Exhibit showcases Japan's beauty
The former Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan, Farukh Amil's photo exhibition "Beautiful Japan – Through the Eyes of an Ambassador," featuring a collection of Japan's culture, people, landscapes, and technological advancements, was opened at the Pakistan National Council of Arts on Friday.
Secretary, National Heritage and Culture Division Secretary Hassan Nasir Jamy, and Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, H.E. Akamatsu Shuichi inaugurated the show.
Amil, who played an important role in strengthening diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Japan, captured these images during his tenure in Japan, reflecting the beauty and intricacies of Japanese life.
The exhibition, featuring around 40 selected photographs, aims not only to showcase the beauty of Japanese society and culture but also to reinforce the ties between Japan and Pakistan fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Japan's rich heritage and contemporary society among Pakistani audiences.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Ambassador Shuichi expressed his admiration for Amil's work, noting that his deep understanding of Japanese society is evident in the photographs, as each photograph is a testament to Amil's keen eye and deep affection for Japan. As Japan's Ambassador to Pakistan, he is delighted to see Japan through the lens of someone who knows our country so well, he added.
"I believe this exhibition powerfully connects our two nations. It allows us to share Japan's beauty and complexity with the people of Pakistan, fostering deeper understanding and appreciation. It reminds us that despite the distance, we share the values, respect for traditions, love of beauty, and appreciation for the human experience", remarked Ambassador Shuichi.
Faruk's talent was even recognised in Japan where he won the prestigious Grand Prix in the Ambassador's Photo Exhibition competition.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until 19th February. The gallery is closed on Saturday (today).

Winners of art contest announced
Pakistan National Council of Arts has announced the winners of the National Youth Art Competition 2025 organised by its Visual Arts Division. This annual event celebrates the creativity and talent of young Pakistani artists, providing them with a national platform to showcase their skills and compete with their peers. Renowned calligrapher Humayun Bangash, who also presented awards to the winners, inaugurated the show. Former Ambassador to Japan, Farukh Amil, and PNCA Director General Ayoub Jamali were also present on the occasion. The National Youth Art Competition and Exhibition were announced in July 2025 under the themes "Bunyanum Marsoos" and "Marka-i-Haq", received an overwhelming response from young artists. Nationwide, more than 300 submissions were received, each reflecting deep patriotism and a love for the country, along with heartfelt tributes to the brave soldiers safeguarding Pakistan's borders. Top prize winners received cash awards: first prize of Rs40,000 went to Arina Khan, second prize of Rs30,000 to Amna Wajahat, and third prize of Rs20,000 to Syeda Wajeeha Fatima. Honourable mentions, each receiving Rs5,000, were awarded to Saleha Naseem, Urooj Saleem, Noorul Fajar, Mishal Mahsud, Abeeha Humayun, M. Hassan Ali, and Amna Bibi. All participating artists were awarded certificates in recognition of their creativity and dedication. In line with this year, Pakistan 78th Independence Day celebrations, the art competition and exhibition carried the banner of "Marka-i-Haq" (Battle of Truth) symbolising Pakistan's resilience, progress and national pride. The initiative served as a heartfelt tribute to the courage, sacrifice and patriotism of the Pakistan Armed Forces.

Blackpink's Lisa dramatises 'Dream'
Blackpink's Lisa has revealed she will release a short film inspired by her song "Dream," with Japanese actor and model Kentaro Sakaguchi in a starring role. The visualiser will offer fans a cinematic interpretation of the song, she said in her social media post, revealing the project, "An emotional, beautiful story that will soon be yours," Lisa wrote. The announcement has generated anticipation among fans worldwide, many of whom are eager to see the collaboration between the K-pop star and the acclaimed Japanese performer. The news comes after weeks of fan speculation, sparked by a series of online interactions and public sightings linking the two. On August 4, Lisa posted an image to Lloud's official X account and her Instagram showing her playfully biting someone's arm while surrounded by a production crew. Speculation grew when fans noted his attendance at Blackpink's recent Deadline tour stop in Korea, as well as his appearance alongside Lisa in a popular TikTok video earlier this year. "Dream" originally appeared as the 13th track on Lisa's debut album Alter Ego, released on February 28 and the short film is set to release on August 13. Lisa is currently performing alongside her Blackpink bandmates on the 'Deadline' World Tour. The group's next stop is a two-day engagement at Wembley Stadium in London on August 15 and 16, before heading to the Philippines. Blackpink, meanwhile, is rumoured to be making a November comeback with a new extended play (EP). A music industry insider told Soompi that the four-member group has completed recording tracks for the project and finished a promotional photo shoot. Originally slated for release in October, the EP's launch was reportedly moved to November. In response to the speculation, Blackpink's agency YG Entertainment neither confirmed nor denied the timing. "We will announce it later through official promotions," the company said in a statement quoted by Soompi. If the release goes ahead, it will be the group's first multi-track project since their 2022 album Born Pink. Their most recent music drop was the digital single Jump, released in July. The rumoured comeback aligns with Blackpink's ongoing Deadline world tour, which will bring them to the Philippine Arena in November for a two-day run. The timing has fuelled fan excitement, as it could coincide with the potential EP launch. Fawad's 'Abir Gulaal' to release worldwide except India
After months of buzz, shifting release dates, and political storm clouds, Fawad Khan's latest Bollywood film 'Abir Gulaal' is finally set to hit the screens worldwide, but not in India because of a ban on Pakistani artists. As per Biz Asia, the film will release worldwide on August 29, with its big premiere set overseas but not in India. According to another Indian media report, the movie will release in theatres in over 75 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Directed by Aarti S Bagdi, known for Chalti Rahe Zindagi, Abir Gulaal is expected to be a cross-cultural film that highlights the chemistry between Fawad and Vaani. The film is produced by Indian Stories, A Richer Lens, and Aarjay Pictures. It is co-produced by Vivek B Agarwal, Avantika Hari, and Rakesh Sippy. Playing the role of a UK-based chef, Fawad appears opposite Bollywood actor Vaani Kapoor. Abir Gulaal will be an addition to the romantic comedy genre. It will mark Fawad's return to Bollywood after nine years. Lisa Hayden, Ridhi Dogra, Parmeet Sethi and veteran Farida Jalal are also part of the cast. Abir Gulaal was originally slated to release on May 9. However, the film remains banned in India. The ban on Pakistani actors was implemented by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) following the Palagham attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in April. Many trade organisations, including All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) and the Federation of Western lndia Cine Employees (FWICE), also pressed for a ban on Pakistani artists in the Indian film industry. Hence, the release of Sardaar JI 3 which starred Pakistani actor Hania Aamir and Abir Gulaal that cast Fawad in lead role were both halted. The film had generated buzz among fans, particularly due to Fawad's return to the Bollywood scene. Fawad made his Bollywood debut in 2014 with Khoobsurat, starring opposite Sonam Kapoor. He went on to appear in Dharma Productions's Kapoor & Sons and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which was his last Indian project before the ban on Pakistani artists in 2016.
