Jais detains six over controversial eHati programme
Jais director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said the suspects, two men and four women aged between 26 and 47, were picked up in Shah Alam on July 18.
He said investigations were opened under Sections 7 (false doctrine), 8 (false claims), 10 (insulting Islam) and 16 (unauthorised religious publications) of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995.
"The investigation was launched following suspicions that a ritual or ceremony contrary to Islamic teachings was held during the programme," he said in a statement yesterday.
To date, Jais has recorded statements from 38 witnesses and identified 282 participants whose statements will also be taken. Three books and three VCDs seized from the event have been submitted to the Selangor Mufti Department for review.
He said a comprehensive investigation into the programme's full content and module is ongoing, and findings will be submitted to the Selangor Syariah Prosecution Department for further action.
On July 16, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed reports of nude scenes involving four women during a segment called 'Queens Night'.
That same day, six individuals, including the husband-and-wife founders of the programme and their child, were remanded for three days to assist in a separate investigation into indecent behaviour and minor offences. – BERNAMA

She and five other Malaysians, including her husband, were released by the Narathiwat Prison Court about 11am (local time) after Thai prosecutors failed to present witnesses or evidence to support an appeal. The group had been detained since Nov 1 last year after being accused of possessing 6,059 Yaba pills. On Wednesday, the court dismissed the prosecution's sixth attempt to extend the appeal deadline. Four Malaysians still held in Thailand, awaiting travel documents
RANTAU PANJANG: Federal police Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan has confirmed that four Malaysian nationals detained by Thai authorities last year remain in Thailand as of today. He said they are currently at the Sungai Golok Immigration Office, awaiting the reactivation of their travel documents. "Two of the six Malaysians, including singer Eda Ezrin, returned to Malaysia late this afternoon. "The remaining four are still at the immigration office in Golok, Thailand, pending passport clearance," he told the New Straits Times when contacted tonight. Hussein said the four are expected to return to Malaysia tomorrow, once their documentation is in order. The six Malaysians were reportedly detained by Thai police in November last year during a raid at a hotel in Sungai Golok town. Thai police also seized 6,059 Yaba pills from the group. It is learnt that the four still at the Sungai Golok immigration office are Eda Ezrin's husband Mohd Affendi Ahmad, Mohamad Alif Deraman, Erdieka Mohd Noor, and Zuhaira Nasrin. Eda Ezrin and her friend Nur Aida Mamat returned to Kelantan this evening but were taken to the Rantau Panjang police station to have their statements recorded.

RM30,000 fine for man who beat pet dog ‘Lucky' in viral video
A resident had recorded footage of the accused hitting the dog. The video was later uploaded and went viral across several social media platforms. KUALA LUMPUR : A man who was filmed beating his pet dog named Lucky with a wooden stick and rubber hose was fined RM30,000 by the Ampang sessions court today after he pleaded guilty to the offence. Judge Norshila Kamarudin handed down the sentence to air-conditioning technician Kiew Mun Kiat, 43, and ordered him to serve six months' jail in default. He paid the fine. 'The court also ordered that the dog be forfeited to the government and put up for adoption through the Selangor veterinary services department (DVS). Kiew was charged with brutally assaulting a male German Shepherd multiple times using a wooden stick and rubber hose at his home in Pandan Indah at 5.29pm on July 31. According to the facts of the case, between 5.29pm and 5.41pm on July 31, a resident recorded footage of Kiew hitting the dog. The video was later uploaded and went viral across several social media platforms. A joint inspection by the Selangor DVS and Ampang Jaya police, following public complaints, led to the discovery of the tied-up male dog, along with a wooden stick and rubber hose in the house compound. A physical examination conducted on the dog on Aug 1 revealed a wound on the front of its left leg, along with localised hair loss (alopecia) and skin redness (erythema). Earlier, Selangor DVS prosecuting officer Sharif Sabran urged the court to impose a heavy sentence, citing public interest and the seriousness of the offence. 'In this case, the accused repeatedly beat his dog, resulting in injuries that could cause trauma to the animal. The prosecution is also requesting that the dog be forfeited to the government for adoption by eligible and interested members of the public,' he said. Kiew, who was unrepresented, appealed for a lighter sentence on the grounds that he was supporting his family, and that he beat the dog to teach it a lesson after it bit his hand.
