Surat's smooth-coated otters set to make Delhi Zoo their new home
Surat: Soon, Delhi Zoo will welcome a pair of smooth-coated otters from Sarthana Zoo, while the Diamond City's zoo will receive five Sangai deer — popularly known as Manipur deer — and a pair of macaws in return. Preparations for the exchange are in full swing, with zoo officials timing the transfer for the monsoon season, which offers safe and comfortable conditions for the animals during their road journey. "We are making arrangements to transport the otters and to receive the deer from Delhi Zoo. Transportation will be done by road, and we already have the basic infrastructure in place," said Rajesh Patel, zoo superintendent. The zoo will receive three female and two male Sangai deer, which will be transported in specially designed cages to ensure their safety. Patel added that the exchange had been under discussion for months, but the zoo waited for the moderate weather of monsoon, as animals face health risks during the intense summer heat. Currently, Sarthana Zoo houses 54 species, including 490 mammals, birds, and reptiles. It holds a unique distinction as the only zoo in India with a successful smooth-coated otter breeding program. Since breeding began in 2008, the zoo has seen 41 otter pups born, and 19 otters exchanged with other zoos, bringing 31 different species to the city's collection. In total, Sarthana Zoo has received 79 animals and birds in exchange for otters, a testament to the value of its breeding program. In another upcoming exchange, the zoo will send a six-year-old female hippopotamus, born at the zoo, to Indore Zoo in exchange for a four-year-old male Royal Bengal tiger. Currently, the zoo has one 14-year-old male tiger, and the addition of new tigers from Indore and Bhubaneshwar zoos is expected to pave the way for a tiger breeding program in Surat. MPBSE urges eligible students to apply for Central Sector Scholarship by Oct 31, check details
The Board of Secondary Education, Madhya Pradesh has called on eligible candidates to apply for fresh and renewal of Central Sector Scholarship for the academic year 2025-26. The last date to apply for the Central Sector Scholarship is October 31, 2025.(Representative image) Candidates must note that the last date of online applications has been fixed as October 31, 2025. Sponsored by the Department of Higher Education, applications or the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University students began from June 6, 2025. In an official notice, the board informed that students who have passed the Higher Secondary Examination under the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE), Bhopal in 2025, and have secured more than 80th percentile should fill the online application only on the National Scholarship Portal for fresh scholarship. Students should apply for the scholarship only after carefully studying the guidelines available on the NSP portal. Special OTET cancelled hours before exam amid allegations of question papers leak
CUTTACK: The Special Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET)-2025, scheduled to be held on Sunday for in-service primary and upper primary school teachers across the state, was cancelled unexpectedly by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha amid allegations of a question paper leak. Sources said the examination was cancelled only a few hours before its commencement, leaving over 75,000 candidates in shock and dismay. 'The Special OTET-2025 (Paper-1 and Paper-2), which was scheduled to be held on July 20, is hereby postponed until further notification,' read the notice issued by BSE. The BSE also issued a letter to all centre superintendents, requesting them to hand over the sealed question packets to the messengers of the Board, who shall submit the same at the head office by July 21. Although the BSE has issued a notice announcing the cancellation of the examination, it has not cited any reason that prompted the decision to defer the test.
