Departmental exams to be held from today
He chaired a review meeting with officials from various departments at the DRO Conference Hall in the District Collectorate on Saturday to discuss the arrangements for the smooth conduct of the exams.
The exams will be held at the Rajiv Gandhi Group of Educational Institutions in Rajamahendravaram, with around 3,771 candidates expected to appear.
According to the DRO, objective-type exams will be held in two sessions from 10 am to 12 Noon and 3 pm to 5 pm. Conventional tests will be conducted from 10 am to 1 pm and again from 3 pm to 6 pm.
He directed officials to ensure all necessary measures are in place for the peaceful and smooth conduct of the exams. Entry into exam centres will be allowed one hour before the scheduled time.
Section 144 will be enforced near the exam venues, as per the instructions to Tahsildar.
Electricity department officials were advised to ensure uninterrupted power supply, while medical teams will set up camps at the exam centers with ORS packets and essential medicines available for candidates.
Officials from concerned departments and college managements were instructed to arrange for basic amenities, secure transportation of question and answer papers, and ensure adequate police security based on the number of candidates.
APPSC Assistant Secretary M Babar, Section Officer Ch Yogeswara Rao, and other departmental officials participated in the meeting.

The Tripura police launched a probe after a mob attacked a bus in the Sepahijala district Tuesday evening after a passenger allegedly molested a woman co-passenger inside the bus. One special police officer (SPO) and three passengers were injured in the attack, and the police filed a case at the local police station. The police said the mob attacked the passenger bus as soon as it reached a bus stand, and police personnel rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. He also said he had instructed the director general of police (DGP) to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. Speaking to reporters, he said, 'We are all part of society. There are the police, police stations and the legal system. Such incidents can happen at any time. What is required is to see if any action was taken after the incident. Many attempts are being made to give it a separate colour. I will tell them to refrain from doing so. The police have done their job. They reached the spot soon after the incident,' he said, adding that the alleged molestation and the mob attack were both wrong. 'I appeal for peace, and let me say one thing: violence never solves problems, it only divides people,' he added. SPOs are people appointed on an honorarium basis to assist regular police forces. SPOs were initially inducted to assist the police force in combating insurgency. Currently, they are deployed to maintain law and order.

Farmers' protest continues over unresolved C&D land issues
Madikeri: The govt has failed to resolve the issue of Section-4 and C and D land, which has disturbed the peace of farmers, the Farmers' Agitation Committee said, announcing Somwarpet bandh on Aug 11. At a meeting organised by the Farmers' Agitation Committee at the Vokkaligara Community Hall, president KB Suresh explained the C and D land issue, the struggle conducted so far on Section-4 issues, and the legal proceedings. The govt is secretly handing over agricultural land to the forest department and is working to mislead the people, he alleged. The committee has been conducting agitation related to C and D land, Section 4, Section-5 of the forest department, and the govt's attention has been drawn to the problems. He said that the protest was continued through the law, but to no avail. So far, a silent protest was held peacefully. Appeals were submitted to the officials concerned, chief minister and ministers, and the seriousness of the problem was explained. However, no positive response was received, he contended. On Aug 11, a protest will be held in front of the DC office at Madikeri too. The protest will continue until the govt takes action regarding C and D land, Section-4 and Section-5, which is a question of the extinction and survival of farmers. He said that everyone in all the villages should join hands in this regard and prepare for the next fight. Derogatory remarks against Amit Shah: Rahul Gandhi to appear before Jharkhand court on August 6
RANCHI: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Rahul Gandhi, will appear before the MP-MLA Special Court in Chaibasa on Wednesday, in a defamation case registered against him for an alleged objectionable remark against Union Home Minister Amit Shah in 2018. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived in Ranchi on Monday to attend the last rites of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren. After paying his respects in Soren's native village, Nemra, Gandhi returned to Ranchi and will proceed to Chaibasa on Tuesday to appear before the MP-MLA Court as directed by the Jharkhand High Court on June 10. The High Court had earlier dismissed Gandhi's plea challenging a non-bailable warrant issued by the Chaibasa court, which had ordered his personal appearance by June 26. Gandhi's counsel had sought an exemption under Section 205 of the CrPC, but the court rejected the request, insisting on his physical presence. Following this, Gandhi approached the High Court, where his lawyer argued that scheduling conflicts prevented an earlier appearance. After consultations, August 6 was agreed upon as a suitable date for the hearing. The legal trouble stems from a 2018 speech during an AICC plenary session in New Delhi, where Gandhi allegedly referred to BJP leaders as "murderers" and "liars." He had stated, 'The people of this country will never accept a lying BJP leadership drunk with power… They will accept a man accused of murder as BJP President, but the same won't be tolerated in Congress.' A BJP worker, Pratap Kumar, filed a complaint in Chaibasa's Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in July 2018, prompting the court to take cognizance in February 2022. Summons were issued to Gandhi, followed by a bailable warrant after he failed to appear. With his continued absence, a non-bailable warrant was eventually issued in May 2025.
