Bahrain: Strategic boost to tourism sector
The project comprises multiple elements, including a luxury residential building, restaurants, retail outlets, a yacht club, and a marina.
The minister emphasised that Bahrain Marina represents an important addition to the kingdom's tourism infrastructure and contributes to diversifying entertainment and investment offerings.
This, she noted, supports the broader effort to develop the tourism sector and increase its contribution to the gross domestic product by providing integrated facilities that meet the expectations of citizens, residents, and visitors.
Ms Al Sairafi noted that the project, which has received the Golden Licence, serves as a model for investment in the tourism sector and is among Bahrain's strategic developments.
She highlighted the government's strong focus on projects that enhance the investment environment, attract new partnerships, and create promising opportunities for citizens, in addition to advancing economic development and bolstering Bahrain's competitiveness and standing on the regional and global tourism map.
She added that Bahrain Marina is one of the primary projects aligned with marine-front activities, a key pillar of the Tourism Strategy (2022-2026). Given Bahrain's attractive beaches and coastal character, these sites serve as a major draw for tourists, and developing them represents a direct investment in enhancing the visitor experience.
The minister also emphasised the importance of strengthening collaboration with partners in both the public and private sectors to ensure the sustainability and integration of tourism projects, contributing to the achievement of the key goals and performance indicators outlined in the strategy.
Bahrain Marina Development Company board chairman Reyadh Sater commended the strong support the project has received from various relevant entities.
He expressed pride in the progress made so far, noting that Bahrain Marina reflects an ambitious vision to enhance Bahrain's investment and tourism environment by offering an integrated setting that harmonises quality of life with advanced design and facilities.
The company's acting chief executive and head of project development Hisham Almoayyed underscored that Bahrain Marina represents a promising future for both residents and visitors, offering a modern lifestyle that combines comfort, innovation, and quality living.
He noted that its prime location along the waterfront in the heart of the capital positions it as an attractive and fully integrated tourism destination that reinforces Bahrain's standing on the regional tourism map.
Bahrain Marina is one of the kingdom's flagship development projects, spanning over 250,000sqm and featuring luxury residential units, a shopping complex, a yacht club, a world-class marina, hotel units, and green spaces, making it a fully integrated destination for living, investment, and leisure in the heart of Manama.

Apple to announce new $100bn investment in US manufacturing
Apple was set to announce plans on Wednesday to invest another $100 billion in US manufacturing, as the iPhone maker seeks to avoid President Donald Trump's tariffs. The new commitment would bring its total pledge to invest in the US to $600 billion over the next four years. The company pledged in February to invest $500 billion and hire 20,000 workers. The investment was also expected to include moving towards assembling more critical components in the US, Reuters reported, quoting a White House official. The announcement comes after Mr Trump threatened to hit the Big Tech giant with a 25 per cent tariff for making its flagship devices outside the US. Apple shares were 5.91 per cent higher at $214.92 during afternoon trading. In the company's earnings call last week, Apple chief Tim Cook told investors that it had taken a hit of about $800 million from tariff-related costs last quarter and about $1.1 billion this quarter. Mr Cook told analysts during the call that the 'vast majority' of iPhones sold in the US come from India. Most other Apple products such as MacBooks and iPads that are sold in the US are made in Vietnam, he said. 'We obviously try to optimise our supply chain,' Mr Cook said at the time. 'And ultimately, we will do more in the United States.' Apple had planned this year to switch its assembly for all US-destined iPhones from China to India to avoid the escalatory tariffs Mr Trump had placed on Beijing. During his visit to Qatar this year, Mr Trump said there was 'a little problem' with Apple and recalled a conversation he had with Mr Cook in which the President said he did not want the company building in India. India has lately been in Mr Trump's crosshairs. The President on Wednesday imposed a 25 per cent tariff on New Delhi for buying Russian oil. The new tariff, due to take effect in three weeks, comes on top of a previously announced 25 per cent tariff that was set to be implemented on Wednesday. Mr Trump has accused the country of indirectly or directly