Perry man allegedly killed wife to ‘put her out of her misery,' court documents say
PERRY, Iowa — A Perry man is charged with murder after police say he called 911 Sunday night and confessed to killing his wife.
Richard Hoesing, 75, is being held in the Dallas County Jail. The Perry Police Department said its officers responded to 2615 Lucinda Street around 8:42 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from Richard.

A criminal complaint filed in the case said Richard told Dallas County Dispatch that he had killed his wife Jean Hoesing, 74. The complaint said Richard told dispatchers he 'killed her to put her out of her misery' because she suffered from Bipolar condition and M.S.
Jean's body was found in a bedroom on the main floor and it appeared she had a 'severe laceration across the front of her throat,' according to the complaint. A small wooden-handled kitchen knife was found in the bathroom, which an officer said looked to have been cleaned but had what appeared to be blood on the tip.
Blood was also found on Richard's hands and clothes.
PPD said Richard was cooperative with officers before being transported to the Perry Police Department and eventually being charged with first-degree murder. He was then taken to the Dallas County Jail to be booked.

Former Brighton security guard arrested for trying to meet teen in Wyoming Co.
PERRY, N.Y. (WROC) – Officers with the Perry Police Department arrested a former Brighton school security guard on Friday and charged him with disseminating indecent material to minors. According to the PPD, a Facebook group called 'Decoys Making a Difference' went to the police station and turned over a binder that contained a chat log between 54-year-old Christopher L. Kervin and who he believed was a 14-year-old girl. Officers say in the conversations, Kervin asked the teen to send inappropriate pictures and 'wanted to teach the female lessons about her body.' Kervin then went to Crosbys in Perry to meet the alleged 14-year-old. Kervin was interviewed by an investigating officer and ultimately confessed to the conversations he had with the female who he believed was 14 years old. Officers charged Kervin with disseminating indecent material to minors in the first degree, and gave him an appearance ticket. Kervin will appear in Perry Village Court on July 8. The Brighton Superintendent of Schools released the following statement: 'Dear Members of the Brighton School Community, We are writing to let you know that we are aware of stories in the media regarding a former employee that has been charged with first-degree disseminating indecent material to minors. The individual in question has not worked in the District for approximately a year and a half. During their employment, we did not receive any complaints or reports of inappropriate conduct. We do not have any reason to believe that this situation is in any way related to our school district or their prior employment. That said, we will monitor the situation closely and work with law enforcement to address any additional concerns or information that results from their investigation. Please contact your child`s teacher, counselor, or principal if you have additional concerns or questions. Kevin McGowan, of Schools ' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Springfield Pride headliner Dawn Richard told ‘Diddy' jurors of threats, violence, abuse
SPRINGFIELD — Pop and R&B singer Dawn Richard headlines the Springfield Pride Parade this weekend, just three weeks after taking center stage at the federal sex trafficking trial of one-time mentor Sean 'Diddy' Combs. 'It's a celebration of Pride, and she's wonderful,' B.J. Coleman, public relations director for Springfield Pride, said Friday. Local Pride organizers booked Richard well before she was called by federal prosecutors to testify against Combs at his Manhattan trial, and organizers instead are focusing on Richard's support for the LGBTQ community. 'She's an awesome performer,' Coleman said. 'We just want to celebrate.' Richard was scheduled to play the fundraising ball on Friday. On Saturday, Richard is expected to join thousands for the parade on State Street, followed by a Pride block party on Stearns Square. Last month, Richard told jurors at Combs' trial that the hip-hop mogul threatened to kill her if she told anyone she saw him physically abusing his longtime girlfriend. Richard, according to The Associated Press, said Combs made the threat one day after she witnessed Combs punch, kick and swing at girlfriend Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura with a skillet. Richard said he told her and another woman who saw the attack that 'we could go missing' if they didn't stay quiet. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mitzi Steiner asked Richard what she took 'we could go missing' to mean. 