Gerik crash: Pahang Sultan orders mosque to hold 'solat jenazah ghaib'

KUANTAN: Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has decreed that all mosques in the state hold the 'solat jenazah ghaib' (funeral prayer in the absence of the deceased) for the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students who perished in the road crash in Gerik, Perak.
Pahang mufti Datuk Dr Asmadi Mohamed Naim who announced the matter, said the 'solat jenazah ghaib', along with the recitation of Yasin and Tahlil, would be held after Maghrib prayers tomorrow.
"Let us all pray for the recovery of the victims who are still receiving treatment, and may Pahang be protected from any calamities or harm," he said in a statement.
In the early Monday morning incident, 15 UPSI students were killed when a chartered bus carrying them from Jertih to the university's main campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak, overturned in an accident involving a Perodua Alza on the East-West Highway, near Tasik Banding, Gerik. - Bernama

In a brief statement, Shahlan Jufri said the photograph was taken in June this year and has no connection whatsoever with the death and Zara Qairina, and the latter's mother Noraidah Lamat. 'The attempt by certain parties to link it is a malicious slander aimed at misleading the public. 'I stress that my commitment lies solely with seeking justice for Zara,' he said in a Facebook post last night, which has seen been made private. Shahlan stressed that as a lawyer, he acts without fear or favour in upholding justice and the integrity of the law. 'I will not bow to any pressure or attempts to distort or disrupt this struggle, which has been ongoing since the very first day I was appointed as Zara's lawyer,' he said firmly. He explained that the key matters required in pursuing the legal process as counsel for Zara Qairina's mother had been achieved and were ongoing. 'For the record, the main steps have been taken since my appointment as Zara's lawyer, including the successful exhumation of the grave, the completion of the post-mortem, and spending more than eight hours in the autopsy room at the client's request. 'We have also sought a heavier sentence for the perpetrator, namely the maximum 10 years, while our application for an inquest has been approved and is now underway,' he said. Advertisement His pillion, a 26-year-old man, from Lawas, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Tuaran Hospital for treatment. Tuaran District Police Chief Supt Noraidin Ag Maidin said the accident happened at about 5.55am when the victim, riding a Yamaha 15ZR motorcycle from Kota Kinabalu toward Tuaran, collided with the rear of a Perodua Alza driven by a 50-year-old man. The car driver who was heading to Kudat escaped injury. 'After hitting the right rear of the car, the motorcycle skidded into the right lane, crashed through a concrete road barrier and the victim was thrown and dragged more than 40 meters,' he said. KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ WPKL) impounded three stage buses at tourist hotspots in the city centre last Sunday. JPJ WPKL director Hamedi Adam said the buses were found to have committed several serious offences, including operating with expired motor vehicle licences (LKM) dating back to April and June 2025, as well as Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) certificates that had lapsed since May and June last year. 'All three buses were driven by locals and enforcement action has been taken, with summonses issued to the drivers and vehicle owners in accordance with the provisions of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and related regulations,' he said in a statement today.
