"Superman" has had a strong outing as the first live-action film of the new DCU under James Gunn. The film has grossed over $579 million at the global box office, according to BoxOfficeMojo.

The $331 million that "Superman" grossed domestically beats out "Man of Steel," which grossed $291 million. Simply put, Gunn's first foray with the Last Son of Krypton is a hit.
Now, Gunn is set to build out his DCU even more. The current DC landscape is without its Batman, which is set to be showcased in "The Brave and the Bold."
That is not to be confused with DC Elseworlds Batman, which is portrayed by Robert Pattinson and is under the direction of Matt Reeves. Batman is the more popular character in terms of live-action films, and even "Superman" star David Corenswet knows it.

A new behind-the-scenes video from "Superman" shared by ComicBook showcases Corenswet getting ready to film, and engaging in a Batman chant. He also states how badly he wants to be in the "Batman film."
'1, 2, 3, BATMAN! ….I'm just trying to end up in that movie. I REALLY wanna be in that movie 🤞' -David Corenswet pic.twitter.com/8W0uvrIUO1 — ComicBook.com (@ComicBook) August 12, 2025
""1, 2, 3, BATMAN! ....I'm just trying to end up in that movie. I REALLY wanna be in that movie 🤞," Corenswet states in the clip.
Now, it would be believed that Corenswet is actively trying to pitch his way into "The Brave and the Bold," but he might also be campaigning to have a role in "The Batman 2."
The issue with the latter would mean that Pattinson would end up being the DCU's Caped Crusader, which might confuse everyone. The safer bet could mean that Corenswet wants to be in the new "Batman" film that will fully belong to the DCU.
Gunn has already begun to showcase his DCU in shows and movies. The Suicide Squad introduced the world to Amanda Waller, Bloodsport, Peacemaker, and more.
Peacemaker has his own show, and the second season is set for release very soon. The "Creature Commandos" were also introduced in animated form, but the idea is that the voice actors will also play their live-action counterparts.
"Superman" helped bring in Mister Terrific, Guy Gardner's Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl, and the upcoming "Lanterns" show is set to bring in Hal Jordan.
Gunn is slowly but surely bringing in characters that are sure to intertwine in his grand universe. With many characters appearing in "Superman" that are guaranteed for other properties, it would not be shocking that Corenswet appears in the DCU "Batman" film.
Considering the ties that Batman and Superman have in the comics, along with previous live-action iterations, the pair is surely going to be fighting side-by-side very soon. How soon has yet to be divulged.

Teen With Down Syndrome Visits Store Alone, Tears Over What Dad Sees

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A video of a teenager with Down syndrome going into a store alone has racked up 16 million views on Instagram. The wholesome footage, shared by proud parents Kimberly and Devon DowDell, 47, shows their 14-year-old son completing a task that "might not seem like a big deal" to others, according to the caption. But to Jack—who has a genetic condition whereby a person has an extra chromosome—buying a drink on his own meant everything, as seen in the video. Newsweek spoke to his mom, who lives in Utah. She said: "As his parents, it can be hard for us because we want him to be independent, but we worry and find ourselves wanting to hover." Two screenshots from the viral video showing Jack in the shop and putting his thumb up in the car. Two screenshots from the viral video showing Jack in the shop and putting his thumb up in the car. Instagram/@thekimberlydowdell This is exactly what his dad did when Jack was in the store—spied from outside and filmed him through the window. Despite their worries, Jack always proves his parents wrong. DowDell told Newsweek: "Jack teaches us every day about how to smile through life and to feel excitement and joy through even the smallest things like getting a Slurpee!" The August 5 video shows Jack sitting in the back of the car while his dad hypes him up and goes over what he must do. DowDell told Newsweek that they practiced several times before leaving him to his own devices. "We also practiced having him pay with us by his side and he did well, so we knew he was ready to go alone, but were still very nervous for him," she said. "This video captured the very first time he did this on his own. Now that he's done it once, he's excited to do it on his own every time." At the end of the clip, Jack can be seen enthusiastically calling his mom to tell her about his milestone. The heartwarming video has resonated widely, racking up 1.1 million likes and a whopping 33,500 comments. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says Down syndrome can affect how a person's brain and body develop, but that doesn't mean those with it can't live a healthy and happy life. As demonstrated by Jack. "This is a huge deal! It made my heart so happy!" said one user, while another wrote: "We're all rooting for you Jack." "My daughter with Down syndrome just turned one. I can't wait for the moment of pride she has when she picks up a Slurpee for herself (and maybe grabs me a coffee too)," shared a third user. "If you need me I'll be in my car crying. Proud stranger," said a fourth user.

Keen to see where the DCU will go after Superman? Well, James Gunn says you'd better (conveniently) tune in to Peacemaker season 2

Superman might have kicked off the DCU, the newly revamped superhero franchise, but it'll be Peacemaker season 2 that really sets things up, James Gunn has revealed. "It's a big part, definitely Superman leads directly into Peacemaker; it should be noted that this is for adults, not for children, but Superman leads into this show and then we have the setting up of all of the rest of the DCU in this season of Peacemaker, it's incredibly important," Gunn recently told The Hollywood Reporter. Gunn, who now co-heads DC Studios with Peter Safran, went on to tease "lots of guest stars" in the fresh batch of episodes, including characters we've already met in Superman. "I don't think there's anything that I've ever done that I love more than this season of Peacemaker, so I'm so excited for people to see it," he concluded. Later at the superhero show's premiere in New York, Cena, who plays the eponymous Chris Smith, echoed Gunn's sentiments, suggesting that Peacemaker season 2 is very much "about furthering the narrative." He added: "Instead of standalone properties, all of the DCU is now [linked], as you saw Peacemaker show up in Superman. I think what you see in season two is just a forward of that narrative. That whole DCU throughline – it takes the 11th Street Kids through their next adventure, but it also has a lot to do with the DCU going forward." As Gunn points out, there is a little snag when it comes to the DCU's newfound connectivity, though: while the Man of Steel's reintroduction on the big screen was kid-friendly, the John Cena-led TV series only caters to an older audience with its R-rating. Just how integral to following the unfolding saga is Peacemaker season 2 going to be going forward? If a large majority of those who saw Superman can't (technically) watch it? We'll just have to wait and see. Peacemaker season 2, which'll see a vengeful Rick Flagg Sr. target the titular character for killing his son in The Suicide Squad, premieres on HBO and HBO Max on August 21.
