Pop icon's daughter says her dead pets will haunt Richard Gere for 'breaking promise' on $10million childhood home

Daily Mail10-07-2025
Paul Simon's singer daughter has lashed out at actor Richard Gere for selling her $10million childhood home to real estate developers who plan to demolish the 1930s mansion to build a plot of new homes.
Lulu Simon, 30, took to Instagram on Tuesday to blast Gere, 75, for allegedly renegging on a promise he made to her family to 'take care of land' when he bought the New Canaan, Connecticut, property from the Simon & Garfunkel musician and his wife Edie Brickell in 2022.
'Just in case anyone was wondering if I still hate Richard Gere – I do!' Lulu wrote in a post in all caps, accompanied by a selfie and a screen shot of a news article about the home being torn down despite backlash from preservationists.
She claimed that looking after the land was a 'condition' of Gere's purchase but did not share any further details about the alleged agreement.
'He bought my childhood home,' she continued. 'Promised he would take care of the land as condition of his purchase. Proceeded to never actually move in & just sold it to a developer as nine separate plots… Hate! Him!'
In a second post, Lulu issued the Pretty Woman actor a chilling warning.
'I hope my dead pets buried in that backyard haunt you until you descend into a slow and unrelenting madness.'
The caption was displayed alongside an old photo of Gere, edited onto a collage depicting some of her late pets.
A third post followed, which consisted of a meme of a frog sitting in front of a colorful sky along with the caption, 'Time will put your enemies in the ground.'
The posts were eventually deleted around 18 hours after they were published, according to Realtor.
A representative for Gere has not yet responded to a DailyMail.com request for comment.
The Chicago star bought the six-bedroom, seven-bathroom home from Simon and Brickell for $10.8 million, and sold it for $10.75 million in an off-market deal to real estate developers in October 2024.
Then, in May, it was revealed the historic home was scheduled for demolition in order to make way for a nine-property development on the site.
That news came after Gere and his wife, 42-year-old Spanish publicist Alejandra Gere, relocated to Madrid so the pair and their children could be closer to her family.
The couple share sons Alexander, 6, and James, 5. Alejandra is also mom to son, Albert, 11, with ex-husband Govind Friedland, while Gere shares son Homer, 25, with ex-wife Carey Lowell.
'For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends and her culture,' Gere told Vanity Fair Spain in April 2024.
'She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so it is only fair that I give her at least another six living in here.'
Alejandra later shared they plan on moving back to the US in a 'few years.'
Like Gere, Paul Simon also made a loss when he sold the property.
The Sound of Silence troubadour bought the home with Brickell in 2002 for $16.5million, according to Town & Country.
They attempted to sell the Georgian-style estate in 2019 for $13.9million but a buyer was not forthcoming.
The asking price fluctuated for the next three years before Gere purchased the 31.8 acre plot in 2022.
Gere had originally sought to convert the majority of the land into a farm.
During a 2023 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, Gere's lawyer David Rucci assured the commission that the historical property would not be turned into commercial real estate.
'I have received phone calls from four or five neighbors [who were] very concerned… if this was going to be some sort of big commercial operation, and it's really not,' Rucci said at the time, according to the N ew Canaan Advertiser.
'The owners… they both have grown up on farms, they're very interested in farms and teaching their kids about farms…so this is really important to them.'
Although the property is now destined for demolition, salvage experts from York-based Hudson Valley House Parts have worked to extract some of the home's architectural gems to be repurposed.
The company shared an Instagram Reel in May, showing off the sprawling property and some of the historic elements they were able to save.
'For the past month we have been fascinated by this estate as our team has been working on location salvaging many architectural elements,' the company wrote.
'Formerly owned by Richard Gere who purchased the property from Paul Simon and Edie Brickell, this 1930s home is scheduled for demolition with the intention of dividing the 32 acres into nine large lots.'
The lots will range between 2.2 and 4.8 acres. They will be sold empty, giving buyers the chance to build their dream homes from the ground up, CT Insider reported.

Paddy McGuinness can't flog £6.5m mansion he shares with ‘unhappy' ex wife Christine who wants to move out

TELLY star Paddy McGuinness and his ex-wife Christine are struggling to flog the £6.5million home they share. The comic, 51 — known for catchphrase 'No likey, no lighty!' on dating show Take Me Out — has had 'very little interest' in the mansion. 2 He and Christine, 37, still live in the seven-bedroom Cheshire spread — now on the market for 4½ months — with their twins Leo and Penelope, 12, and eight-year-old daughter Felicity. It featured on their 2021 BBC show Paddy And Christine McGuinness: Our Family And Autism. Despite remaining in the house together to co- parent, Christine is reportedly unhappy with the current living situation and wants to move out. She and Paddy paid £2.1million for the home in 2020 and it has a gym, his and hers dressing-rooms, an orangery and planning permission for a rear extension and roof terrace. They stand to make a big profit but sources say it's quite a pricey house even for posh Prestbury in east Cheshire. One said: 'It's a lovely house with all mod cons in a fantastic location but there's been very little interest. 'It's the most expensive house in Prestbury on Rightmove but it appears the market's a bit flat right now.' Paddy and Christine announced their split in 2022 and finalised their divorce last year. Christine has said: 'We live in separate parts of the house.' Paddy said the family's living arrangement 'doesn't feel tricky'.

