If you want your plants to grow bigger and stronger this summer, experts say you can feed them this one common headache tablet.
Summer has finally arrived and many of us are stepping back out into our gardens to enjoy them in full bloom. It's also the time of year when many crops begin to ripen and trees bear fruit. However, if you're looking to get the most out of your plants, it's usually best to give them a little boost.
A popular way to do this is by adding fertiliser or compost to the soil. However, it can be time consuming to purchase or make your own – which is why gardening experts recommend using Aspirin.
Commonly used as a painkiller for issues like headaches, aspirin actually contains properties that can be hugely beneficial to certain plants. This is because it's made from salicylic acid.
This is a compound which is actually naturally produced by many plants. The experts from Gardening Know How explain: 'Plants produce minute amounts of salicylic acid on their own when they are stressed.'
They continue: 'This tiny amount helps plants cope when they are under insect attack, dry, underfed, or maybe even experiencing a disease issue.' They also add that it helps boost the plant's immune system. Aspirin dissolved in water is touted as remedial for plants that are in need of a boost specifically, such as those that are diseased and in need of urgent attention.
Aspirin must be used sparingly
In order to give your plants a dose of aspirin, it's recommended to dissolve a tablet in water first. Generally, one tablet should be mixed with 4.5 litres of water, although this may change depending on the plant.
Be careful not to overdo it with the aspirin, either. Typically, you should only spray plants with an aspirin solution every few weeks to avoid damaging them Gardening Know How warns that there are potential side effects if aspirin is used improperly. Too much may lead to plants developing brown spots or having a 'burnt' appearance.
To avoid this, they advise that it's best to spray the aspirin solution early in the morning. This is because it gives plant leaves the best chance of drying off before evening.
They also recommend spraying early to avoid harming any beneficial insects. They write: 'Bees and other pollinators are most active once sun has touched the plants, so a period of time prior to that sun's kiss is the best.
You should also wait to see how plants respond to the treatment, aspirin may not be suitable for all flora. However, the nightshade family, which includes aubergine, peppers and tomatoes, can 'benefit greatly'.
If you don't have any Aspirin lying around your medicine cupboard, no need to worry. You can pick up a pack of tablets from Boots for a bargain 54p.

Viral K-beauty brand lands at Boots with ‘lifesaving' £18 serum that has one weird ingredient
This K-Beauty brand that's been a viral sensation has just landed at Boots, and shoppers are rushing to grab the £18 serum that's been hailed 'a lifesaver' - once you get over its weird ingredient Within the world of cosmetic procedures, there's one skincare treatment that has rapidly gained popularity. Aiming to stimulate collagen and elastin creation, polynucleotide injections are a cutting-edge way of successfully diminishing fine lines, dark circles, and loose skin. Whilst the procedure has sparked some raised eyebrows, thanks to one of its shocking ingredients, its effectiveness in tackling visible ageing signs cannot be questioned. But if you don't fancy taking the leap into receiving injections, there is a needle-free option— Anua's PDRN Hyaluronic Acid Capsule Serum. Designed to be added seamlessly into your skincare routine alongside your other go-to serums, this viral hit works to provide the same results as the polynucleotide injections by using the same weird ingredient. This £18 formula hails from the popular Korean skincare label Anua, which has become a cult favourite and viral sensation on social media platforms like TikTok. The serum features PDRN (salmon DNA or 'salmon sperm'), alongside hyaluronic acid and collagen, to intensively moisturise and plump the complexion. This diminishes fine line visibility, unveiling the coveted "glass skin" that K-beauty has made famous. The serum's revolutionary capsule technology enables its active components to penetrate more deeply into the skin, addressing various epidermal levels to deliver fuller, more luminous skin almost instantly. The PDRN Capsule Serum features a featherlight and rapidly absorbing consistency, enabling you to apply it multiple times for an overnight treatment effect or mix it with your foundation for a glowing finish. This serum is ideal for everyday application, and the brilliant aspect is that there's no requirement for injections, needles, or bookings—simply add it to your usual skincare regimen. Dot a few drops onto your face and gently pat it in with your fingertips before slathering on your moisturisers or oils. And if you're using it during the day, don't forget to layer on SPF30 to protect your skin. Not only does it combat signs of ageing and quench your skin's thirst, but it also repairs and maintains your skin barrier, leaving you with a lasting, radiant glow. But the PDRN Capsule Serum isn't the only unique skincare serum from the Korean beauty world. The COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence, now £24.99 (down from £27.99), is another darling among beauty aficionados. It boasts real snail secretions and promises to deliver ultra-intense hydration and repair dry, damaged skin. Rodial's bee venom-infused skincare range also features an unusual ingredient. Each product genuinely contains bee venom – or more precisely, melittin peptides ethically sourced from bee venom – and is said to give your skin a fuller, plumper look. This skincare sensation is up for grabs from Cult Beauty and Lookfantastic for £20, but those looking to save a couple of pounds can grab this Anua serum for £18 from Boots and Amazon. Not long after landing at Boots, this serum has already garnered a near-perfect 4.8 out of 5-star rating on Boots' website. One thrilled shopper says: "Glowing, glass skin. Sat really well under other serums." Another 5-star rater gushes: " PDRN serum has been a lifesaver for my skin —it works incredibly well, and I use it religiously every morning and night." And a third chimes in: "Boots are nailing it with the Korean beauty supplies recently! I have been using this serum for a good 2 weeks+ and my skin overall feels more hydrated/plump, and I have noticed my redness has also reduced. Safe to say I enjoy this serum and would recommend this!"

I tried Waterpik's ultra plus WP-150 water flosser – here's what happened
There's always room for improvement with our teeth. The results of the last Adult Dental Health Survey revealed that just 77 per cent of adults brushed their teeth twice a day. Even then, the high level of plaque seen in this group suggests that brushing alone is not good enough. This is where water flossers come in. Flossing the back of your mouth with string floss can be tricky if you have mobility issues. Cleaning between dental work for those with braces or fixed retainers can prove impossible. Thankfully, the electrical advantage of a water flosser is that pressurised water flushes out trapped food and debris from even the most hard-to-reach spots. There are plenty of water flossers in 2025, but Waterpik's WP-150 water flosser (£129.99, promises to remove up to 99.9 per cent of plaque from treated areas while being 50 per cent more effective at reducing gingivitis, a mild form of gum disease, compared to regular string floss. Those are big claims, so I wanted to give Waterpik's ultra plus a whirl to see how our teeth fared with this techy upgrade to the good old string floss. I got hands-on with the popular device to see how it compares to competitor models and regular flossing. How I tested With six different attachments to test, I used the flosser multiple times to gauge its effectiveness in each mode. Working my way around all of my teeth, I put the flosser through its paces at different times of the day to assess its effectiveness after sleeping and eating. While testing, I recorded the following information: Ease of use: With lots of items included in the box, from the water tank to the storage caddy, I recorded how simple it was to set-up the flosser, plus how easy it was to charge (does it need to be near a plug 100 per cent of the time?) and whether flossing itself took some getting to grips with. Design: Bathrooms aren't often the most spacious rooms in a home, so I weighed up how practical the design was for an average home. I wanted to see if it was easy to store, and I also judged the quality and ergonomics of the attachments, storage holders, flosser grip and setting switches. Results: After eating and drinking (including coffee and wine), I recorded how well the flosser's various attachments tackled our daily and weekly plaque build-up, and noted any mishaps or instances of sensitivity.
