The UAE Team set to compete in the 2025 Pan Arab Junior & Ladies Championship—scheduled to take place from Wednesday 7th to Saturday 10th May 2025—has officially been announced by the Egyptian Golf Federation. The event will be co-hosted by Madinaty Golf Club and Katameya Dunes Golf Club in Cairo.
Twelve Arab nations and regional Golf Federations have confirmed participation, fielding both teams and individual players. The competing countries include:
Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and host nation Egypt.
Sanctioned by the Arab Golf Federation (AGF) and organized locally by the Egyptian Golf Federation, the Pan Arab Championships will feature several Divisions: Ladies, Boys Under-18, Boys Under-16, and Girls Under-16. These categories will be contested over 54 holes and are recognized as World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) qualifying events, supported by The R&A, with ranking points up for grabs.
Meanwhile, the Boys and Girls Under-13 Divisions will be played over 36 holes on Thursday and Friday.
A spokesperson for the Egyptian Golf Federation commented, ' We are grateful for the support of the Emirates Golf Federation for this significant tournament on the regional calendar. We will have over 105 players competing from all the participating Arab countries in the various Divisions. The UAE always brings a strong team and we look forward to welcoming them to Cairo.'
Final practice rounds at Katameya Dunes and Madinaty Golf Club will be held on Wednesday 7th May 2025, with the Opening Ceremony set for 5 pm on the Clubhouse Terrace at Madinaty Golf Club in Cairo.
At last year's Championship in Tunisia, the UAE claimed Gold in the Girls Under-16 Division, while the Ladies' Team secured Silver behind champions Team Morocco.
Sara Abubaker, part of the Gold-winning Under-16 squad in 2024, has now advanced to the UAE Ladies Team.
Intissar Rich is the only returning member from last year's Silver Medal-winning Ladies' Team and will once again compete in next month's Championship.
The UAE Boys Under-18 Team earned Silver last year, and the Under-16 Boys team finished sixth.
The Emirates Golf Federation has named a nine-player squad to represent the UAE across the various Divisions, along with a three-member support team:

Abdulla Kalbat
Boys Under-16
Abdallah Saleem

Victor Nunes and Muhidin Abubakar face off for UAE Warriors interim flyweight crown

After five years of waiting, Victor Nunes finally has the opportunity to win an MMA belt when he takes on Somali British fighter Muhidin Abubakar in the interim flyweight championship at the UAE Warriors 60 this weekend. The Abu Dhabi promotion is staging their second back-to-back fight cards with Arabia versus Africa on Thursday and the international card on Friday, both at the Space 42 Arena in Abu Dhabi. Nunes, 33 and who has lived in Abu Dhabi for the past seven years, arrives on the back of a 6-1 (win/loss) record in the promotion and 11-5 overall tally. The Brazilian won his last three fights quite impressively, with a unanimous decision over Aaron Aby of Wales followed by two first round stoppages of Jordanian Nawras Abzakh and Genil Francisco of the Philippines. 'I'm very happy for this moment which I have been waiting for the last five years – to fight for a title in front of my family, friends and colleagues,' Nunes told The National at the pre-fight media day on Wednesday. 'I had a great camp for this fight and I'm more than ready to get this belt. Abu Dhabi is one of the best places to train and have a pre-fight camp in the best facilities and with so many of my colleagues around.' With the title at stake, Nunes is confident ahead of the biggest fight night of his career. 'I have never been in a title fight, but I have been working hard to get there, and now that I have earned it, there's no stopping me from going on to get the belt,' he said. 'I don't know how tough my opponent is going to be. I can only know when I actually take him on. He has fought in many promotions and in different countries, but I have been working in all areas and more than ready for a win on the night.' His opponent Abubakar's debut in Abu Dhabi ended in defeat to South African Luthando Biko back in September 2023. That was his only loss, and he's since bounced back with six straight wins. The last two were in the UAE Warriors – a unanimous decision over South African Gift Walker and Chilean Alfredo Muaiad in round one. Abubakar's overall record of 9-1 looks pretty good and the 26-year-old is equally confident of walking away with the interim championship. 'For me, it's another fight and another opponent. My preparations have been like any other, but I feel at the top of my game for a championship contest,' he said. 'I have proved that in my last two visits to Abu Dhabi. Obviously, I have earned this moment and I'm ready and confident to achieve what I have been working for.' Aside from the main card, another interesting contest is the co-main event between Brazilian Vinicius Moreira and Canadian Tanner Boser in the 265lbs division that also includes ten other contests. The interim title belt is a new addition to the promotion after existing belt holders moved on to bigger international events and institutions. 'The UFC is the biggest. They stand at the helm of the MMA world, and we have lost a few fighters to them,' Fouad Darwish, chief executive of Palms Sports, said. 'But I don't consider this loss. They have moved and we are very cognizant of where we stand. I'm not saying we compete with them. 'On the contrary, we like to be the funnel that sends fighters to them. It gives me pride and pleasure that many of our fighters are going there. So, we have lost people with titles. 'It was difficult for us to continue seeing titles being lost for those who would come and fight with us one or two fights and they leave. So, we had to create something that would create more time and give a twist for getting an undisputed belt.' The action begins with the 13-fight Arabia versus Africa card, highlighted by the bantamweight contest between Abdul Hussein and Sami Yahia and the co-main fight of Islem Masraf and Diego Bandu.

