Head jail warder suspended after undertrial dies by suicide
Lucknow: The head jail warder of Sitapur District Jail, Surya Kumar Sharma, was on Friday suspended after an undertrial prisoner allegedly died by suicide inside a high-security barrack on June 4.
The deceased, 52-year-old Ramdas, was lodged in the jail since March 16 in connection with the murder of his son.
Jail superintendent SK Singh submitted a report to district magistrate Abhishek Anand, recommending action against Sharma for gross negligence during his duty shift from 4 am to 8 am, when the incident occurred. The inmate was last seen performing his morning routine but was later found hanging inside the barrack around 7 am.
A post-mortem, conducted under videography, confirmed hanging as cause of death, ruling out any signs of assault. A judicial probe has been requested. tnn

Eid invite turns into horror: 3 minors raped by 2 men in Goa hotel
In a shocking incident in Calangute, Goa, two men were arrested for allegedly raping three minor girls, aged 11 to 15, at a hotel. The accused, aged 19 and 21, had invited the girls under the pretext of celebrating Eid and a birthday. PANAJI: An invitation to celebrate Eid on Saturday turned into a nightmare for three minor girls aged 11 to 15 - including two sisters - who were raped at a Calangute hotel by two friends. Goa Police arrested both accused, aged 19 and 21. The hotel owner - Rajat Chauhan, a native of Haryana - was also arrested later in the day for allegedly allowing the minor girls to stay without verification and consent from their parents, thereby facilitating the crime. A few months ago, the 19-year-old accused befriended the 15-year-old girl on social media and began chatting with her. Last week, he invited her to celebrate Eid. The 15-year-old - whom cops described as the 19-year-old accused's 'girlfriend' - left home with her 13-year-old sister and an 11-year-old friend on Saturday to meet the prime accused. The prime accused and his friend (21) booked a room at a Calangute hotel, where the duo checked in with the three minors to stay overnight and celebrate the 15-year-old girl's birthday by cutting a cake. Police seal hotel, arrest owner, will cancel licence too Thereafter, the prime accused allegedly raped his 'girlfriend' while his friend raped the other two minors, repeatedly. North Goa SP Rahul Gupta said cops received a complaint from the 15-year-old girl's family alleging that the minor sisters had left their residence on Saturday and did not return. Meanwhile, the 11-year-old girl's kin filed another complaint, alleging that their minor daughter was missing, and they suspected that she may have gone out with the daughters of the first complainant. 'After meticulous efforts and after developing the information through reliable human sources and technical sources, all three minor survivors were rescued from a hotel in Calangute. Two men present with them were apprehended and brought to the police station. During the inquiry at the hotel, it was revealed that the accused checked into two different hotel rooms,' said SP Gupta. Goa police filed two separate FIRs in the case. 'During the investigation, both accused were arrested,' SP Gupta said. Calangute police booked hotel owner Chauhan and hotel manager/receptionist Mansoor Shafi Peer, a native of J&K, for allegedly abetting the crime. 'We are sealing the hotel and moving for the cancellation of its licence,' SP Gupta said, adding that hotel management and owners will not be spared if they give a room to a child in the absence of any family or relatives accompanying him/her. 'This is in violation of Goa Children's Act. If any such violation is noticed in the future too, strict action will be taken,' he said. (The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)

