2026 4-star DB commits to Texas A&M over Clemson and Arkansas

USA Today2 days ago
Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class gained its 26th commit in the cycle on Friday night, as four-star safety Tylan Wilson chose the Aggies over Clemson, which is the second time this summer that head coach Mike Elko and his staff won a recruiting battle over the Tigers after five-star edge Bryce Perry-Write committed to Texas A&M earlier this month.
Texas A&M defensive back coach Jordan Peterson will be credited with another recruiting win, as Wilson is expected to play safety with the Aggies, but could easily transition to cornerback due to his speed and strength in zone coverage.
However, it's his pursuit speed and tackling efficiency that make him a potential hybrid linebacker in certain packages, similar to four-star safety/linebacker Tamarion Watkins, who committed to Texas A&M on Monday. Wilson's official visit to College Station sealed the deal for the Mississippi native, who feels that, given Peterson and Elko's development background, which has included sending several star defensive backs to the NFL, this was the right choice all along.
On paper, Texas A&M's 2026 safety rotation will lose one starter in senior free safety Bryce Anderson to graduation and possibly Dalton Brooks to the NFL Draft, while sophomore Myles Davis and freshman Rashad Johnson represent the future starting rotation, which will now include Tylan Wilson.
Standing at 6-2 and 185 pounds, Wilson is currently positioned as 247Sports' 231st-ranked prospect in the 2026 cycle, the 18th-ranked safety, and the 10th-ranked prospect in Mississippi.

Donald Trump Threatens to Block Washington Commanders' New Stadium and Force Name Change

In 1933, the Boston Braves football team became known as the Washington Redskins. Then, 87 years later, the Redskins became known as the Washington Football Team to avoid any further controversy about potential racial slurs. Today, president Donald Trump would like to see the now Washington Commanders go back to their previous name, before the logos changed in 2022. Once again, questions surrounding the Washington football team's name comes at a very interesting time, when the franchise is trying to secure a new stadium location after being at Northwest Stadium since 1997. However, the current stadium is located in Landover, Maryland, and many would like to see the Commanders play closer to their home state, preferably in the nation's capital of Washington D.C. However, recently president Trump issued a threat, that if the current Commanders ownership group, led by Josh Harris, isn't willing to reconsider switching the team name back to the Redskins, then Trump says he 'may put a restriction' on the team. This restriction would even include not making a 'deal for them to build a stadium in Washington (D.C.). Trump believes the Commanders' franchise would be 'much more valuable' and the 'deal would be more exciting for everyone.' He then continued his rant with his further expressed belief that the Cleveland Guardians should return to the Indians and so forth. President Trump calls for Commanders to go back to old nickname, threatens to block D.C. stadium deal if they don't

President Donald Trump is using the bully pulpit again in the NFL, this time to get a franchise to revert to its former nickname that was changed after decades of controversy. Trump made multiple long posts on Truth Social on Sunday calling for the Washington Commanders to switch back to their old "Washington Redskins" team name. He even threatened to block the Commanders' impending move back to D.C. and their new stadium if they fail to do so. Trump also called for MLB's Cleveland Guardians to go back to their former "Indians" nickname. While not mentioning Trump by name, Guardians president Chris Antonetti made it clear the team isn't interested in going back Sunday. 'I understand there are very different perspectives on the decision we made a few years ago, but it's a decision we made and we've gotten the opportunity to build the brand as the Guardians over the last four years and we're excited about the future that's in front of us,' he said, via The Athletic. The Commanders have not addressed Trump's post. The Guardians officially changed their team name ahead of the 2022 season, shortly after they stopped using the 'Chief Wahoo' logo, which many saw as racist and offensive toward Native Americans. The Commanders retired their old 'Redskins' nickname in 2020. They went by the Washington Football Team briefly before landing on the Commanders. Their old nickname, which had been in use since 1933, was widely seen as an offensive slur and drew plenty of criticism in its final years of use. 'For obvious reasons,' Commanders owner Josh Harris said in August, that can't return. 'I think [Commanders] is now embraced by our team, by our culture, by our coaching staff,' he said earlier this year, via ESPN. 'So we're going with that.' Though it's unclear if the threat of blocking their stadium deal, real or not, will sway the Commanders, both Harris and Antonetti seem very content with their franchises' new names. As for the validity of Trump's stadium threat, the Associated Press wrote: The Commanders and the District of Columbia government announced a deal earlier this year to build a new home for the football team at the site the old RFK Stadium, the place the franchise called home for more than three decades. Trump's ability to hold up the deal remains to be seen. President Joe Biden signed a bill in January that transferred the land from the federal government to the District of Columbia. The provision was part of a short-term spending bill passed by Congress in December. While D.C. residents elect a mayor, a city council and commissioners to run day-to-day operations, Congress maintains control of the city's budget.
