Longhorns women's basketball earns unique honor to represent USA this summer
In August, the USA GLOBAL JAM showcase will return, and Longhorns fans will have a special reason to tune in this year. The Longhorns women's basketball team has been selected to represent the USA during the showcase, which will be held in Toronto from the 13th-17th.
GLOBAL JAM is an international basketball showcase that features men's and women's Under-23 teams from around the globe. Following another impressive regular season, Texas will get to shine on the global stage.
Over the last few years, the Longhorns have been one of the best teams in the nation, making them an ideal choice.
"The University of Texas brings strong traditions of basketball excellence," said Michael Bartlett, Canada Basketball President and CEO. "As the 24-25 SEC co-champions and their advancement to the Final Four, we're proud to welcome this storied program and their fans to GLOBL JAM this August."
During the 2024-2025 campaign, Texas won 35 games, setting a program record for wins in the NCAA Era. They also made history by advancing to the Final Four for the first time in 22 years. Their roster included Madison Booker, the SEC Player of the Year. She also got help from Rori Harmon who earned WBCA All-America honorable mention honors.
As the Longhorns look to build on their success, they will get to participate in a showcase they will never forget. They will still have Booker and Harmon leading the way against the best talent in the world. While their focus is on winning a national championship, starting the season, playing in the GLOBAL JAM is something many fans and players have circled on their calendars.

Upcoming Cubs-Brewers Series Could Decide NL Central Winner

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Milwaukee Brewers have taken MLB by storm since the All-Star break. Multiple winning streaks of 10-plus games have catapulted the Brewers to first place in the National League Central and have given them the best record in MLB. Monday, Milwaukee will begin its most important series of the season against the Chicago Cubs and the series could reveal the clear winner in the NL Central. CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - JUNE 17: Pete Crow-Armstrong #4 of the Chicago Cubs hits a solo home run during the eighth inning against the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field on June 17, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois. CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - JUNE 17: Pete Crow-Armstrong #4 of the Chicago Cubs hits a solo home run during the eighth inning against the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field on June 17, 2025 in Chicago, Brewers entered Monday with a commanding eight-game lead over the Cubs in the division. Chicago will have a chance, though, to trim into that lead this week. The two teams begin a five-game series at Wrigley Field beginning Monday. It will be the final time this season the two sides play each other. Not only is the series important for division purposes, but the winner of the series will also be the winner of the season series which could eventually be a tiebreaker at the end of the year. For the Brewers, dropping two or three games in the series wouldn't be a major ordeal. Their current lead in the division gives them a bit of leeway to slip up and lose a few games. Chicago on the other hand, is in a must-win situation if it has any hopes of winning the NL Central for the first time since 2020. Today is the first day the Cubs have gained ground on the Brewers since July 30. They were a game out of first place then. They fell to 9 out before today. Hard to pick up ground when the team you're chasing never loses…unless you sweep a lot of doubleheaders! — Jayson Stark (@jaysonst) August 17, 2025 A day-night doubleheader Monday will set the tone for the entire series. Milwaukee will have its ace, Freddy Peralta on the mound in Game 1. Chicago will counter with its Rookie of the Year contender Cade Horton. Horton has a 0.32 ERA since the All-Star break, and he is the exact pitcher the Cubs would want on the mound to try and get a series-opening win. A series win for the Brewers would all but guarantee a third straight NL Central title barring an improbable September collapse. TCU sets sights on Big 12 title with Hoover leading the charge

FORT WORTH, Texas — TCU seemed to finally be getting back on track with Josh Hoover fully established at quarterback and an improving defense. The trick is carrying that into a new season with a brutal early schedule. After surprising everyone three years ago with an undefeated regular season and making the national championship game in coach Sonny Dykes' debut, the Horned Frogs stumbled to a losing record in 2023 and then were 3-3 halfway through last season after ugly losses against SMU and four-win teams UCF and Houston. They went on to a 9-4 record by winning their final four games, the longest streak any Big 12 team takes into this season.

Penn State, Georgia lead preseason college football NCAA Re-Rank 1-136

The Big Ten and SEC lead the way in the debut USA TODAY Sports College Football Re-Rank 1-136 for the 2025 season, mirroring the very top of the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll. Texas and Ohio State don't top the list, however. Instead, the re-rank starts with No. 1 Penn State and No. 2 Georgia, followed by No. 3 Clemson. The Longhorns land at No. 4 and the Buckeyes at No. 6, sandwiching No. 5 Notre Dame. At this point, the Nittany Lions are more of a sure thing than Ohio State, which has a new quarterback, a new backfield, a largely remade defensive front seven and new coordinators on offense and defense. The switch to Georgia atop the SEC stems from one of the biggest questions in the Bowl Subdivision entering the regular season: After beating Texas twice last season, are we really sure the Bulldogs are poised to cede control of the conference to the Longhorns? PATH TO PLAYOFF: Sign up for our college football newsletter But this might not last past the year's first full weekend, when Ohio State hosts Texas in one of the marquee season openers in recent FBS history. A win by either team might be enough to justify a leap into the top spot. Rounding out the top 12 are No. 7 Alabama, No. 8 Oregon, No. 9 Miami, No. 10 LSU, No. 11 Oklahoma and No. 12 Illinois. LSU is another team in line for a major boost after Week 1 should the Tigers win at Clemson. Overall, the top 30 teams in the first re-rank include 10 from the SEC, eight from the Big Ten, five from the Big 12, four from the ACC, two from the Mountain West and one independent in the Fighting Irish. The favorites by Power Four conference are Penn State, Georgia, Clemson and No. 13 Kansas State. The Wildcats are at the front of a very crowded top of the Big 12 that includes No. 18 Arizona State, No. 19 Texas Tech, No. 28 TCU and No. 30 Utah. Over in the Group of Five, the preseason favorites are No. 23 Boise State (MWC), No. 35 Tulane (American), No. 48 James Madison (Sun Belt), No. 50 Toledo (MAC) and No. 55 Western Kentucky (Conference USA). And at the bottom of the 1-136 stands a familiar face: No. 136 Kent State will begin the regular season in the same spot where the Golden Flashes ended 2024.
