Tavengwa Mukuhlani is the new chairman of the Africa Cricket Association. He plans to improve governance and transparency, with initiatives like the Africa T20 competition.
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani has been unanimously appointed as the chairman of the Africa Cricket Association (ACA), following his interim role since November 2023.
His appointment was confirmed at the ACA's annual general meeting in Singapore on Friday, where all 23 member associations endorsed his leadership.
Mukuhlani's confirmation comes at a crucial time for African cricket, which is undergoing structural reform. The ACA has recently adopted a new memorandum of incorporation aimed at enhancing governance and transparency across the continent.
'We stand today at the threshold of a new era for African cricket – an era defined by stronger governance, broader opportunity and renewed ambition," Mukuhlani said in a statement issued by Zimbabwe Cricket. 'Let us continue building on the progress we have made, united by a common purpose and driven by a shared love for the game."
Among the key initiatives on the ACA's agenda are the long-awaited launch of a continent-wide Africa T20 competition, the revival of the Afro-Asia Cup, and the integration of cricket into the 2027 Africa Games in Egypt. Cricket made its debut at the Africa Games in 2023 in Ghana, where Zimbabwe won both the men's and women's events. South Africa had sent experimental squads, while Zimbabwe fielded an emerging men's team.
An experienced administrator, Mukuhlani has led Zimbabwe Cricket since 2015, securing re-election three times. Under his leadership, ZC has reduced its debt, recovered from an ICC suspension over government interference, and secured a place for the women's team in the ICC's Future Tours Programme.

PAK Coach Mike Hesson Fumes Over Mirpur Pitch: 'Not Of International Standard'

Pakistan's new coach Mike Hesson criticized the Mirpur pitch after a seven-wicket loss to Bangladesh, calling it below international standards. The slow and low track of Mirpur felt Pakistan's new white-ball coach Mike Hesson's fury on Sunday. The New Zealander said after his side's huge, seven-wicket defeat that the pitch wasn't of 'international standard' and that though it might help 'Bangladesh find success', it wasn't 'right' to present such wickets to visiting teams. Pakistan were bowled out for just 110, their lowest ever total in T20Is. Fakhar Zaman top-scored with 44, but no other visiting batter could even cross half of that as pacers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman ran riot with five wickets. In reply, Parvez Hossain Emo's half-century and Towhid Hridoy's patient 36 saw Bangladesh chase it in just 15.3 overs, one of their best wins statistically over the Asian rivals. 'This type of wicket is not of international standard," an angry Hesson said in the post-match press conference. Playing on such pitches won't help you improve. You have the Asia Cup ahead, and playing on surfaces like this won't help you succeed on the big stage. Bangladesh may find success on these kinds of pitches, but this is by no means an ideal wicket," he remarked. Hesson almost veered into explaining how 'such wickets' were not helpful for Bangladesh cricket's development either, before reeling himself back. 'In the BPL, good wickets are usually prepared here. But in international matches, Bangladesh keeps producing these slow and low surfaces to gain a home advantage. That's not right," he stated, before adding, 'I haven't come here to fix Bangladesh cricket—that's not my job. But when we talk about the global standard of the game, such wickets are not the way forward." It's not just the visiting teams, though. In 2021, after Bangladesh hosted New Zealand and Australia on such tracks and found success, some batters had complained about the pitch. Home skipper Litton Das had also brought up the subject on the eve of this T20I, saying: 'I also agree. (After playing the 2021 New Zealand-Australia series) the careers of many cricketers have gone down as batters. If I were a bowler, maybe my career would have been rich." Bangladesh now lead the series 1-0, with the second match on Tuesday, July 22, at the same venue. view comments First Published: July 20, 2025, 23:05 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. History Made! Australia Fends Off Japan To Clinch First FIBA Women's Asia Cup Title

Japan, six-time champions of the continental tournament, mounted a determined comeback in the fourth quarter. Power forward Yuki Miyazawa spearheaded the rally, knocking down three consecutive three-pointers to tie the game with seven minutes remaining. However, missed opportunities—including two missed free throws—proved costly for Japan. Clutch baskets from Australia's Alexandra Fowler and Alex Brooke Wilson helped the Opals regain control as time slipped away for their opponents. Historic Triumph for the Opals Ranked second in the world by FIBA, Australia erupted in celebration at the final buzzer, finally putting an end to their Asia Cup title drought. Fowler, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, led her team with 15 points. Wilson added 14 points, while point guard Stephanie Reid contributed 13 in the championship win. Despite the loss, Japan's teenage phenom Kokoro Tanaka impressed once again. The 19-year-old, who scored 27 points in Japan's semi-final win over host nation China, finished the final with 21 points and nine assists, capping a breakout tournament. ICC confirm England as host for WTC Finals in 2027, 2029, and 2031

The ICC have made a significant decision regarding the WTC finals and disseminated it following the conclusion of its Annual General Meeting in Singapore on Sunday. read more The International Cricket Council (ICC) made several key decisions in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Singapore on Sunday. One among them is that the body has awarded England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) the hosting rights for the next three editions of the World Test Championship (WTC) finals. Therefore, the WTC finals of 2027, 2029, and 2031 will be held in England. The ICC justified handing ECB hosting rights for the next three WTC finals by citing England's successful track record in hosting the event. Notably, all three WTC finals held so far have taken place in England. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Challenging ECB's monopoly over the event, BCCI pushed its candidature in front of the ICC to host the WTC final but the body remained unbudged with its earlier stance. It was previously said, England gets to host the finals because of its weather conditions in July. New associates join ICC The ICC also announced the addition of the Timor-Leste Cricket Federation and the Zambia Cricket Union as associate members of the body, bringing the total count to 110. Also Read | Pakistan board's Mohsin Naqvi accused of trying to 'assert unnecessary pressure' on BCCI over Asia Cup The ICC also gave an update on the exiled Afghan Women's cricket team, which is being supported by three prominent boards after it faced a ban from the Taliban after they came to power in the country. 'This initiative is being advanced through a collaborative effort led by the ICC, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and Cricket Australia (CA), under the supervision of ICC Deputy Chair Mr Imran Khwaja. The programme aims to deliver structured support through high-performance initiatives, domestic playing opportunities, and engagement at key ICC global events, including the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 in India and the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 in England,' the ICC said. More time for USA cricket The ICC further stalled a decision on the future of USA cricket, which is enduring administrative issues and had been asked earlier to clean the house. 'ICC reiterated its previous position and confirmed that the organisation remains on notice. USA Cricket is required to undertake comprehensive governance reforms, including but not limited to completing free and fair elections within a three-month period. The Board, however, reserves the right to take such actions as it deems appropriate.' The situation is extra grave because the USA will help host and participate in the 2028 Olympics.