Family on tour for Eid, engineer living in Doha: The 5 Keralites killed in Kenya road mishap
A woman and her daughter on a tour as part of Eid celebrations, a woman and her toddler, and an engineer who had last visited Kerala six months ago – these were the five Keralites who were killed in Monday's road accident in Kenya. They died after their bus fell into a ditch while on its way from Nakuru County to Nyahururu Thomson Falls in Laikipia County, 41 km south of Nyahururu Town in Kenya. Twenty-three others — including their family members — were also injured in the accident. All five of the deceased had been residing in Qatar. The 23 injured people are currently being treated at a hospital in Nairobi. In Palakkad's Mannur village, Riya Ann, 41, was travelling with her husband Joyal Joseph and their two minor children when the accident occurred. While Riya and her 8-year-old daughter Tyra were killed, Joyal and his 12-year-old son Travis suffered injuries. O V Swaminathan, a friend of family, said that Joyal worked with a travel and tourism firm in Doha, while Riya was employed with an airline maintenance firm there. Joyal and Travis are stated to be stable and are currently undergoing treatment. 'They were planning to come home next month. The tour was part of Eid celebrations and according to their schedule, they were to return to Qatar on June 10. Riya's mother Shanthi had spoken to her daughter hours before the accident. They were returning to the hotel when the accident occurred,' he said. It was only last month that Muhammed Haneefa, a chartered accountant in Doha, had been to Thrissur in connection with his father's treatment. Although Haneefa survived the crash and is currently being treated, his wife Jesna, 29 and their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Roohi Mehrin did not. 'The families of both Jesna and Muhammed have been settled in the Middle East for several years now,' Poornima Mohan, their neighbour in Thrissur, says. Geetha Shoji Isaac, 57, was in Kenya with husband Shoji and son Abel. From Cherukole near Mavelikkara in Alappuzha, the couple were engineers living in Doha for three decades and had visited Kerala only six months ago. 'Their son, Abel Shoji Isaac is also an engineer and is working in Doha. Another son Joel is a doctor in Kerala. After the tragedy, Shoji's brother Ajith, who was in UAE, rushed to Nairobi,' Shoji's cousin Boban says. Arrangements are being made to send the bodies of the deceased back to Kerala.

Maheshtala clash: Cops hurt, govt vehicles set afire in West Bengal violence
KOLKATA: Five policemen, including DC (Port) Harikrishna Pai , were injured and two govt vehicles were damaged and a bike was set ablaze when cops tried to stop clashes in the Rabindranagar-Akra near Maheshtala on Wednesday. Police resorted to lathicharge and fired tear gas to rein in the situation. Till the last report came in, police continued raids and rounded up four persons. Route marches were also being held. The root of the problem, according to locals, could be traced to a "hurried construction of a tulsi mancha" at a spot, where a member of a minority community used to have a shop. The trader was away for Eid. But the other group alleged the shop was on an encroached land, which belonged to a local temple. Before the administration could mitigate, the two groups started protesting, which snowballed into violence and roadblocks. The mob then targeted police. Around 10 am, a crowd started building near the Rabindranagar Police Station. Between 2 pm and 2.30 pm, the mob suddenly attacked police, who were heavily outnumbered. The mob pelted cops with stones till additional forces arrived and they charged back. But as the unrelenting mob kept growing in number, police resorted to lathicharge and could finally disperse the crowd from the spot around 3.30 pm. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? Another clash broke out around 4.30 pm, with the mob attacking KP cops, including the DC (port) Rai. Cops, in riot gear, formed smaller teams, each led by a senior officer. The police teams reportedly chased the protesters, lathicharged some and lobbed tear gas shells. The situation was brought to normalcy by around 6 pm. Armed battalions and RAF conducted route marches along a 3km radius between Santoshpur Rail Bridge and Rabindranagar PS. Kolkata Police commissioner Manoj Varma and ADG (South Bengal) Supratim Sarkar camped at the spot during this operation. Later, Varma met DCP Pai at a nursing home in Kolkata. "The situation is peaceful now. Raids are on. Four persons have so far been arrested. The injured cops' condition is stable," said a senior officer late at night. Police did not issue any statement. Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, condemning the incident, said despite being attacked, police handled the situation "firmly but with sensitivity". Ghosh, criticising Bengal opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari's comments, said, "Untoward incidents do take place. It happens everywhere. But what should our role be, to inflame it or act responsibly?" Adhikari, who staged a protest outside Bhawani Bhawan, demanded CAPF deployment. "The Calcutta High Court's CAPF deployment order (in Murshidabad) can also be implemented here," he said, indicating he might move court.