'That we could die,' Richard said, adding she was shocked, because all of this happened just as she was beginning to record with Diddy. She performed in two of Combs' more successful recent acts: girl group Danity Kane and trio Diddy — Dirty Money. Diddy — Dirty Money was comprised of Richard and Kalenna Harper with Combs. But Richard, a New Orleans native, sued Combs last year, alleging threats and groping. Richard testified over two days, detailing the abuse she saw Ventura suffer at the hands of Combs. 'I saw him kick her, punch her in the stomach,' the AP quoted Richard as saying. And the abuse came every time Ventura spoke up for herself or, in Richard's words, 'had an opinion.' Combs' lawyers say prosecutors can prove domestic violence but not the federal crimes he's charged with. The 3rd annual Springfield Pride Parade took place on Saturday, June 1. ‘I've missed her so much': Alpharetta woman detained by ICE for weeks released on bond
An Alpharetta woman who immigration agents arrested and detained for more than three weeks is free and back with her husband. A judge in El Paso, Texas, granted Daniela Joly Landin a $10,000 bond Wednesday, allowing her to return with her husband to Georgia. 'It was a very special and emotional moment,' her husband, Richard Landin, said, speaking with Channel 2's Bryan Mims from a hotel room in El Paso. His mother recorded video of the two walking out of the facility. Smiling and teary-eyed, they embraced one another. Daniela and Richard met online and were married on Feb. 8 in Alpharetta. Daniela is 24 years old and from Colombia. She entered the United States in May 2024, presented herself to the U.S. Border Patrol, and applied for asylum. Her husband said violent paramilitary groups in Colombia put her life in danger. 'They kill people for really just about any justification they can come up with,' Richard said. But a judge denied her asylum application, so she appealed to the Board of Immigration Appeals, which has not yet heard her case. Her husband said on May 12, three Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents knocked on their apartment door, saying Daniela had an order for deportation because her asylum was denied. She spent about two weeks at the Stewart Detention Center in Columbus but was transferred to the El Paso Service Processing Center in Texas. TRENDING STORIES: Man tries to carjack 2 victims, police say. Then a good Samaritan jumped in to help GA ringleader of fraud scheme sentenced for creating fake recruiting websites to steal identities Police investigate double shooting that left men injured in Greenbrian Mall parking lot Her immigration attorney, Jameel Manji, of Decatur, told Mims last week that immigrants with pending appeals have typically not been detained. But he said under the Trump administration, ICE agents have been more aggressive, pursuing undocumented immigrants who have been in the country less than two years, whether they've broken any laws or not. 'Two years is kind of an arbitrary marker that this administration is using, but basically when someone's been here less than two years, they consider them prime candidates for expedited removals,' Manji said. Richard, who talked with Daniela on the phone daily, said the El Paso facility was overcrowded, making living conditions difficult. 'It was so packed that there weren't any beds left for new arrivals,' he said. 'So, there was a fair amount of them sleeping on the floor.' Dustin Baxter, the attorney who worked to provide Daniela a bond hearing, said the judge granted bond because, 'she's always complied with everything immigration has asked her to do.' She has attended all of her court appearances and filed all paperwork on time, he said. In immigration court, defendants have to pay bonds in full and in cash. Richard said he used his savings, donations from family, and a GoFundMe campaign to raise money. Speaking in Spanish, Daniela said she's grateful for everyone who helped in her case, calling this an answered prayer. Mims sent emails to the Department of Homeland Security seeking a statement about this case, but has not yet received a response. As for Daniela's appeal of her asylum denial, her attorneys said that it could take months, or even years, depending on the backlog of cases facing the Board of Immigration Appeals. 'Asylum is very difficult to obtain,' he said. 'The bar is extremely high, barring that she was specifically targeted for persecution.' Her husband is also petitioning for Daniela to gain permanent legal residency because she's married to a U.S. citizen. For now, he's overjoyed to have her in his arms again. 'Honestly, it's a blessing,' he said. 'It's like an absolute miracle to have her back because I've missed her so much these three weeks. I feel like I'm whole again when I'm with her.'
