LAHAD DATU: Three Indonesian nationals were arrested here on Tuesday in two separate drug operations that also led to the discovery of a homemade air rifle. Acting district police chief Supt Jimmy Panyau said the first suspect, a 35-year-old man detained at Ladang Sebrang, tested positive for drugs and was found with 5.4g of syabu worth RM594. Later the same day, two more suspects, aged 40 and 41, were nabbed outside a house in Ladang Bagahak 3, with one caught carrying 5.07g of syabu and the other linked to an air rifle hidden on the porch. Both men also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, with all three suspects now under investigation for drug and firearm offences. Mention of inquest today

Counsel Hamid Ismail, representing the victim's mother, Noraidah Lamat, 45, confirmed the matter saying they had been notified by the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC). The AGC, in a statement last Wednesday, said an inquest would be conducted into Zara Qairina's death after reviewing the investigation report submitted by the Royal Malaysia Police. Zara Qairina was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital, Kota Kinabalu, on July 17, a day after she was found unconscious in a drain near her school dormitory at about 4am. The inquest will focus on establishing the cause and circumstances of Zara Qairina's death, including whether any criminal elements were involved. He advised Sabah authorities to step up the necessary actions to enhance the state's tourism image. 'Following a two-day joint sea and land enforcement operation, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture held a meeting with the Sabah Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment and relevant enforcement agencies to address tourism safety issues, illegal operations and enforcement in Sabah. 'In that meeting, I raised several serious weaknesses regarding tourism safety in Sabah, where the safety of tourists is seen as insufficiently protected,' he said in a statement. According to him, statistics showed between 2023 and July 2025, Sabah recorded several tourism-related accidents that caused multiple deaths and injuries. 'In 2023 alone, there were 14 incidents resulting in six deaths and nine injuries; in 2024, 11 incidents with nine deaths and 28 injuries; while in 2025, up to July, there were 23 incidents with two deaths and two injuries. 'These frequent accidents highlight weak safety management and regulatory oversight, which undermine travellers' confidence and damage Sabah's international tourism reputation,' he said. Tiong said during the two-day operation, he personally led officers from the Tourism Licensing and Enforcement Division and Immigration Department, police and other agencies on inspections around Tawau. He said the operation revealed widespread illegal practices, including overloaded tour buses without tour guides; foreigners renting local licences and operating behind the scenes; foreign divers working illegally; non-tourism vehicles carrying passengers; and boats operating with approval. Russia strikes Kharkiv with ballistic missile, injures 11, Ukraine says
KHARKIV (Reuters) -Russia hit a residential area in Kharkiv with a ballistic missile, injuring at least 11 people, Ukrainian authorities said late on Sunday, as the U.S. president presses Kyiv to accept a quick deal to end the war that Moscow had started. Among the injured in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, was a 13-year-old girl, Oleh Synehubov, governor of the broader Kharkiv region said on the Telegram messaging app. Kharkiv, which lies in northeastern Ukraine near the border with Russia, has been the target of regular Russian drone and missile attacks since the start of the war that Moscow launched with a full-scale invasion in February 2022. "The blast wave shattered windows in nearby apartment buildings," Ukraine's State Emergency Service said on Telegram. It added that some residents had to be evacuated. Reuters' witnesses saw medics attending to residents on a street and rescuers inspecting damage in residential buildings. A 57-year-old woman was injured in Russia's guided aerial bomb strike on the northeastern region of Sumy that also damaged at least a dozen residential houses and an educational institution building, regional authorities said. "The enemy continues to deliberately target civilian infrastructure in the Sumy region — treacherously, at night," Oleh Hryhorov, head of the regional administration in Sumy, said on Telegram. Reuters could not independently verify what weapons Russia used. There was no immediate comment from Moscow. Both sides deny targeting civilians in their strikes, but thousands of people have died, the vast majority of them Ukrainian. President Donald Trump, who hosted President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday for bilateral talks aimed at ending the war, has urged Kyiv to make a deal with Moscow, stating, "Russia is a very big power, and they're not."
