent emerging and at the Pre Louths Euan Kirwan finished third in the Boys U14 shot put, while in the Girls U12 turbo javelin Lucy Russell came second and Nancy Clerkin third.
At the Louth Championships Nancy Clerkin continued her fine early season form when finishing second in the U12 Girls shot putt.
In the U14 javelin for boys Cillian Russell placed second, and in the U13 Girls event Isabella Ojo St Paul came third.
In the U15 high jump for girls there was gold medal joy for Dani Nolan, while Cormac Russell scooped third in the U19 Boys category.
Two long jumpers from the club picked up bronze medals, Sam McGinn (U15) and Cormac Russell (U19).
Turning to the 1500m, Aine Carroll had a very good run to win the U17 Girls race in a new personal best, and over the same distance Niamh Carroll was third in the U19 race and Eleanor McMahon (U15) placed sixth.
There was more medal success in the 600m races as Eve Cunningham (U11) came second and Dearbhla Johnston placed third in the U12 event, with two other U12s - Yasman Nuri and Cian Bolton - just missing out when placing fourth.
There were second places for two of Drogheda & District's 100m sprinters, Michael Iloduba (Boys U16) and Ruby Berrill (Girls U17), with Bonnie Breach third in the Girls U15 race.

Aaron Hanlon leads the charge for Drogheda & District AC with Monaghan race victory

Aaron Hanlon put in a stunning performance to win the 10-mile race outright, crossing the line in a blistering time of 51:08. There was more success in the category placings too, with Brian Martin finishing in a superb sixth overall and first in his category in 55:07, while Shane Larkin took first in his category in the five-mile race, finishing fourth overall in a time of 30:25. Mike Staunton also completed the 10-mile race, coming home in 1:25:13, helping to round out a strong showing from the club. The races, organised by Monaghan Town Runners AC, started and finished in Church Square and followed scenic, undulating out-and-back routes through the rolling hills of County Monaghan. A little closer to home, the Rathkenny 5K took place on the on country roads around Tankardtown House and Rathkenny last Saturday evening and there were fine runs from Alan Foley (21:08), Andrea McArdle (22:45) Liam Farrell (24:04) and Sharon Leslie who was completing her second 5k of the day after running in the Laytown parkrun (29:52). Shane Larkin had a season's best at the Rossin Rovers 5K Heritage run on Sunday afternoon. The picturesque route takes participants by the entrance to Newgrange Passage Tomb and the so-called 'pocket rocket' has been motoring well all year and he finished first in his category. Members of Drogheda & District AC also enjoyed a glorious day of running at the St Cocas AC Kilcock 10-Mile Road Race, held on Sunday. Under bright sunshine and blue skies, the race offered a scenic and challenging course, taking in the leafy banks of the Royal Canal in County Kildare. The club was well represented, with Shaun Conroy leading the charge in superb form, finishing in a strong 1:06:51 to top the results for Drogheda & District AC. David Murray followed closely behind with a time of 1:07:10, while John Cooper, always a solid performer, crossed the line in 1:08:24, showing good form but acknowledging there's room for improvement. In the women's race, Anna Isgro impressed with 1:12:30, showing strong endurance and consistency. She was followed by Eimear Knowles (1:14:20), Carmel Keenan (1:18:16) and Yvonne McMahon (1:18:59), all running well over the 10-mile distance. Roisin McGeough (1:19:41) and Barbara Lowth Byrne (1:25:35) added further strength to the club's female contingent, while Olivia Reilly (1:27:35) and Aisling Reilly (1:47:52) rounded off the team's efforts with determination and team spirit.

Spot-on Drogheda United add to Derry City's cup torment with dramatic Brandywell win

(after extra time, Drogs won 3-0 on pens) Drogheda United's love affair with the Sports Direct FAI Cup will last for at least a little while longer thanks to the defending champions' dramatic penalty shootout win over old foes Derry City at The Brandywell late on Saturday night. The Boynesiders led for two-thirds of this enthralling contest but then conceded to a superb strike by Michael Duffy and had to dig deep in the latter stages and in extra time. But having survived a few anxious moments, including a disallowed goal in the 114th minute, Kevin Doherty's men regrouped and sent last year's beaten finalists packing again - this time on spot kicks. The Drogs caught Derry cold by scoring inside two minutes. Having sent all their big men forward for a free kick, Shane Farrell instead played the ball down the left channel for Josh Thomas who ghosted past Adam O'Reilly and crossed to the near post for Andrew Quinn who repeated his 2024 final heroics by scoring with a neat near-post finish. Derry were all at sea in the early stages and nearly conceded again in the fifth minute when Thomas ran onto a Warren Davis head-flick and burst away from half-way, only to slice well wide. Davis then intercepted a poor pass by Mark Connolly and linked up with Farrell and Darragh Markey whose goal attempt flashed just the wrong side of the upright. Derry improved after that and Gavin Whyte tested Luke Dennison from distance before Dipo Akinyemi hit a good strike with minimal backlift that the keeper had to tip over the bar. Farrell and James Bolger made important blocks as The Candystripes continued to hold the upper hand, but Drogheda looked dangerous on the break and on the stroke of half-time a goal-bound Markey effort struck Connolly in a crowded penalty area. Doherty's side bossed the early stages of the second period, with the feet-footed Thomas causing all sorts of problems for the home defence, but next to have a shot on goal was Conor Keeley whose effort was pushed round the post by Derry netminder Brian Maher. Home boss Tiernan Lynch responded with a quadruple change just before the hour mark and instantly Derry were transformed. Dennison fumbled a Ronan Boyce effort before a defender scrambled the loose ball clear, Akinyemi was denied by Keeley as he lined up a shot and Dennison turned a stinging Liam Boyce effort around the post. ADVERTISEMENT Learn more Drogheda almost doubled their lead in the 69th minute when Markey floated in a free kick towards Ryan Brennan whose firm header was superbly pushed away by Maher. Quinn was next to be denied by the keeper from a hooked effort, but seconds after that chance the ball was in the net at the other end. The fact that Brennan was lying injured near the half-way line was undoubtedly a factor as play continued down the right flank and Danny Mullen squared the ball to Duffy who took one touch before arrowing a powerful shot into the top corner for 1-1. Drogheda did have a couple of chances to restore their lead - a poor touch by sub Thomas Oluwa denied him a shooting opportunity and Markey was just off target with a 20-yard effort - but Derry looked the more like to score as Liam Boyce (twice) and Duffy both missed the target and Mullen had another effort deflected wide. Dennison came up with more heroics in extra time, saving from Mullen, Adam O'Reilly and notably Ronan Boyce whose close-range header seemed certain to go in, while sub John O'Sullivan wasted Drogheda's best chance with a sliced shot. In a chaotic finish a Connolly goal was chalked off for a foul on Dennison and Duffy had claims for a penalty waved away, with Ben Doherty talking his way into a straight red card for his protests. Ultimately, though, it came down to spot kicks and Dennison saved from both Jamie Stoff and Mullen either side of Adam Frizzell's effort which rose over the bar. Keeley and Oluwa scored their kicks and so when Owen Lambe converted his kick past Maher the celebrations in the away end could begin.
