Just days after making her surprise debut at AEW All In: Texas, Japanese wrestling superstar Syuri has delivered an unfortunate update on her health.
The former IWGP Women's Champion has announced that she is set to undergo elbow surgery, which will halt the momentum from her highly anticipated arrival.
In a post to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, Syuri broke the news to her fans. She confirmed that the injury has been bothering her for some time.
An Unfortunate Update For AEW Star
Syuri's AEW debut was a major moment, but her journey in the company will be put on pause before it can truly begin. Her announcement came just three days after she appeared at the All In pay-per-view.
"I'm having surgery this month on my elbow, which has been hurting for a while!!" she wrote in her post.
The timing of the surgery is a tough setback. It comes just as she was being introduced to a massive new audience in North America.
Syuri is widely regarded as one of the best professional wrestlers in the world. She made a name for herself as a top star in Japan's premier women's promotion, Stardom. During her time there, she held both the World of Stardom Championship and the IWGP Women's Championship, establishing herself as a dominant main event talent.

A Shocking And Celebrated AEW Debut
After departing Stardom in June, Syuri's next move was a mystery. A vignette hyping her arrival aired during the Ring of Honor Supercard of Honor event on Friday, July 11th.
The next night, she made her shocking AEW debut as a surprise entrant in the Women's Casino Gauntlet Match at All In: Texas inside Globe Life Field. Although she did not win the match, her appearance received a huge reaction from the live crowd and generated significant buzz online.
While fans will now have to wait to see her compete in a singles match, her debut still marks a major moment for AEW. The entire wrestling community now wishes her a full and speedy recovery.

Shelter Kitten Watched Siblings Get Adopted—Days Later, Everything Changed

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. After adopting two kittens from a local rescue, a couple couldn't stop thinking about the one sibling left behind, so they immediately went back for him. A viral Reddit post shared on Wednesday under the username u/EvergreenHulk, shows the newest addition to the couple's home, a small tabby kitten with big green eyes. The caption says: "We left him at the shelter Friday when we adopted his brothers. We returned and brought Loki home today." The poster, Mark, told Newsweek that they were a four-cat home until they lost their 14-year-old girl Max in April 2024, and then her brother Baloo at 16 years old in May 2025, so he and his wife decided it was time to rescue some new kitties. "Last week, my wife saw a Facebook post from the Friends of Montcalm County Animal Control. They had three male kittens left from a litter of five to adopt. She wanted to go see a kitten, and, at our appointment on Friday, we agreed we were going to adopt Sprite," Mark said. However, while the couple were meeting the kitten, his brother kept demanding attention from the poster's wife and climbing on her leg, so they also adopted Frodo and became a four-cat house again. "Almost immediately, we regretted leaving one kitten behind. We discussed that, if no one had adopted him in two weeks, we would reach out again. But we are such softies for kitties that we barely made it through the weekend," Mark said. "My wife called the shelter again on Monday and made an appointment to pick up the last kitten Tuesday after work. As soon as he got back with his brothers, it was like they had never been separated," Mark added. "They have been snuggling, playing, and wrestling for the last day. It's been a blast to see them all back together. Our biggest regret is making him be all alone for those four days." Adopting animals from shelters has never been more important. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) says that almost 3 million homeless cats entered U.S. shelters in 2024, and, of those, only 2.2 were adopted. About 362,000 were returned to their owner or the field, and, of those left, 369,000 were transferred to other organizations, and another 273,000 were euthanized. Animals in shelter are often euthanized for lack of space, because intake numbers are higher than available spots. Adopting an animal from a shelter will not only save their life, but will also make space to host another homeless pet, which may otherwise be euthanized. One user, AffectionateMemory82, commented: "No kittens left behind! I love this. Congratulations Loki and your brothers! Is one of them named Thor by chance?" RolandLWN posted: "I did that, and went back twice until I'd adopted the entire litter of five. I started out adopting two, then felt bad about their two siblings left behind so I went back for another two. "Then a month later someone returned the fifth one who had been adopted before I adopted the two sets. I was thrilled to be able to go and get her and bring her home to her four siblings! And she knew them immediately!" Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share? A TikTok video by the groom, Adam Arnaout, revealing the vows has gone viral with more than 1.4 million likes. In it, he shares his meticulously crafted speech from eight years of secret note-taking. Arnaout, 30, told Newsweek about the quotes he collected from his now-wife over the years and how he leveraged them in the ceremony. "I spent eight years writing down quotes from my fiancee for our vows. It paid off," he captioned the video. He began by revealing the incredible length of his dedication: "For the last, and this is real, I counted, 2,857 days, I've kept a running list of your most unintentionally hilarious quotes in something that I call 'the notes.'" "I once told you I love you, and you said, 'I love chicken nuggets,'" Arnaout said. Even everyday moments provided comedic gold for the groom's secret list. He remembered her saying, "'I'm a cinematographer' while eating a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch.'" Arnaout said that he started "the notes" soon into their relationship. "I began 'the notes' less than a month after we started dating back in 2017," he told Newsweek. "Since that first day, I have added hundreds more." Arnaout's inspiration was simple: "[It] came from an overwhelming desire to preserve the hilarious things that Sid had said to me," he said, adding that laughter is fundamental to their bond. "She and I are both extremely goofy and silly people, so having a ton of laughs is a foundational part of our relationship," Arnaout said. "I thought, 'Wow, this woman is hilarious, I am going to want to remember these one-liners,' and thus, the notes were born." Arnaout has continued adding to it, with hundreds of entries, and is now sharing them on his TikTok. His wife's reaction to the surprise during the vows was one of pure delight. "I think Sid was flooded with joy and happiness when I began reading … as it showed how much I cherish her humor and enjoy all the silly things she has said over the course of our relationship," Arnaout said. He added that this unique tradition perfectly encapsulates their relationship. "The tradition of documenting her sayings in 'the notes' is a great representation of who we are as a couple and illustrates what has allowed us to have such a successful relationship," Arnaout said. "Tough times and situations are inevitable in life, but Sid and I know that we are lucky enough to be with a partner who will continue to make us laugh and exude positive energy, no matter what. Signing up for a lifetime of laughter and joking around was the easiest decision that I have ever made."

