Maine Turnpike traffic snarled for several hours after tractor-trailer crash in Arundel

Yahoo03-05-2025

May 3—A tractor-trailer crashed into a guardrail and caught fire along the Maine Turnpike in Arundel on Saturday morning, causing traffic delays that lingered into the afternoon.
In a news release Saturday afternoon, Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss said troopers responded to the wreck just before 8 a.m. near mile marker 30, between the Kennebunk and Biddeford exits, on Interstate 95 northbound.
State police believe the driver "suffered a medical event" while driving the freight-laden truck; he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the median guardrail.
The driver, whose name was not released, sustained minor injuries from the crash and was taken to MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Biddeford (formerly known as Southern Maine Medical Center) for treatment, Moss said.
The left and middle lanes of I-95 northbound were closed for several hours Saturday, slowing traffic in the area, while crews cleared the scene.
The crash is under investigation. State police were assisted at the scene by Wells and Kennebunk firefighters, the Maine Turnpike Authority and two towing companies.

Kennebunkport family displaced after fire damages home, destroys garage

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine — Fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire that tore through a property known as 'The Tamaracks' on Maine Street on June 6, reducing a garage to rubble and severely damaging an adjacent home. Crews from the Kennebunkport Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m., assisted by firefighters from Kennebunk, Wells, Arundel, and Biddeford. While no injuries were reported, several vehicles in or near the garage were destroyed, and the blaze displaced the family living in the adjacent home. Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said investigators from the Maine Fire Marshal's Office responded to the scene on Saturday morning, June 7. "Investigators say a motorcycle that had been started just minutes before the fire began is being considered a possible cause," Moss stated. Moss said the fire is still under investigation. Kennebunk and Kennebunkport Fire Departments are aiding in the ongoing investigation. Carl Junction mayor suspended by city council

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — The mayor of Carl Junction has been suspended. During Tuesday night's council meeting (6/3), council member James Shanks made a motion to suspend Mike Moss from his duties as mayor. The motion then passed by a vote of 6-to-2. Immediately after the vote, Moss left. It was then chaired by Mayor Pro Tem, Hollie Lavigne. Prior to the vote, the council unanimously agreed to hire Lauber Municipal Law, which will provide outside counsel regarding an ethics complaint filed against Moss. That complaint was filed by Shanks and accuses Moss of an alleged insult against female city employees. At least four other alleged complaints have also been made against Moss. After the meeting, Shanks told us, 'I made the motion to protect any potential victims who work or have worked for the city.' Moss declined to comment tonight, as did two other city officials.