Wife insists ‘3-hour night' is perfect for saving your marriage – you don't even need to spend full time with husband

A WIFE is sharing her secret '3-hour rule' that keeps her marriage alive, and other married couples can't get enough of it. TikToker Rachel Higgins posted a video sharing the simple way she and her husband manage to reconnect after long days. 2 Higgins and her husband began following a three-hour night back in 2024, and the mother said it has been a 'game changer' in their relationship. What is the three-hour night? Higgins explains it as dividing up three hours into three different sections, which allows them to accomplish chores and connect. Higgins and her husband would previously spend the entire night taking care of their young daughter, lounging on the couch while scrolling through their phones, and then going to bed. However, after prioritizing their relationship, their nights take on a slightly different look. 'What we do is after my daughter goes to bed…we take an hour of productive time,' Higgins explained. 'Anything that's productive for the household.' During the productive hour, they do chores that they couldn't accomplish throughout the day, such as cleaning the kitchen or laundry. 'The second hour we're dedicating to our marriage. 'During this time, we put our phones away and we're solely dedicated to each other and to our marriage.' Higgins said that this hour can look a little different every night. How can I bring up kinks with my partner? Some nights it may mean taking a shower together, while others it may just be as simple as playing a game together. The purpose of this hour is to debrief, discuss, and connect. 'The last hour is about taking time to yourself,' she said. In the final hour, both of them can do whatever they want without judgment. Carson Daly's relationship rule In 2024, Carson Daly revealed his secret relationship rule to People: Daly told People that he and his wife, Siri Pinter, sleep in separate rules. 'It's been good for us,' said the Today host before revealing that he and Siri 'secretly love it.' Daly isn't the only celebrity to participate in the "sleep divorce" trend. Cameron Diaz said in 2023 that she and her husband Benji Madden also sleep in different rooms. 'We should normalize separate bedrooms,' she said. "To me, I would literally, I have my house, you have yours." This may be lying on the couch, on your phone, or any other self-care activities you need to do. 'Main point is to inspire you to be intentional with your time if you feel stuck doing the same thing every night like we did,' Higgins wrote in the comments. 'No hard rules.' Higgins said that they don't necessarily accomplish their three-hour night goal every night, but they try to do it three to four times a week. The mother said that even just succeeding one night a week can be enough. Higgins' three-hour night drew the attention of over 300,000 TikTok users, with many people rushing to the comments to support the idea or question how she manages to make it work.

Brad Pitt's mother dead as family pay tribute

Brad Pitt 's mother has died aged 84. The death of Jane Etta Pitt, a retired school counselor, was confirmed by her granddaughter and Pitt's niece Sydney in a heartbreaking post on Wednesday. Sydney , the daughter of Pitt's younger brother Doug, lauded her 'sweet Grammy ', writing: 'We were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier. 'If you knew Grammy, you knew she had the biggest heart. She cared deeply for everyone and everything, no questions asked. 'She taught me how to paint, how to be strong, how to lead with kindness, to love Jesus through everything, and to find joy in the smallest things. 'She made up the silliest games just to make us laugh, and she believed in fairness, in putting others first, and doing good simply because it was the right thing to do. She added Jane 'could keep up with all 14 of us grandkids without missing a beat. 'There was no limit to the love she gave, and everyone who met her felt it.' 'I don't know how we move forward without her. But I know she's still here in every brushstroke, every kind gesture, every hummingbird. She was love in its purest form. 'We were truly blessed to have her to love on growing up and I know she lives on through each of us.' Jane is survived by husband William Alvin Pitt, three children and 14 grandchildren. Son Doug has Sydney, Landon and Regan with his wife Lisa, while daughter Julie is mom to Caleb, twin daughters Josie and Rylie, as well as adopted sons Caden and Cruz, whom she shares with her husband Scott Neal. Pitt is father to Shiloh, 19, twins Vivienne and Knox, 17, and three adopted children Maddox, 24, Pax, 21 and Zahara, 20 - who he welcomed with ex-wife Angelina Jolie. He has been estranged from his children since an explosive fight on their private jet in 2016 resulted in Angelina, 49, filing for divorce - and last year insiders told the Daily Mail his parents were 'heartbroken' at not seeing their grandchildren for eight years. Brad Pitt's representatives declined to comment when contacted by the Daily Mail. Jane wed Brad's father William - the former owner of a trucking company - in 1962 and the future Oscar winner, now 61, was born the following year. After the birth of Brad in 1963, William and Jane welcomed son Doug in 1966 and sister Julie in 1969. They raised their family in Springfield, Missouri. While Jane and William kept mostly out of the spotlight, they did occasionally join Pitt on the red carpet. They memorably supported their son and then-partner Jolie at the 2012 Academy Awards. In 2014 they walked the red carpet with Pitt and three of their grandchildren at the premiere of Jolie's film Unbroken - after the actress was unable to attend due to chickenpox. Jane said of 'We're so very proud of Angie. This means so much to our family, especially our grandchildren. We love her dearly.'