Peggy McMaster This week's Pet of the Week winner couldn't be any more relatable. Many people will shudder in disgust at the sound of another person sneezing and coughing. And as one owner learned, dogs aren't fans of germs either. Owner Peggy McMaster began noticing her dog becoming a bit annoyed whenever she sneezed, coughed or cleared her throat. McMaster shared a video with Newsweek that shows her golden retriever giving her the biggest side-eye as she coughed. Grossed out by the sounds, the dog looked at her with disapproval. "My dog acts like I have the plague!" she said. Finalists Photo of two cat siblings touching paws in a precious brotherly moment. Yash Mehta Our first finalist for this week comes from Yash Mehta, as Mehta's two pet cats, Coco Junior and Muffy, captured our hearts during their precious bonding moment. In Mehta's photo, Muffy, the white cat, was lounging on the couch with his head on the armrest. Down on the ground was the orange cat, Coco Junior. Mehta happened to catch the moment these two cats were looking longingly at each other, which ended with a gentle tap of each other's paws. Mehta called it a "brotherhood scene." And with her 3-month-old pup, Leticia Fernandez couldn't resist dressing her up. Fernandez decided to buy her Yorkshire terrier, Zoe, bow ties to put in her long fur. She pulled the fur up, out of her eyes and separated them into parts. She placed the blue hair clips on each section and snapped a picture. "Funny, it seemed like she stuck her tongue at me after putting the hair clips on her," she told Newsweek. Zoe beamed with pride as she rocked her new accessories. Van Es Finally, what is a dog without their favorite toy? April G. Van Es shared a photo of the family's beloved dog, Kimball. In the picture, Kimball is sitting on a chair, enjoying the outside with his toy in his mouth. But it's not a soft, plush toy he can snuggle. Instead, he's head over paws for the Frisbee. The orange Frisbee is bigger than his face, but he holds onto it for dear life. The edges push out his lip flaps, almost appearing uncomfortable. But Kimball doesn't mind. It's his favorite.
