Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka Assembly LoP accuses Congress Govt of ignoring police instructions

India Gazette2 days ago

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 8 (ANI): Karnataka Assembly Leader of Opposition (LoP) R Ashok on Sunday accused the Congress government in the State of disregarding police instructions, leading to the stampede tragedy outside Chinnaswamy Stadium during the RCB cricket team's IPL victory celebrations, which claimed 11 lives.
Addressing a press conference, Ashok alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar were more focused on their political power struggle than ensuring public safety. 'Had they acted responsibly, innocent students would not have lost their lives,' he said.
Ashok claimed that the police had informed the government about the first fatality by noon, yet the RCB event continued despite eight children already being dead. 'These leaders have hearts of stone,' he charged.
Ashok alleged that the Vidhana Soudha police had written to the Chief Secretary on June 4, warning that the event was hastily organised and security arrangements were inadequate due to staff shortages. The police had even recommended cancelling the event.
'While the Speaker suspended 18 BJP MLAs citing rule violations, the government itself has broken the law,' Ashok said.
Ashok also criticised the Chief Minister for claiming the event was not a government program despite official orders stating otherwise.
Ashok expressed outrage over the suspension of police officers managing traffic and station duties, while no action was taken against government officials.
He demanded a special legislative session to discuss the stampede and called for a High Court-monitored probe. 'Three inquiries have been ordered, but which one is genuine?' he questioned.
Asserting that the government should own up to its failures, Ashok said, 'If they are not guilty, they must provide Rs1 crore compensation to each victim's family.' He also announced that BJP legislators would donate one month's salary to the affected families.
Taking a dig at the Chief Minister, Ashok said, 'Winning trophies is not new, but no other state has seen such negligence for publicity.'
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with opposition parties and civil society demanding accountability from the government. (ANI)

Bid to revive J&K tourism: BJP leader plays cricket in Pahalgam; watch video

Screengrab PTI NEW DELHI: Jammu & Kashmir BJP leader Ravinder Raina on Tuesday played cricket with Pahalgam locals in a bid to revive normalcy in the Valley, which witnessed a sharp decline in tourism after the April 22 terrorist attack at Baisaran meadow. In the clip, the BJP leader was seen bowling and batting with the local kids of the Valley. The efforts are being made from several quarters to revive tourism in Kashmir as travel agents from across the country will converge in Kashmir this weekend to boost tourism in the Valley. The Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), which is one of the country's biggest umbrella organisations for agents with over 1,600 members, will be holding its meeting in Srinagar and Pahalgam from June 13-16 to instil confidence among the fraternity. Srinagar hotels and flights commanded a big premium before the Pahalgam attack as Kashmir was seeing unprecedented tourist footfalls post Covid. But after the April 22 attack, tourists already there left Kashmir in droves and those who had plans to visit cancelled the same. J&K is currently focussed on ensuring a safe Amarnath Yatra as they hope that will send out a message that tourists can return to Kashmir. The yatra duration has been curtailed to 38 days, instead of 52 days in 2024, and will be on between July 3 and August 9, 2025. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Address of Pride – Signature Global SPR Signature Global Book Now Undo A total of 581 companies from various Central Armed Police Forces, along with personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, will be deployed along the pilgrimage routes to ensure safety of the lakhs of pilgrims. The tourism industry in Kashmir has been badly hit since Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 civilians in Pahalgam on April 22. The attack sent a shockwave across the nation, prompting the government to take kinetic action against terror camps deep into Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The Indian forces, in a big action, destroyed the terror camps of Jaish and Lashkar located in Pakistan's Bahawalpur and Muridke.

Meghalaya Minister demands apology from families of Sonam, Raja Raghuvanshi for ‘tarnishing' State's image

Meghalaya Minister Alexander Laloo Hek on Tuesday (June 10, 2025) demanded an apology from the families of both Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi for allegedly 'tarnishing' the image of the State and its people, as the investigation is underway in the murder case. Speaking to ANI, Meghalaya Minister Alexander Laloo Hek said, 'We are thankful to the Meghalaya police for the breakthroughs in the ongoing investigation of the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. Now we are seeking an apology from Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi's families for tarnishing the image of Meghalaya and its people. We will file a case of defamation if they don't comply.' 'The accused will be brought here since the incident took place in the State. We do not have any issue if they want to hand over the case to the State police, central police or the probe agency, but the truth has already prevailed,' said the Minister. The family of Raja Raghuvanshi had earlier written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a CBI inquiry into the matter. Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife, Sonam, went missing during their honeymoon in the northeastern state. The couple was last seen on May 23. Later, on June 2, Raja's body was found in a gorge at Sohrarim near Cherrapunji in Meghalaya. Sonam Raghuvanshi was later found near a dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur main road. Sonam had allegedly hired killers to get rid of her husband during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, just days after their marriage in Indore, they said. Four of them have been arrested. Sohra tourist guide satisfied as police arrest suspects A local tourist guide who alerted police about the presence of three unidentified men accompanying newlyweds Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi on the day they went missing last month said he is satisfied that his information helped crack the case. Albert Pde, the guide at Mawlakhiat, told PTI, 'I am happy that the criminals are finally behind bars. We stand vindicated. Those who tried to tarnish the image of Sohra and its people as violent have now been exposed,' said a visibly relieved Pde. Mr. Pde had said he saw the couple accompanied by three male tourists as they were climbing over 3,000 steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat around 10 am on May 23. According to the guide, 'the four men, including Raja, were walking ahead while the woman was behind. The four men conversed in Hindi,' he said, admitting that he was not very conversant in the language. Mr. Pde had initially offered his services to walk them to Nongriat on May 22, but they politely refused and hired another guide identified as Bha Wansai, who dropped them at Shipara homestay.