French Open: Defending champion Alcaraz cruises into last four

Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz glided into the semifinals of Roland Garros on Tuesday, blowing away American 12th seed Tommy Paul for the loss of just five games in the night session on Court Philippe Chatrier. The Spaniard needed just one hour 34 minutes to dismantle former world number nine Paul 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 and set up a last-four meeting with Italy's Lorenzo Musetti. Musetti, seeded eighth, earlier beat Paul's compatriot and 15th seed Frances Tiafoe in four sets. It will be the third time Alcaraz and Musetti meet this clay-court season. Alcaraz has dominated that series, beating the Italian in the final in Monte Carlo before also stopping him in the last four on his way to the Rome title. And the 22-year-old's blistering performance under the lights on centre court in Paris will have many backing him to make it three from three against Musetti as he seeks to defend his title. "It was, I could close my eyes and everything went in, my feeling today was amazing. Today was one of those matches where everything went in, I'm just pleased with everything," said Alcaraz. Alcaraz fired 40 winners on his way to victory over Paul for just 22 unforced errors as he emphatically put inconsistent displays in the previous rounds behind him. "This kind of match is never easy," he said. "I've played Tommy many times and he's beat me twice." Despite previous success against Alcaraz, it took the 28-year-old American eight games to get on the scoreboard as his opponent raced out of the blocks, mixing powerful groundstrokes with perfectly-weighted drop-shots and lobs. Paul put up determined resistance in the third set but couldn't deny Alcaraz, who broke in the ninth game before holding to love for victory. "I know you wanted to watch more tennis," an apologetic Alcaraz told the crowd on centre court. "I have to say sorry for that. But I had to do my work." Paul has now lost his last four meetings with Alcaraz, including at the same venue last year in the last eight of the Olympic Games.

Faisal bin Humaid Al Qasimi to run for ACF new term's presidency

He added that his decision to run again is in response to calls from several Arab national federation heads, who have asked for his ongoing leadership to complete the development of strategic programs and protect the sport's valuable legacy and progress on both the Arab and global levels. He also stated that the upcoming term will be his penultimate in his athletic career, expressing optimism that the work made thus far will assist in building on historic achievements while designing efforts linked with global improvements to create a strong route for future generations. Al-Qasimi emphasised that the Arab Cycling Federation has made important international accomplishments, most notably when the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) recognised Arab championships in 2018 and added them to the world schedule. This has helped Arab cyclists to qualify for the Olympics and World Championships. He also mentioned the introduction of Arab women's cycling championships, the expansion of road, track, mountain, and para-cycling events, the formation of the Arab Cycling Centre as a technical training hub, and the creation of the "Arab Cycling City" award.
