Celtic issue Trongate title party statement as supporters urged not to attend

Yahoo16-05-2025

Celtic supporters have been urged not to attend the Trongate title party in Glasgow tomorrow in a club statement.
Officials at the Parkhead club have encouraged supporters to celebrate the Scottish Premiership title party at Celtic Park and not descend on Glasgow for "unlicensed large public gatherings".
The Green Brigade previously announced a Trongate Title Party following the final league match against St Mirren on Saturday, May 17.
In recent years, thousands of supporters have gathered in the city centre to celebrate the league triumph, but Celtic have requested that supporters do not continue the trend this year.
The club have, though, confirmed talks have been held to try and agree a suitable venue for title celebrations away from Celtic Park in the city centre in the future.
A Celtic statement released on Friday read: "Congratulations on being a Champion again and thank you for the fantastic support you have given the Club throughout the season.
"We want everyone to enjoy these very special moments and we look forward to welcoming our fans to Celtic Park on Saturday for another great Trophy Day celebration.
"Outside of Celtic Park, while we want to celebrate in style, we want to do so mindful of others and in a safe and responsible manner.
"The Club has engaged in recent months with local community and residents' groups, many of which include Celtic supporters, and it is clear that large gatherings in public spaces, even when positive and celebratory, can cause issues for those living and working in these areas.

"While previous celebrations involving Celtic fans have been well intentioned, unfortunately, as local community stakeholders have made clear in recent weeks, some of these have led to severe congestion and difficulties for emergency services, residents and local businesses.
"Further, without the planning, facilities and infrastructure of an organised, licensed event, the number of supporters present at previous gatherings has become so great that the safety of fans has also become an issue of real concern.
"The Club encourages supporters to follow the advice issued recently by local community stakeholders in this regard.
"For all of these reasons, the Club would encourage supporters not to attend unlicensed large public gatherings, which do not have safety planning, facilities or infrastructure for supporters attending.
"Celtic has been trying for some time to work with city stakeholders to seek to discuss and develop plans, which might allow for a more suitable venue for celebratory events away from Celtic Park.
"We can assure our fans that we will continue to do so, as we strive to develop appropriate arrangements for our supporters in the future, as is the case in other cities.
"As we enjoy our fourth successive Premiership Title, let's celebrate safely and responsibly.
"Everyone at Celtic thanks you sincerely for your continued support."

Clarke gets positives before World Cup quest

With the mood around the national team a bit edgy, this game had the feel of a no-win situation for Steve Clarke and his players. Of course they had to win, but they needed a few more positives to come out of it than just that. Advertisement Clarke will be pleased to have got a few. Firstly, Che Adams scoring a treble was a big boost given no Scotland striker had scored for the national side in a year. George Hirst also grabbed an instinctive first international goal, capping a decent two games for the Ipswich striker on his first couple of starts. There was also the performance of 18-year-old Lennon Miller, who although the level of opponent was weaker than the Scottish Premiership sides he faces every week, impressed. He was crucial in Adams' second goal, with his pressure and then pass, teeing the striker up to give Scotland breathing space. Advertisement There were other flashes from him, too. Whether it was a couple of piercing passes into forward players, or one-two combinations out wide to get Scotland moving forward, he was in the thick of the action. There were also debuts for Andy Irving, Josh Doig, Connor Barron and Kieron Bowie. Clarke said these games would have no bearing on how they start the World Cup qualifiers, but the Scotland boss will be grateful to be heading for the holidays on a brighter note.

Leinster 37-19 Glasgow: Three things we learned

Scots downed in Dublin… again For a Scottish rugby player, heading for Dublin must be about as much fun as heading to the dentist – you know there's going to be pain. No Scottish side has ever won at the Aviva Stadium and Irish rugby's haunted house spooked Glasgow into playing well below their capabilities. Advertisement Leinster were very good. There was a lot of pre-match chat about them being off the boil, but the sight of Scottish opposition on home soil was the perfect tonic. It followed a similar pattern to many Irish v Scottish match-ups in recent times, and the hex the Irish have over their Celtic cousins shows little sign of being broken any time soon. Warriors can be proud of title defence Despite the disappointing finale, Glasgow can be proud of the defence they put up of their URC title in what has been a very testing season. The injury list has been savage. Sione Tuipulotu, Huw Jones, Zander Fagerson, Scott Cummings and Jack Dempsey have all missed big chunks of the season. They're not the only ones. Advertisement It's been a struggle and Warriors have had to dig far down into their reserves to find players to step into the breach. The fact they made it to the last four, and dispatched a good Stormers side so impressively in the quarter-finals, is an achievement in itself. Franco Smith – will he stay or will he go? Franco Smith looked emotionally drained when he spoke to BBC Scotland in the bowels of the Aviva Stadium after Saturday's defeat. Long seasons away from your family, living every moment of highs and lows of a team you have invested so much into emotionally, will do that to you. The South African was in no mood to offer any guarantees he will still be at Scotstoun next season. Advertisement Smith is clearly unhappy at the direction of travel under performance director David Nucifora with regards to player recruitment, and you wonder if the head coach perhaps feels he has done all he can at Glasgow Warriors.
