Kelantan FC boss vows to settle wage backlog before M-League kick-off

Malay Mail08-05-2025
KOTA BARU, May 8 — Football club Kelantan Darul Naim FC (KDN FC) has stated its commitment to resolve the delayed salaries of its players, some of whom are owed up to four months, before the start of the new season.
Its president, Rozi Muhamad, said that salaries were previously delayed up to seven months, but the management had settled at least three months' worth since early February.
'We are committed in this issue and have taken steps to resolve it, with four months left to be paid soon to ensure KDN FC can play in the next season of the Malaysia League,' he told reporters after an appreciation dinner for club sponsors and strategic partners here last night, where corporate figure, Datuk Mohd Irwan Rizal Mohd Ali Napiah was appointed as the club's new chief executive officer.
Rozi also denied that the amount owed to players had reached eight months, pointing out the maximum was seven months and they were trying to settle what was owed.
On planning for the team, he said that the club would have about 70 per cent new players and management to mount a challenge in the next season. — Bernama

Carving a new life: Kelantan man's Quranic wall art finds fans across South-east Asia

KOTA BHARU, July 26 — What began as a small idea using leftover plywood has now grown into a thriving wood-carving business with customers from across South-east Asia. That is the story of Muhammad Ali Che Pa, 31, who turned to his artistic talent after being laid off as a health product sales representative during the Movement Control Order in 2020. 'I was desperate for income. That's when I got the idea to create decorative wall pieces featuring Quranic verses using wood I already had at home,' he told Bernama at his workshop in Kampung Pangkal Kalong, Kok Lanas, recently. Today, the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) Islamic Management graduate produces a range of Islamic-themed woodcrafts, including framed calligraphy, wall clocks and home décor items, popular among buyers from Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and Singapore. 'Plywood is ideal because it's easy to cut and shape. I sketch the design on paper, transfer it to the wood, then carve and sand it,' he said. Initially, manual carving took up to four days per piece, limiting him to 15 items a month. He also received a RM10,000 CNC wood router under Kelantan Risda 's entrepreneur mentorship programme, and expects to receive another laser cutter soon. With upgraded tools, Muhammad Ali now produces over 300 items monthly, priced between RM3 and RM800. His monthly income has since soared to five figures, driven by strong demand for Quranic verse carvings in modern home décor. I'm grateful that through this craft, I can share the beauty of Quranic verses while earning a halal, blessed livelihood,' said the artisan, who is assisted by his wife, Nur Hanisah Mohd Zulkifli, 27. Through his brand, Art Lie Craft, Muhammad Ali has proven that wood carving is not just an artistic pursuit. It can also be a rewarding livelihood when fuelled by dedication and sincerity. — Bernama

Idol to ally: Rising star Lee Yiat Qing dives into the big league with icon Pandelela Rinong

KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 — She grew up watching national diving queen Datuk Pandelela Rinong. Now she's diving alongside her. At just 17, national diver Lee Yiat Qing is set to make a splash at the World Aquatics Championships 2025 in Singapore, and her debut is made even more special as she shares the 10m synchronised platform with her childhood inspiration. Having teamed up with the two-time Olympic Games medallist during the national trials in the women's 10 metre (m) platform synchronised previously, Yiat Qing believed that their partnership is beginning to blossom. The 2023 SEA Games gold medallist said she was lucky to be given the opportunity to partner Pandelela, who always offered her technical guidance and motivational support. 'She often gives me advice on technique; it's been really helpful so far,' Yiat Qing told Bernama recently. Yiat Qing won't just be competing in synchro. She'll also dive solo in the women's 10m individual platform across the causeway. Even though she admitted to feeling both pressure and excitement heading into her first world meet, she is eager to test herself against diving elites, especially those from powerhouse China. The Kuala Lumpur-born diver also feels slightly disappointed that she won't get the chance to meet and see China's two-time Olympic Games women's 10m platform gold medallist, Quan Hongchan, in action in Singapore. 'I really wanted to meet Hongchan, but then I learnt that she's not going to compete. A bit sad for me,' she said. It was reported that the 18-year-old Hongchan's absence in Singapore is due to an ankle injury. Joining Yiat Qing and Pandelela in Singapore are Muhammad Syafiq Puteh, Enrique Harold Maccartney, Elvis Priestly Clement, Nurqayyum Nazmi Mohamad Nazim and Yong Rui Jie. The diving events in the World Aquatics Championships will run from tomorrow until Aug 3. — Bernama
