Andhra Pradesh govt cancels two Adani projects at company's request
In a government order, Chief Secretary K Vijayanand noted that AGEL wrote to the government to cancel these projects due to boundary disputes between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, which it termed 'local issues'.
'The government, after detailed examination of the proposal of AGEL in consultation with various stakeholders, has further issued orders for the cancellation of 1,200 MW Kurukutti and 1,000 MW Karrivalasa Pumped Hydro Storage Power Projects in Parvathipuram Manyam district allotted to AGEL,' Vijayanand said.
AGEL received permission to set up these two projects during the previous YSRCP government on June 29, 2022.
The feasibility reports for these projects were prepared by the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (NREDCAP) with TCE Ltd. At the same time, AGEL took on the responsibility of conducting surveys and investigations, as well as preparing a detailed project report (DPR).
On September 12, 2024, AGEL requested the cancellation of these two projects due to a boundary dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, and requested a refund of the facilitation charges paid by the company or an adjustment of those funds towards the allotment fee due for the 1,000 MW Pedakota and 600 MW Raiwada PSP projects.
The Pedakota and Raiwada projects were also allotted to AGEL.
Difficulties in conducting survey
Vijayanand said that on May 15, 2025, AGEL again requested the cancellation of the Kurukutti and Karrivalasa PSP projects through a letter.
Taking into consideration the difficulties in conducting surveys and investigations due to border disputes, the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of NREDCAP, M Kamalakara Babu, requested the government to consider the cancellation of the Kurukutti and Karrivalasa PSP projects as 'there is no fault on the part of the developer', AGEL, said Vijayanand.
Furthermore, Babu also requested approval to adjust the fee paid for these projects — after deducting the expenses incurred for conducting the survey and investigations by NREDCAP — against facilitation fees and DPR expenses, after adjusting for taxes payable, in respect of the 1,000 MW Pedakota PSP and 600 MW Raiwada PSP projects.
AGEL's cancellation proposal was placed before the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) meeting held on July 17, and it had agreed to cancel the Kurukutti and Karrivalasa projects due to local issues, as per the request of the developer, added Vijayanand.

Amaravati: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday expressed confidence that the Zero Poverty (P4) initiative taken up by the state government would achieve its goal by 2029, marking the first significant step towards poverty eradication. He stated that Andhra Pradesh's P4 programme was poised to become a national model. During a video conference with MLAs, people's representatives, and officials from the Secretariat, the Chief Minister reviewed the P4 programme. It was decided that the initiative would be officially implemented from August 19. The review meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Vijay Anand, Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav, P4 Foundation Vice Chairman Kutumb Rao, and other senior officials. The state government launched the P4 initiative on Ugadi, the Telugu New Year Day, on March 30. P4 stands for public-private-people partnership, wherein well-off individuals willing to contribute are called 'Margadarsies' (mentors), while the underprivileged beneficiaries are known as 'Bangaru Kutumbams (golden families). During the review on Tuesday, the Chief Minister highlighted that the P4 programme was aimed at improving the quality of life for 'Bangaaru Kutumbams'. "The primary objective is for people to give back to society," he said. He praised Pallekunta Hemalatha, a sanitation worker from Avanigadda, who became a 'Margadarshi' by helping an elderly woman. "If there is a responsive heart, people will come forward with humanity to help the poor," the Chief Minister stated. "Those who offer help, not just money, are also 'Margadarshis'. What these families need is emotional bonding and a helping hand. While organisations like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Vedanta work with CSR funds, P4 aims at going beyond that with the sole purpose of supporting families. We are implementing the Zero Poverty Mission with the people as our greatest asset." The Chief Minister clarified that the selection of Margadarshis is purely voluntary. "There should be no coercion or opposition. Those with zeal to help others, will join this initiative," he said, warning against attempts by some 'demonic" individuals to create negative public sentiment. "Some people have the financial resources but lack the heart to help, while others have the heart but lack the time. Identify such people and inform them about the P4 platform," he urged. The goal is to reduce economic inequalities, which are detrimental to society, he added. He added that today's beneficiaries could become tomorrow's mentors. "P4 provides additional support to 'Bangaaru Kutumbams' on top of government welfare schemes. Reach out to NRIs and industrialists abroad to inspire them," he suggested. So far, 937,913 'Bangaaru Kutumbams' have been identified, and 103,938 Margadarshis have registered. The needs of 1 million 'Bangaaru Kutumbams' across the state have been prioritised and analysed using an AI-based system. The findings reveal that 31 per cent require employment opportunities, 22 per cent need medical assistance, and 9 per cent seek support for small businesses, he explained. The initiative also includes a 'Fund a Need' feature. The programme's implementation will be reviewed every three months.

