Nepal, Thailand secure berth in Women's T20WC 2026 Qualifier
Both teams, along with UAE, featured in a Super Three contest, which would've seen the top two sides in the group make it to the Global Qualifier. Nepal completed the chase of UAE's 114 in the final over to confirm their progress on Monday, joining Thailand, who also secured their berth to the next round.
Coming to the fixture, after electing to field against the UAE in Bangkok, Nepal kept a check on the Emiratis' scoring rate. Despite Esha Oza's patient 39, the Middle East side could manage just 114/7 in the 20-over mark. Manisha Upadhyay played a starring role after returning with figures of 4/20 with the ball.
Nepal were clinical with the bat, and never lost sight of the target despite setbacks. Nepal sealed their five-wicket triumph in the 20th over, with skipper Indu Barma and Rubina Chhetry chipping in with important contributions.
Naruemol Chaiwai's Thailand side defeated the Emiratis earlier on Sunday. With Thailand's match against Nepal the only remaining fixture, neither side can be overtaken on the points tally.
Thailand's win over UAE was a dominant display from the South-East Asian side, who hammered 144/5 in the first innings, courtesy of Natthakan Chantham's blazing exploits, and Nattaya Boochatham's steady contribution. The UAE lost Esha Oza early and were never in contention in the chase thereafter, finishing at 90/5.
Thailand and Nepal join Bangladesh and Scotland at the Global Qualifier, who made it to the event via their participation at the last ICC Women's T20 World Cup, as well as the United States, who claimed victory in the Americas Qualifier, which was held in Argentina back in March.
Two Global Qualifier spots are available through both upcoming Europe and Africa Qualifiers, with one place up for grabs in East Asia-Pacific action. The top four teams at the Global Qualifier will progress to the marquee tournament which will be held in England and Wales, with the hosts joined by Australia, India, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Zaheer posted the photograph on Instagram with the caption, 'Buggi night with Shana log,' giving fans a throwback to the camaraderie during their playing days. The reunion came at an eventful time for both Zaheer and Rohit, albeit for different reasons. For Rohit, the get-together capped a week that saw him climb to No. 2 in the ICC ODI batting rankings , overtaking Pakistan's Babar Azam. With 756 points, the 38-year-old sits just behind Test captain Shubman Gill (784). The rise comes despite Rohit not having played an ODI since India's Champions Trophy triumph earlier this year, with his last competitive outing being in the 2025 IPL season. Former captain Virat Kohli holds fourth spot (736), while Shreyas Iyer (8th) and KL Rahul (15th) give India a strong top-15 presence. Rohit, who has retired from Tests and T20Is, is currently on a break and is expected to return for the three-match ODI series against Australia in October. For Zaheer, the week brought a different kind of headline. As reported earlier, the Lucknow Super Giants are set to part ways with their mentor ahead of IPL 2026 . According to sources, LSG will appoint a new mentor with a bigger, cross-franchise role, while owner Sanjiv Goenka is expected to name a Director of Cricket to oversee RPSG Group's other teams, including Durban's Super Giants (SA20) and Manchester Originals (The Hundred).

SA all-rounder Corbin Bosch penalised for Level 1 breach of ICC Code of Conduct
Last Updated: South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel South Africa's fast bowling all-rounder Corbin Bosch has been penalised for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I against Australia on Tuesday. The International Cricket Council (ICC) stated that one demerit point has been added to Bosch's disciplinary record. The incident took place in the 17th over of Australia's innings when Bosch, after dismissing Ben Dwarshuis, gestured towards the player's dugout in a way that could have provoked an aggressive reaction from the batter. Bosch was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to 'using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match." He accepted the sanction proposed by the ICC match officials, avoiding the need for a formal hearing. In the match, South Africa was lifted to an impressive 218/7 by Dewald Brevis, who hit a blistering unbeaten 125 off 56 balls, the highest individual score by a Proteas batter in T20Is. Playing in just his ninth T20I, Brevis, 22, reached his century in just 41 balls, becoming the youngest men's T20I centurion for South Africa. He also recorded the second-fastest men's T20I hundred for his country. In reply, Tim David's 24-ball half-century kept Australia in contention of chasing the massive total. However, three wickets each from Bosch and Kwena Maphaka bowled the hosts out for 165, securing a 53-run win for South Africa. The deciding match of the T20I series will be played in Cairns on Saturday. The game will also be the first-ever Men's T20I at Cazalys Stadium, expected to attract a sell-out crowd of 10,000 spectators. After hosting the ODI series opener on August 19, Australia and South Africa will head to Mackay for the final two matches on August 22 and 24, respectively. This will also be the first time the Australian men's team plays an international match at the Great Barrier Reef Arena.