buying Russian oil. India condemned the latest action as 'unfair, unjustified and unreasonable'. It has been claimed that the policies of the Ethiopian government, which took control after deposing Emperor Haile Selassie in a military-led revolution in 1974, contributed to the scale of the famine. Dr Miriam Bradley, senior lecturer in humanitarian studies at the University of Manchester, has argued that, by the early 1980s, 'several government policies combined to cause, rather than prevent, a famine which lasted from 1983 to 1985. Mengistu's government imposed Stalinist-model agricultural policies involving forced collectivisation and villagisation [relocation of communities into planned villages]. The West became aware of the catastrophe through a series of BBC News reports by journalist Michael Buerk in October 1984 describing a 'biblical famine' and containing graphic images of thousands of people, including children, facing starvation. Band Aid Bob Geldof, singer with the Irish rock group The Boomtown Rats, formed Band Aid in response to the horrific images shown in the news broadcasts. With Midge Ure of the band Ultravox, he wrote the hit charity single Do They Know it's Christmas in December 1984, featuring a string of high-profile musicians. Following the single's success, the idea to stage a rock concert evolved. Live Aid was a series of simultaneous concerts that took place at Wembley Stadium in London, John F Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, the US, and at various other venues across the world. The combined event was broadcast to an estimated worldwide audience of 1.5 billion. Watch: Sheikh Mohammed waves at humanoid robot during live demonstration
When was the last time you saw a humanoid robot wave and walk towards you? Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, had an experience that not many residents get to have during a meeting with local dignitaries at the Union House in Dubai today, August 6. In a video posted by Wam, the leader could be seen waving back at the humanoid robot. The robot also showcased its speed by running inside the majlis as the dignitaries looked on. The robot was present as part of a live demonstration of the Unitree G1 by Dubai Future Labs. The lightweight, highly balanced robot mimics human movement and represents the latest in robotics and AI. Watch the clip below: It will soon be featured in the Museum of the Future's interactive displays, welcoming visitors and showcasing advanced technology, allowing residents and tourists to watch it in action too. The Unitree G1 is a humanoid robot that stands 130cm tall and weighs around 35kg. Its onboard computing includes an 8-core high-performance CPU, with sensory hardware like a depth camera, 3D LiDAR, microphone array, speaker, Wi‑Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.2. The robot runs for about two hours on a 13‑string lithium battery. Meeting at Al Mudaif Majlis During the gathering, Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the UAE's continued progress in building a distinctive development model based on openness, competitiveness, and support for entrepreneurship. He noted that the country's success stems from ambitious goals, a people-centred approach, and strong public-private partnerships. The Ruler also highlighted Dubai's vital role in the UAE's broader development journey, as it continues to strengthen its position as a leading global economic centre. Driven by investor confidence, market maturity, and its ability to attract top talent and opportunities, the emirate continues to advance the goals of Dubai Economic Agenda D33, he highlighted.

Dubai: Smart Nol card top-ups see 20% rise as less commuters rely on ticket machines
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced a 20 per cent increase in nol card top-up transactions through digital channels during the first half of 2025, compared to the same period in 2024. This reflects ongoing efforts to advance digital transformation in public transport services and enhance customer satisfaction. The authority explained that the improvements included the provision of digital machines for ticket sales and top-ups, public awareness initiatives encouraging the use of digital channels such as the website and mobile payment applications, in addition to raising the minimum top-up amount for nol cards through machines and ticket sales offices. Statistics showed a 28 per cent decrease in the total number of top-up transactions via ticket vending machines, while digital transactions via these machines increased by 20 per cent. Meanwhile, cash transactions at ticket sales offices declined by 37 per cent, and digital transactions by six per cent, resulting in an overall 26 per cent drop in transactions at ticket offices. The RTA affirmed that this shift contributed to shorter queues and lower operating costs related to cash handling, along with an 80 per cent decrease in vending machine malfunctions due to fewer cash-based transactions.
