Edgewater Wireless Initiates Prototyping of AI Subsystem Powered by Arm Technology

Business Wirea day ago
OTTAWA, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Edgewater Wireless Systems Inc. (TSXV: YFI) (OTC: KPIFF), the industry pioneer in Wi-Fi Spectrum Slicing technology, is pleased to announce it is initiating prototyping of its next-generation Wi-Fi baseband chip powered by Arm® compute platforms, marking a significant milestone in the Company's journey to deliver intelligent, AI-enhanced Wi-Fi solutions at the network edge.
Edgewater Wireless Launches Prototyping of AI Subsystem Powered by Arm® Technology. Bringing machine learning to the Wi-Fi edge, Edgewater Wireless is accelerating the development of intelligent connectivity solutions for high-density environments.
This development follows Edgewater's recent entry into the Arm® Flexible Access Program, which grants early and cost-effective access to a broad portfolio of Arm IP, tools, and support. As part of its next-generation Wi-Fi baseband chip design, Edgewater will prototype with Arm Cortex® CPUs and Arm Ethos™ NPUs to commercialize its AI-driven Spectrum Slicing platform.
'AI-driven spectrum engineering, at the edge, is the future of wireless—and we're building it now,' said Eric Smith, VP Product for Edgewater Wireless. 'Prototyping within Arm's proven ecosystem brings scalable, energy-efficient intelligence directly into the Wi-Fi chipset, bringing machine learning to the network edge. The Arm Cortex and Ethos suite of processors will allow us to develop a new category of Wi-Fi connectivity solutions that unlock throughput, reliability, and efficiency for high-density residential, enterprise, and industrial networks.'
Developing on the Arm compute platform will enable Edgewater to prototype patent-pending AI and machine learning algorithms for real-time traffic management, predictive congestion avoidance, and autonomous interference mitigation —features critical to the performance of Wi-Fi networks in multi-device, interference-prone environments, such as the home or in businesses. Edgewater recently submitted several patent applications to the USPTO and holds trade secrets that contain the algorithms the Company is prototyping. Combined with Edgewater's patented Spectrum Slicing architecture, this intelligence is poised to redefine the wireless experience for users and service providers alike.
'As AI at the edge accelerates, the industry faces mounting pressure to shorten development cycles and deliver next-generation solutions faster,' said Neil Parris, director of partner success and business models at Arm. 'Edgewater Wireless is a compelling example of how Arm Flexible Access enables innovative semiconductor startups to navigate early-stage design decisions with greater confidence and agility. Using our broad portfolio of AI compute technologies enables smarter connectivity at the edge.'
The prototyping phase of the Wi-Fi baseband is part of Edgewater's broader next-generation silicon development initiative, which recently received backing through the Government of Canada's FABrIC initiative, a five-year $223M program to accelerate the commercialization of semiconductor-based processes and products managed by CMC Microsystems. Together, Arm's industry-leading technology and FABrIC's strategic support are enabling Edgewater to de-risk product development and position Canada as a global player in intelligent connectivity and semiconductor innovation.
'This milestone underscores the power of strategic collaboration and access to world-class technology,' added Andrew Skafel, President and CEO of Edgewater Wireless. 'From FABrIC's foundational funding to Arm's ecosystem leadership, we're building the future of Wi-Fi—right here in Canada.'

Columbia University Libraries Modernize Library Infrastructure with EBSCO FOLIO

~ Leading Academic Institution Transitions from Legacy Systems to a Unified Open Platform to Improve Access, Insights and Service Delivery ~ IPSWICH, Mass., Aug. 6, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Columbia University Libraries have officially gone live with FOLIO, replacing multiple legacy systems with a single, unified platform. Backed by the EBSCO FOLIO team at EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO), the transition to an open-source system aims to address evolving research needs and simplify library services through a single, interoperable solution. FOLIO allows Columbia Libraries to manage resources more flexibly while integrating with essential tools, including the Libraries' Blacklight-based CLIO unified discovery system, EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS) and GOBI® Library Solutions. Columbia will also utilize EBSCO's Full Text Finder, Locate and MARC Update services to streamline access, fulfillment and metadata management. The implementation further improved efficiency by connecting FOLIO to Columbia's multiple enterprise accounting systems and reducing duplicate data entry. To complement these integrations, Columbia is adopting Panorama™, EBSCO's library analytics platform, to gain real-time insights into resource usage and user engagement. These analytics will guide collection development, budget planning and user-centered service design. These technologies strengthen Columbia's foundation for scalable, open infrastructure, supporting workflows across discovery, access and analytics. Ann Thornton, Vice Provost and University Librarian, says FOLIO brings strategic value beyond the back end. "The FOLIO platform reflects Columbia Libraries' values — interoperability, openness and responsiveness to research. Equally important was our confidence in EBSCO as a trusted implementation partner. Their support enabled a smooth migration and positions us to adapt to evolving scholarly needs." Heather Macfarlane, FOLIO Implementation Manager at EBSCO, highlights the scope and teamwork involved. "Unifying Columbia's systems under FOLIO required detailed planning, customized setup and close cooperation. The outcome is a modern platform better aligned with the Libraries' shared goals and infrastructure. Columbia's team approached each stage with precision and vision, and their launch shows what's possible when the institution leads and technology supports." Bakkt Expands Global Bitcoin Play With 30% Stake in Japan's Marusho Hotta

Amid a sea of new crypto treasury companies popping up, Bakkt and BitBridge are in the news today, after they both provided updates on their bitcoin treasury strategies. Bakkt (BKKT), the technology firm that went all-in on crypto, has signed a deal to acquire nearly one-third of Japanese trading company Marusho Hotta (8105), in a move that could signal a broader international bitcoin (BTC) strategy for the U.S.-based digital asset platform, the company said in a press release Wednesday. Under the agreement with RIZAP Group Inc., Bakkt will acquire roughly 30% of the Tokyo-listed company, positioning itself as Marusho Hotta's largest shareholder. Pending shareholder approval, Marusho Hotta will be renamed aligning its brand with its new bitcoin-centric direction, the company said. Bakkt has also secured the domain as part of the deal. In a strategic leadership shift, Phillip Lord, President of Bakkt International, will take over as CEO of Marusho Hotta. Meanwhile, bitcoin treasury firm BitBridge Capital Strategies has completed its merger with Green Mountain Merger Inc., the company said in a press release yesterday. The company will start trading under the ticker symbol BTTL on the over-the-counter (OTC) markets by the end of the third quarter, with plans to uplist to NASDAQ thereafter.
