Nitish dedicated himself for devp of Bihar: Minister

Time of India4 days ago
Patna: State's rural works minister Ashok Choudhary on Wednesday said just as Arjuna in the Mahabharata focused on the eye of the fish to achieve his target, similarly, CM
Nitish Kumar
, has dedicated himself day and night to the comprehensive development of Bihar, creating plans to ensure benefits reach the last poorest person in society.
Addressing a 'Jan Samvad' programme near Chainpur in Kaimur district, he said the visionary thinking of the CM has made education a powerful medium for social change. In 2005, the state's dropout rate was 10.5%, which has now reduced to less than 1%.
"For the first time in the country, children from the mahadalit, minority, and extremely backward classes were integrated into the mainstream of education through schemes like Talimi Markaz and Tola Sevak.
Initiatives like the school uniform scheme and bicycle scheme have successfully brought millions of girls to school," he said.
"Months before Nitish took the charge of the CM in Nov 2005, only 4 lakh students appeared for the matriculation examination, but today, this number exceeds 18 lakh, including 8.5 lakh girls—presenting a clear picture of women's empowerment in Bihar," Choudhary pointed out.
While referring to other schemes related to women's empowerment, Choudhary said, "Two unique schemes of the Nitish govt—Jeevika Didi and Didi Ki Rasoi—have become examples nationwide.

Through Jeevika, lakhs of rural women have become bank facilitators, entrepreneurs, and leaders, while 'Didi Ki Rasoi' has provided local women with employment and respectable roles in schools, hospitals, and offices. A budget provision of Rs 225.78 crore for the "Mahila Samvad" programme in FY 2024-25 is also evidence of the CM's women-centric thinking.
"
He also said that these efforts have been praised by the World Bank, UNICEF, and various national and international organisations.
The 'Bihar model' is considered an inspiring example in the field of women's empowerment, adopted by other states as well, Choudhary said.
Hours before addressing the 'Jan Samvad' programme, the minister reviewed his department's schemes and roads in Bhabua and Chainpur assembly constituencies of Kaimur district. State's minority welfare minister Jama Khan and the Bihar Rajya Nagrik Parishad general secretary Chhotu Singh were also present on the occasion.

A son shouldn't try to outshine father, says Ramadoss

TRICHY: PMK founder S Ramadoss sought to go back to his roots, the Vanniyar Sangam, to assert his position in the outfit and PMK amidst the leadership tussle with son Anbumani Ramadoss . Chairing Vanniyar Mahalir Maanadu (Vanniyar Women's Conference) at Poompuhar on Sunday, held a day after Anbumani conducted the party's general council, Ramadoss said a son shouldn't attempt to outshine his father. `` When our Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple recently, he spoke about how Rajendra Chola did not want the temple to be taller than the Big temple that his father built. A son shouldn't try to outshine father. Beautiful words,'' Ramadoss said. But for that remark, Ramadoss chose not to mention Anbumani's name or attack him through his speech. Nevertheless, Ramadoss' attempts to assert his position was evident throughout the event. Other leaders too avoided mentioning his name even as they praised efforts of Ramadoss for the upliftment of the community. ``I would form a strong alliance for the upcoming alliance. Only my words matter,'' he said. ``Never listen to anyone else,'' he said during the course of his speech. Interestingly, Ramadoss' wife Saraswathi and daughter Gandhimathi were seated next to Ramadoss on the dais. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Unsold 2021 Cars Now Almost Free - Prices May Surprise You Unsold Cars | Search Ads Learn More Undo PMK men justified their participation saying that it was a women's conference. Still, another section expressed surprise as Saraswathi never participates in party or Vanniyar Sangam events, even if it was about women. The prominence given to Gandhimathi was also unmissable. Appointment of Gandhimathi's son Mukundan as PMK youth wing president had resulted in the first public spat between Ramadoss and Anbumani. Mukundan had eventually resigned. Batting for the 10.5 % quota for vanniyars, Ramadoss urged chief minister M K Stalin to conduct the caste survey in TN. ``My dear friend Karunanidhi gave 20 % quota for MBCs. Why you (Stalin) shouldn't take a step forward and conduct a caste survey. I request you to conduct it and find a place in history,'' he said. Ramadoss said that he could organise a massive protest for the quota, but did not want to do so as it would trouble people. Ramadoss then asked Stalin to send 10 officers to him. ``If they act according to my suggestions, ganja and alcohol can be eradicated,'' he said. RTI activists push for wider scope, tougher action on info denials

