Before 2017, Bareilly witnessed riots every few months; today, Nath Corridor defines its identity: CM Yogi
Highlighting Bareilly's transformation, the Chief Minister said that lakhs of devotees now participate in Jalabhishek at the Nath Corridor, which is emerging as the new identity of the city. During the program, CM Yogi also handed over appointment letters to over 6,000 youth selected through the Rozgaar Mela, and distributed certificates and tablets to beneficiaries of various welfare schemes.
Referring to the Kanwar Yatra, he added, "Some individuals had tried to insult public sentiments and defame the tradition, but the alertness of society and the state's strong law-and-order machinery foiled such efforts."
'The double-engine BJP government is committed to blending heritage with development. Bareilly, which once suffered frequent communal riots before 2017, is now gaining fame for the Nath Corridor and spiritual tourism,' he stated.
The Chief Minister emphasized that government schemes are now reaching every section of society without any discrimination based on caste, religion, or region. 'This is the new India, marching ahead with the mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. Bareilly is progressing rapidly, and the double-engine government is striving to ensure happiness, prosperity, and inclusive development,' he said.
CM Yogi informed that Bareilly has been gifted 545 development projects worth ₹2,264 crore. This includes the inauguration of 222 projects worth ₹1,258 crore and the laying of the foundation stone for 322 projects worth ₹1,004 crore.
Key projects include the Nath Corridor, flood protection measures, bridges, bypass roads, road widening works, a Unani Medical College, rural drinking water supply schemes, as well as projects under the Power Department and Municipal Corporation.
The Nath Corridor project will see the development of iconic temples such as Alakhnath, Tripathinath, Gopeshwarnath, and Pashupatinath into prominent centers of spiritual tourism.
During the event, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath handed over appointment letters to more than 6,000 youth selected through the Rozgaar Mela. Encouraging young individuals to take advantage of the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Yojana, he highlighted that under the scheme, eligible youth are being provided with collateral-free, interest-free loans—starting from ₹5 lakh, increasing to ₹7.5 lakh upon timely repayment, and further up to ₹10 lakh.
Taking a swipe at past regimes, CM Yogi Adityanath said that before 2017, government jobs were handed out like personal favours through 'uncle-nephew' networks and family ties. In sharp contrast, he noted, the current government has provided 8.5 lakh government jobs in the last eight years through a transparent, merit-based system — with over 12,000 posts secured by young women.
He appealed to public representatives to honor the selected youth and their families publicly to inspire others and foster a culture of aspiration. 'Earlier, jobs were limited to a select family. Today, opportunities are available to every deserving youth, without any discrimination,' he asserted.
Highlighting the law-and-order improvements, CM Yogi said, 'The state is now mafia-free and fear-free. Earlier, mafias used to be appointed district-wise; today, every district is being recognized for its progress—with initiatives like One District One Medical College and One District One Product.'
He emphasized that the double-engine BJP government is integrating heritage with modern development. 'Uttar Pradesh's infrastructure is being transformed through enhanced connectivity—via expressways, highways, metro projects, airports, and flyovers,' he noted.
Describing Bareilly as the sacred land of Lord Parshvanath, CM Yogi said that UP is the 'janmabhoomi and tapobhoomi' (birthplace and the place of enlightenment) of Lord Ram, Krishna, Buddha, and Jain Tirthankaras. 'We are preserving this spiritual heritage and integrating it with world-class infrastructure so that UP emerges as a leader not only spiritually and culturally but also economically.'
The Chief Minister inaugurated new projects, including the Ramganga Flood Protection, widening of Sanda Pal Marg, Unani Medical College, Municipal Corporation Office, Power Department Building, and Gas Conservation Projects, and also laid the foundation stone for several others.
CM Yogi also informed that, with central support, tourism development projects have been sanctioned for sites like Ramnagar Fort and Ahichhatra Parshvanath Digambar Jain Temple.
Reiterating the commitment to Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, he emphasized that development benefits are being delivered to all citizens without any discrimination. Referring to his meeting earlier that morning with public representatives of Bareilly division, he said that the priorities for future projects are being shaped by their suggestions. These initiatives will accelerate development in Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, and Budaun.
As a special gesture for women, CM Yogi announced free bus travel across the state on the occasion of Rakshabandhan (August 8, 9, and 10). This facility will be available in both city transport and UPSRTC buses, and will apply to women and their accompanying co-passenger.
