Sleaford love seat lights up for Valentine's events
A love heart seat has been installed in Sleaford town centre as part of a series of events around Valentines Day. People can sit in the seat and take selfies, including in the evenings when it is lit up. Nearby businesses are giving out heart-shaped tags on which people can write messages to someone they love and hang them on the seat. The seat will be in Market Place until Monday 24 February.
The heart seat installation forms part of North Kesteven District Council's events programme, which is funded by the government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. It follows the WinterLight celebration in December, which officially welcomed people back into Market Place, following a £1m regeneration project. However, some businesses have criticised the scheme, which has resulted in a loss of parking spaces in the town centre. Richard Wright, the leader of North Kesteven District Council, said: "It's good to see the heart seat installation return to Sleaford, after it was first shown at the Riverside Precinct in 2023 and I look forward to seeing everyone enjoy it."A Valentine-themed day of free activities will be held on Saturday. It will include visits from the Queen of Hearts and Mad Hatter, caricature portrait drawings and performances from singer Chelsey Bamford. Handley Monument, on Southgate, will be lit up in red during the weekend. On 22 February, Market Place and St Denys' Church Hall will host a healthy heart event. Wright said the events "promise to be enjoyable and provide even more reason to visit the town centre and make a day of it".Listen to highlights from Lincolnshire on BBC Sounds, watch the latest episode of Look North or tell us about a story you think we should be covering here.

After a chance encounter on a train triggered a serious health scare, Spittle began an unexpected weight-loss journey—now the subject of this heartfelt and hilarious new show. Big explores what happens when the world treats you differently because of your body, and whether changing yourself can ever really be the answer. Spittle reflects on her experiences as a working-class fat girl trying to fit into a middle-class, mid-sized world. With her trademark mix of honesty and humour, she asks how much of ourselves we're willing to lose in order to feel accepted—and whether it's possible to love who you were as much as who you're becoming. All those who managed to beat the difficult challenge were entered into a draw for the chance to take home Kylie-themed prizes, including tour T-shirts, tote bags, necklaces, caps, and Tension vinyl records. Kathy Murdoch, centre director at Buchanan Galleries, said: "We love to enhance our visitors' experiences – whether they're shopping for an event, the next season's must-haves, or coming simply to soak up the atmosphere."