Madurai: The Tamil Nadu RTI Activists' Movement held its state-level conference at the Tamukkam Convention Centre here on Sunday, passing 20 resolutions to strengthen the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005, and expand its scope. Former RTI chairman E M S Sudarshana Nachiyappan said exemptions for "sensitive information" had no place in today's information era. "The government should not withhold information when an RTI is filed," he said, citing how RTI had revealed ₹840 crore spent by the Prime Minister on official overseas tours. He noted that an RTI seeking details on China's reported occupation of 10,000 sq km of Indian territory was rejected on "sensitive information" grounds, despite the data being visible on GPS. Key resolutions included proactive disclosure under Section 4(1)(B) of the RTI Act, faster transfer of applications between departments, protecting applicants' personal details, and penalising public information officers who unlawfully deny requests. Activists also sought to bring private institutions providing essential services under the Act, hold monthly grievance redressal meetings at the district level, and live-stream information commission hearings. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Una strategia mirata per il tuo futuro finanziario eToro Click Here Undo The conference urged the state government to direct all cooperative societies to comply with RTI provisions, expand the online RTI portal to cover all public authorities, and publish annual information commission reports within a year of the financial year's end. They also called for appointing politically unbiased commissioners with integrity and legal expertise. Other demands included requiring first appellate authorities to conduct direct hearings to resolve most cases locally, handling complaints strictly under Section 18(1) instead of converting them into second appeals and giving priority hearings to senior citizens. As part of the event, activists filed 5,000 RTI applications across various state departments. Organiser Abdul said the resolutions aimed to make governance more transparent, curb misuse of "sensitive" exemptions, and uphold citizens' right to know in letter and spirit. Mahapanchayat held in protest against Sikar Master Plan 2041

Jhunjhunu: A mahapanchayat held Sunday at the Agricultural Produce Market in Sikar, Jhunjhunu, opposed the Sikar City Master Plan 2041. People from 50 affected villages participated, with various organisations and political parties lending their support. The opposition to the masterplan 2041 pertains to residents of affected villages claiming that after the implementation of Master Plan 2031 and Sikar being granted divisional status, the UIT implemented Master Plan 2041, which is neither relevant nor logical. They claim that land allocated for specific purposes in the 2031 Master Plan has been removed, and areas have been designated. They also claimed road alignments were made arbitrarily — width set at 400 feet in some places and 200 feet in others without site visits, even where houses already exist in colonies. Instead of widening existing roads, new roads have been shown in the master plan. Protesters alleged that the new masterplan was firmed up without due stakeholder consultations. They also said changes in land use as per the 2031 plan had led farmers to sell their land at low prices to the land mafia. As per the 2041 plan, these tracts of land have now been designated for free acquisition, leaving farmers feeling cheated and fearing fresh land acquisition especially since the new plan has marked new sector roads, passing through farmers' fields. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Are The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo This also includes residential colonies, approved by the UIT, being shown as public use land in 2041, even when these approved colonies are already populated. The mahapanchayat, attended by political functionaries including state Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra, Sikar MLA Rajendra Pareek, Congress district president Sunita Githala, CPM MP Amra Ram, and former MLA Pema Ram, among others, announced a complete shutdown in Sikar on August 16, demanding cancellation of the master plan. Dotasra criticised BJP and asserted the need for everyone to fight the master plan, claiming the govt would eventually have to yield. "Congress is pursuing a legal battle for this," he said. Dotasra also criticised the govt for cancelling the Sikar division and Neem Ka Thana district. CPM MLA Amra Ram said the master plan was not intended for the development of Sikar but for its destruction, alleging that the govt only sought to seize the land of poor farmers.