"India witnessed transformative growth under PM Modi's 11-year leadership": Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 10 (ANI): As Prime Minister Narendra Modi completes 11 years in office, Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak said on Tuesday that India has seen transformative growth in sectors like infrastructure, space, and medical sciences, and credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for lifting 25 crore people out of poverty while advancing the vision of 'Integral Humanism' for a developed nation. Speaking to ANI, Pathak said, 'Over the past decade, India has witnessed a transformative shift across various sectors -- from infrastructure development to advancements in space and medical sciences. Nearly 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty. Reiterating his faith in the Prime Minister's leadership, the Deputy CM said, 'PM Modi has fulfilled the vision of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, who laid the foundation for 'Integral Humanism' as a guiding principle for a Viksit Bharat. Under the PM's leadership, the country is steadily progressing toward unprecedented growth and development.' Earlier today, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that India is the only economy in the world that has doubled in one decade. 'Before 2014, we were a fragile and unstable economy--India ranked 11th in the World. In the last 11 years, it has climbed and is now the fourth-largest economy in the world. When India was celebrating its 75th Independence Day, under the leadership of PM Modi, we surpassed Britain, the country which had ruled over India for almost 200 years... India is the only economy that has doubled in one decade,' said UP CM Yogi Adityanath as PM Modi completed 11 years in office. CM Yogi further said that governance is now based on everyone's satisfaction and appeasing no one; the country has witnessed this in 11 years. PM Modi first took oath as the Prime Minister of India on May 26, 2014, and is currently serving his third consecutive term. Marking the occasion, the Union government also released a comprehensive e-book detailing achievements across various sectors over the past 11 years. The year 2025 marks 11 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. The book said that these 11 years have been dedicated to bringing about development that is inclusive, progressive, and sustainable. 'The government under Prime Minister Modi has been steadfast in its commitment to creating equity and opportunity for all citizens,' it added. 'PM Modi has brought the politics of development - Vikasvaad - into the mainstream, making it the focal point around which political discourse and policy action now revolve,' it reads. The book said that since assuming office in 2014, PM Modi has remained firm in his resolve to keep 'India First' in every policy formulation and action. It added that the resolve is evident in the government's handling of both external and internal security, economic management, empowerment schemes for marginalised groups, efforts at cultural conservation and so on. Highlighting the government's steps in handling COVID-19, the book said, 'Prime Minister Modi's government has always believed in setting challenging targets and achieving them before the set deadline. This can be seen across sectors, whether it is in vaccinating the entire eligible population in record time against Covid-19, recording the nation's highest ever exports in history, in the digital revolution which is taking place across India, in achieving monumental targets for rural electrification, in building world-class infrastructure or in providing drinking water facilities across households. 'It emphasised that there has been a paradigm shift in public service delivery and the implementation of government schemes using the JAM Trinity - Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, and Mobile - in the last 11 years.'In the last 11 years, there has been a paradigm shift in public service delivery and the implementation of government schemes using the JAM Trinity - Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, and Mobile. JAM Trinity is the key enabler of India's transformed and well-developed digital landscape. It has removed intermediaries and permits direct transfer of benefits into an intended beneficiary's bank account.' Emphasising the government's action for conservation of the environment, it said, 'Under Prime Minister Modi, India has championed environmental protection globally, emerging as a leader of the movement. The United Nations declared June 21st as International Yoga Day, an acknowledgement of the global recognition of the heritage. It also mentioned Operation Sindoor, describing it as a demonstration of a new India--resolute, swift, and sovereign in action. 'India's assertion on the global stage has also undergone a remarkable evolution. The success of Operation SINDOOR demonstrated a new India--resolute, swift, and sovereign in action.' The book is a comprehensive compendium about India's transformation under PM Modi's 'visionary leadership across fourteen facets of policymaking, ranging from infrastructure to foreign policy to social justice'. The book has 14 chapters, highlighting developmental aspects in different social, technological and educational sectors. It also noted the government's efforts to lift the marginalised class and different sections of society. (ANI)