No coercion in P4, CS tells collectors
Vijayawada: Chief secretary K Vijayanand has instructed District Collectors to exercise extreme caution in identifying 'Margadarshulu' (mentors) for the 'Swarnandhra P4' programme, ensuring the process is free from any controversy or criticism. During a video conference from the Secretariat on Thursday, the chief secretary reviewed the Swarnandhra P4 Foundation, Water Bodies Repairs, Renovation & Restoration (RRR) scheme, Green Hydrogen Hub and Annadata Sukhibhava programmes with district collectors. He emphasised that as directed by the Chief Minister, 'Golden Families' (Bangaaru Kutumbaalu) should only be adopted by Margadarshulu who come forward voluntarily, without any pressure. He urged collectors to motivate well-placed individuals in society to come forward voluntarily as mentors. With the government planning a large-scale launch of the programme on August 16, he instructed collectors to achieve their defined targets by August 15. In a move to enhance state development and public welfare, the chief secretary directed district collectors to promptly submit proposals for necessary repairs and restoration work to preserve all water resources in the state. He highlighted the government's objective to develop the state's water bodies under the Central government's RRR scheme, with a 60 per cent central share and 40 per cent state share. To transform the state into a green energy hub, the Prime Minister and Chief Minister have laid the foundation stone for a Green Hydrogen project in Pudimadaka. Chief secretary Vijayanand instructed the collectors of Sri Sathya Sai, Prakasam and Anantapur districts to identify the necessary land for establishing solar power projects to supply solar energy to this joint venture between the state government and NTPC. The chief secretary also clarified doubts raised by several district collectors regarding the implementation of the Annadata Sukhibhava programme. Principal secretary, planning, Piyush Kumar, virtually participated in the meeting and explained the SOPs for collectors to follow in implementing the P4 programme.

Adani Green Energy Q1 profit jumps 51% on capacity addition, power sales
CHENNAI: Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) reported a sharp rise in profits and revenue for the first quarter of FY26, driven by strong growth in renewable power capacity and improved operational performance. The company's consolidated EBITDA rose 29% year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 30,400 crore, supported by a 45% increase in its total operating capacity, which now stands at 15.8 GW. Power generation improved significantly, leading to a 42% jump in power sales during the quarter. AGEL's adjusted net profit (APAT) grew 51% YoY to ₹730 crore. Revenue also rose by 36% YoY and 24% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) to ₹3,800 crore, with core power supply revenue contributing ₹3,310 crore. The company achieved better capacity utilisation factors (CUFs), especially in wind energy, which reached 42.3%. Hybrid and solar CUFs also showed improvement, backed by increased output from resource-rich sites. However, AGEL faced a 7% drop in average realisation per unit of power, mainly due to lower merchant power tariffs. Merchant and infirm power sales now account for 41% of the total, up from 33% in the previous quarter. Total capital expenditure stood at Rs 6,500 crore for the quarter, while gross debt remained steady at Rs 78,000 crore. During Q1, the company added 1.6 GW of renewable energy capacity, with major progress at its Khavda project site, which now has 5.6 GW in place. AGEL reaffirmed its target to add 5 GW of new capacity in FY26, despite minor delays at Khavda due to evacuation issues. These are expected to ease in the next quarter. Outlook AGEL continues to explore new opportunities in battery energy storage systems (BESS) and pumped storage projects (PSP), with a 5 GW PSP pipeline under development. The company also expects borrowing costs to decline slightly during the year from the current 9.1–9.2% range. Stock analysts at leading brokerage Emkay Global say that despite some operational challenges and volatility in merchant tariffs, they remain bullish on AGEL's long-term prospects. The stock has a 'Buy' rating with a target price of Rs 1,500, based on strong growth potential and steady earnings. However, they caution that risks remain, including project delays, regulatory changes, and technology-related uncertainties.
