Djeidi Gassama has only been a Rangers player for a matter of weeks, but he is quickly turning into the club's main man, and certainly the man for the big occasion. The winger had already grabbed a goal in both legs of the second qualifying round win over Panathinaikos, and made it three on the spin in Europe with a fine opener against Viktoria Plzeň at Ibrox.
It was a lovely bit of link play with Cyriel Dessers that allowed the winger the chance to curl the ball home from inside the box to send the home fans wild.
It's safe to say he has already paid off the transfer fee paid to Sheffield Wednesday for his services.

Mikel Arteta hopeful Kai Havertz, Riccardo Calafiori and Leandro Trossard will be available for Athletic Club game

Mikel Arteta is hopeful that Kai Havertz, Riccardo Calafiori and Leandro Trossard will be fit when Arsenal host Athletic Club on Saturday, August 9 'if everything goes to plan'. Havertz missed their 3-2 home defeat to Villarreal with a muscle issue. Calafiori felt a tweak in their 3-2 win over Newcastle United in Singapore, while Trossard picked up a groin issue in a 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong, with both players missing the Villarreal game. Advertisement On the trio, Arteta said: 'Yesterday in training he [Havertz] felt something and this morning he wasn't quite right, so we decided to rest him. I think it will be a matter of a couple of days. Hopefully by the weekend, if everything goes to plan, he will be fit. 'The three that we lost during the tour were Big Gabi (Magalhaes), Leo and Ricky. For Saturday I think they both [Trossard and Calafiori] have a chance if everything in the next few days evolves in the way they have already been.' In the Villarreal loss, Gabriel played his first minutes for Arsenal since April 1, when he suffered a hamstring injury that required surgery at the end of last season. He was joined by Jurrien Timber, who also got his first minutes of pre-season after suffering an ankle injury in May. New signing Viktor Gyokeres made his first start for the club, playing 63 minutes before Arteta made wholesale changes to his side. With Havertz absent, Mikel Merino finished the game up front. On Gyokeres, the Arsenal manager said: 'It was very important for him to start a match and start to have the feeling and the connection with the team. 'He's been with us only a week or so, but I already saw a lot of things and a lot of purpose, especially the way he was attacking in certain spaces. 'I think mentally, and understanding what he needs to do, it will be 100 per cent or more because he's so willing and so confident that he can deliver straight away. I have no doubt that he will be in a really good place.' Arteta's only other chance to give Gyokeres a start before the Premier League season begins will be against Athletic Club on Saturday, August 9. Then, Arsenal will be just over a week away from kicking off their campaign away to Manchester United on Sunday, August 17. () Spot the pattern. Packers QB Jordan Love wants to make more off-schedule plays in 2025

Healthy again, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love wants to be a more creative playmaker on off-schedule plays in 2025. Love told Kevin Clark of ESPN that accuracy is a big emphasis coming out of the 2024 season, but he also wants to do more off-schedule playmaking now that his knee and groin injuries are healed. 'Create more plays, and make more off-schedule plays and use my legs more when things break down,' Love said. Love injured his knee in Week 1 and missed two games, and later injured his groin in late October. The two leg injuries limited his ability to break contain of the pocket and find plays outside of structure — a big part of his game as an athletic, big-play-hunting passer. 'I wasn't creating as many off schedule plays last season,' Love said. 'Obviously I was dealing with some injuries and different things like that, but I think that's a big part of my game that I got to get back into.' Love said he is 'pushing at practice' to emphasize creating the off-schedule plays. The reps during training camp are important to develop muscle memory and chemistry for himself and his receivers. At many practices this summer, Love has scrambled or found completions outside the pocket on extended plays. A quarterback who can make plays off schedule can help mitigate the impact of pressure and turn empty plays into positive ones. While Love was terrific at avoiding sacks last season, his mobility — and possibly his accuracy too — was affected by the injuries. The 2025 season is a fresh start, and Love wants to take a step forward. 'It's just taking that next step, continuing to keep growing myself and finding ways to get better and keep improving on things,' Love said. 'A big focus for me is just the consistency. Trying to be the best player I can be every play with my footwork and accuracy…just build the little things and keep stacking.' Sky: Newcastle agree personal terms with Milan defender Thiaw

Newcastle United have agreed personal terms with Milan defender Malick Thiaw, amid rumours the German centre-back could be leaving the Rossoneri this summer. According to what has been reported by Sky journalist Patrick Berger on X, Newcastle have agreed terms on a four-year-deal with the former Schalke man, whilst Bayer Leverkusen also remain keen on the defender. MADRID, SPAIN – NOVEMBER 05: Malick Thiaw of AC Milan controls the ball during the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD4 match between Real Madrid C.F. and AC Milan at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on November 05, 2024 in Madrid, Spain. (Photo by) However, Berger suggests Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri does not want the player to leave this summer, as he sees a potential future for the German in a 3-man defence. What next for Thiaw amid Newcastle interest? At the start of the summer, it looked apparent that Thiaw was on the transfer list for Milan. However, Allegri has reportedly been convinced by the 23-year-old in pre-season so far and having additional options at centre-back may be vital for the way the former Juventus coach wishes to run things in Lombardy. MILAN, ITALY – FEBRUARY 18: Zepiqueno Redmond of Feyenoord is challenged by Malick Thiaw of AC Milan during the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Knockout Play-off second leg match between AC Milan and Feyenoord at San Siro Stadium on February 18, 2025 in Milan, Italy. (Photo by) Newcastle reportedly made a €30 million offer for Thiaw and talks between the two clubs continue but the Rossoneri are in a position to demand a large fee for the defender.