Underscoring the importance of civic responsibility, he also announced a special cleanliness campaign to be held before Independence Day and Janmashtami.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has described the denial of appointment by President Draupadi Murmu to Telangana leaders on BC reservation issue as 'an insult to the State'. He said a plan of action would be initiated at Telangana Congress' Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting shortly in Hyderabad to put both BJP and BRS in the dock. He said MPs from both parties should explain why they failed to take part in the Mahadharna on August 6. Addressing a press conference along with his cabinet colleagues in New Delhi on Thursday, Revanth Reddy said that Telangana people were observing the actions of BRS and BJP and that the Congress was out to expose their behavior. Revanth Reddy said that a decision would be reached whether 42 per cent reservation be given within the party before the polls to local bodies or if there was other possible solution. He said local body elections would be held by September 30. He said that the argument that Rahul and Kharge did not come to Wednesday's dharna was 'meaningless'. 'If Kishan Reddy has doubts, I will arrange an official meeting and make him aware. The details of all castes have been collected and a caste census conducted,' Revanth Reddy said on questions raised by Kishan Reddy on caste survey. Revanth Reddy blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the denial of appointment by the President. 'They prevented us from getting an appointment. This is regrettable and painful and an insult to the people of Telangana,' he alleged. In a strong rebuke, the Chief Minister said that the BJP was obstructing the increase of BC quota proposed by the Telangana government on the pretext of Muslims being included in the BC quota. The Chief Minister clarified that the Telangana BC quota bills sent for President approval were not prepared on religion or caste lines. SC, ST and OBC quota were allocated en bloc in the elections to local bodies. Revanth explained that in 2017, a Muslim named Abdul Sattar was selected for IAS under the OBC quota in Rajasthan. BC reservations were provided for Noorbasha and others since 1971.

5 students from UP will head to UK to pursue master's degree each year
The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Thursday gave the go-ahead for a scholarship scheme for five meritorious students from the state to pursue master's degree at reputed universities in the United Kingdom every year, and setting up of three new private universities in Muzaffarnagar, Mathura and Barabanki districts. The decisions were taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow. The proposed scholarship programme, Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee-Chevening Uttar Pradesh State Government Scholarship Scheme in partnership with the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), will be rolled out for the next three years, and will cover the students' stay and travel for studying at top UK institutions of higher studies such as universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh, and the Landon School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). The scheme will be renewed or extended thereafter, state Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyaya said. The government has cleared the proposal to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the FCDO and the funding will be equally shared by the two, Upadhyaya added. The scheme will cover tuition, and scholarship fees, and round-trip economy class air fare, the minister said. The selection process of students for the scholarship programme will be conducted as per the MoU and the scheme will come into effect from the 2025-26 academic year. The scholarship will cost the state exchequer nearly £19,800 ( Rs 23 lakh) for each student and the state government has already cleared Rs 2 crore for the current financial year, it is learnt. The Cabinet granted an intent letter for the establishment of Vedanta University in Muzaffarnagar under the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act, 2019. The proposed university will be set up on 23 acres of land at Hussainpur Bopada village in Khatauli tehsil. The Cabinet also okayed the establishment of KD University in Mathura and Bodhisattva University in Barabanki under the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act, 2019, which regulates and facilitates the establishment and incorporation of private universities across the state. The Cabinet has cleared the promulgation of the 'Uttar Pradesh Private Universities (Third Amendment) Ordinance, 2025' to officially include the new university under the Act and issue it the operational licence. In another decision, the Cabinet approved the proposal to allow the use of funds of the Uttar Pradesh Finance Commission for distribution of flags under the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign on the occasion of Independence Day. Nearly 60 lakh national flags costing nearly Rs 12 crore will be distributed during the campaign, which began on August 2 and will continue till August 15. The flags will be made by women self-help groups (SHGs) associated with the State Urban Livelihoods Mission. It has also been decided to organise special cleanliness drives and other activities, called 'Swachh Nagari – Jhanda Nagari'. The Cabinet also approved the proposal to include a member each from the SC/ST and OBC communities into the working council of King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow. The appointments will be made on seniority basis and one person at a time on rotation basis. Funds for reviving 1750 hand-pumps, which have become defunct, were also given approval. In yet another decision, the Cabinet approved an amendment to Section 305(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1959, related to permissions and renewal durations for aerial signage and advertisements. The amendment proposes increasing the validity period for advertising licences from two years to 15 years. The new rule, to be implemented through the UP Municipal Corporation (Regulation of Signs and Advertisements) Rules, 2025, is expected to attract larger investments and innovations in the urban advertising sector. It will also reduce the frequency of tender processes and offer greater revenue stability for municipal corporations across the state. Following the Cabinet approval, the UP Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, will be promulgated to formalise this change. — With PTI input

His reaction comes following Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday accused the double-engine government of trying to take away the citizenship of people in the state. While addressing the public in Jhargram, "I am thinking, are we really independent? I hope our citizenship will not be snatched. Please don't deprive us" The Chief Minister alleged that the 'double engine government' is trying to push citizens into detention by falsely branding them as Rohingyas and attempting to push them back into Bangladesh. On Wednesday CM Banerjee said, "If genuine voters are removed from the voter list, then I will protest in the entire world. Malpua (BJP leader Amit Malviya) is demanding my arrest. Even if you come to arrest me or shoot me, I will keep protesting against the insult of the Bengali language." "There is an NRC conspiracy behind the ongoing SIR activity. In Assam, nearly seven lakh people have been removed from the voter list, which includes Hindu Bengalis. Notices are being sent in Cooch Behar and Alipurduar and Indian residents are being sent to Bangladesh. Not a single name should be excluded from the voter's list. Our two officers received notice from ECI regarding their suspension. There is no need to fear. Eight to nine months are left for the polls, but the BJP has started to suspend people from now itself. ECI is acting as the agent of the BJP," she said.
