Tavengwa Mukuhlani Appointed ACA Chairman, Promises New Era For African Cricket
Tavengwa Mukuhlani is the new chairman of the Africa Cricket Association. He plans to improve governance and transparency, with initiatives like the Africa T20 competition.
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani has been unanimously appointed as the chairman of the Africa Cricket Association (ACA), following his interim role since November 2023.
His appointment was confirmed at the ACA's annual general meeting in Singapore on Friday, where all 23 member associations endorsed his leadership.
Mukuhlani's confirmation comes at a crucial time for African cricket, which is undergoing structural reform. The ACA has recently adopted a new memorandum of incorporation aimed at enhancing governance and transparency across the continent.
'We stand today at the threshold of a new era for African cricket – an era defined by stronger governance, broader opportunity and renewed ambition," Mukuhlani said in a statement issued by Zimbabwe Cricket. 'Let us continue building on the progress we have made, united by a common purpose and driven by a shared love for the game."
Among the key initiatives on the ACA's agenda are the long-awaited launch of a continent-wide Africa T20 competition, the revival of the Afro-Asia Cup, and the integration of cricket into the 2027 Africa Games in Egypt. Cricket made its debut at the Africa Games in 2023 in Ghana, where Zimbabwe won both the men's and women's events. South Africa had sent experimental squads, while Zimbabwe fielded an emerging men's team.
An experienced administrator, Mukuhlani has led Zimbabwe Cricket since 2015, securing re-election three times. Under his leadership, ZC has reduced its debt, recovered from an ICC suspension over government interference, and secured a place for the women's team in the ICC's Future Tours Programme.

Hesson almost veered into explaining how 'such wickets' were not helpful for Bangladesh cricket's development either, before reeling himself back. 'In the BPL, good wickets are usually prepared here. But in international matches, Bangladesh keeps producing these slow and low surfaces to gain a home advantage. That's not right," he stated, before adding, 'I haven't come here to fix Bangladesh cricket—that's not my job. But when we talk about the global standard of the game, such wickets are not the way forward." It's not just the visiting teams, though. In 2021, after Bangladesh hosted New Zealand and Australia on such tracks and found success, some batters had complained about the pitch. Home skipper Litton Das had also brought up the subject on the eve of this T20I, saying: 'I also agree. (After playing the 2021 New Zealand-Australia series) the careers of many cricketers have gone down as batters. If I were a bowler, maybe my career would have been rich." ICC confirm England as host for WTC Finals in 2027, 2029, and 2031
The ICC have made a significant decision regarding the WTC finals and disseminated it following the conclusion of its Annual General Meeting in Singapore on Sunday. read more The International Cricket Council (ICC) made several key decisions in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Singapore on Sunday. One among them is that the body has awarded England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) the hosting rights for the next three editions of the World Test Championship (WTC) finals. Therefore, the WTC finals of 2027, 2029, and 2031 will be held in England. The ICC justified handing ECB hosting rights for the next three WTC finals by citing England's successful track record in hosting the event. Notably, all three WTC finals held so far have taken place in England. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Challenging ECB's monopoly over the event, BCCI pushed its candidature in front of the ICC to host the WTC final but the body remained unbudged with its earlier stance. It was previously said, England gets to host the finals because of its weather conditions in July. New associates join ICC The ICC also announced the addition of the Timor-Leste Cricket Federation and the Zambia Cricket Union as associate members of the body, bringing the total count to 110. More time for USA cricket The ICC further stalled a decision on the future of USA cricket, which is enduring administrative issues and had been asked earlier to clean the house. 'ICC reiterated its previous position and confirmed that the organisation remains on notice. USA Cricket is required to undertake comprehensive governance reforms, including but not limited to completing free and fair elections within a three-month period. The Board, however, reserves the right to take such actions as it deems appropriate.' The situation is extra grave because the USA will help host and participate in the 2028 Olympics.
