Archdiocese of Hartford, Connecticut officials react to death of Pope Francis
The pope was recently hospitalized for pneumonia. He gave one final message in St. Peter Square on Easter Sunday, spreading words about hope and unity among people and peace around the world.
'He was such a people person and he really loved the poor, and he really embodied Jesus's message, and we are sorry to see him go,' Rose Buono of Manchester said.
Fr. James Sullivan of the Basilica of the Immaculate Reception said that Francis will be forever known for his compassion and mercy, saying that he was a 'constant comeback to Christ.'
Many of the parishioners hope that the next pope builds off of what Francis accomplished.
'Someone like him, that knows the poor and the migrants, and the people who are impoverished, and just somebody who is like Jesus,' Buono said. 'I hope we have another one like him.'
Others said that they hope the next pope has more of a traditional Catholic faith that takes the church 'back to its roots.'
