Cyberfraud arrested in Katihar for Rs56L scam

Motihari: A notorious cybercriminal from Katihar was arrested on Saturday night by Motihari cyber police for allegedly defrauding a retired agriculture department employee of Rs 56 lakh. The accused, a BTech graduate, had been evading arrest despite facing over 21 cyberfraud cases in eight states. Motihari SP Swarn Prabhat said the accused posed as a CBI officer and threatened the elderly victim and his wife during a video call that showed a fake CBI office. They were accused of treason and threatened with death, forcing them to transfer large sums of money across multiple accounts in Feb 2025. The scam came to light after the victim, Dilip Kumar, lodged an FIR. A technical investigation traced the funds to the account of Katihar resident Akash Mukherjee. A police team raided his house in Katihar and arrested him. Officials said Mukherjee turned to online fraud after failing to secure a job. He later joined a cybercrime gang operating from West Bengal and opened a hardware shop to conceal his activities. Motihari police said they are using technology to track down cybercriminals and recently busted a transnational gang operating from Pakistan and Nepal. Thumba police arrest key links of drug racket with MDMA during hotel raid

Thiruvananthapuram: Thumba police arrested two individuals, who were identified as key links of a drug racket, with MDMA during a raid at a hotel in Attipra on Sunday. Police identified the arrested individuals as Ananthu, 29, of Panayil Veedu at Pangappara and Arya, 27, of Anjima Bhavan at Chadayamangalam.
