Driver broke man's leg in 'senseless violence'
Ashley Sherred, of Southampton Road in Salisbury, mounted the curb and hit the resident on 10 May, breaking the man's leg.
The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving at a court hearing on Thursday at Salisbury Crown Court.
Trainee Det Con Dan Smith said: "This was a senseless act of violence that left the victim with significant injuries, and it could have been a lot worse."
Sherred was remanded in custody ahead of his sentencing on 8 August.
On the day of the incident, he was seen driving a blue Ford Fiesta erratically in Pinewood Close.
He left the scene after hitting his victim, but was found by Wiltshire Police later that day and arrested. His car was found the following day.
"I hope this guilty plea begins to bring some sense of closure to the victim and his family and that this sends a clear message that we will not tolerate this type of violence in Wiltshire," Trainee Det Con Smith added.

Man, 29, jailed after 90mph police pursuit
A man who led police on a 90mph chase through a town centre has been jailed for a year. Reuben Brown, 29, narrowly missed an officer on foot during the pursuit, before driving the wrong way around roundabouts and crashing into a garden wall. Brown, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without insurance – while wanted on recall to prison – at Swindon Magistrates Court in Wiltshire on 2 August. He has now been jailed, disqualified from driving for 17 months and told he must pass an extended test before returning to the road. On August 1, at around 04:15 BST, Wiltshire Police was alerted to a car on the M4 eastbound potentially being driven illegally. The black Seat Arona, being driven by Brown, left the motorway and was stopped by police on the A3102 just outside Swindon. Two officers approached his car on foot, at which point Brown mounted the pavement to escape. He was pursued through Swindon, reaching speeds of up to 90mph, and onto Marlborough Road, where he attempted to turn onto Downs View Road, but misjudged the corner and hit a garden wall. He then took off on foot shortly before being caught by officers. 'Incredibly dangerous' Roads policing officer PS Mike Benson said: "Brown's driving was incredibly dangerous and put his own life, the life of our officers and members of the public in danger. "Following his arrest, he was very swiftly processed through the courts system and sentenced the following day. Restaurant slapped with closure order after concerns about 'loitering'
A Swindon restaurant has been slapped with a months-long closure order following reports of anti-social behaviour and drug use. Peri Peri Café, on Manchester Road in the centre of Swindon, was hit with the closure order, Wiltshire Police confirmed on Friday, August 15. Police say they pursued the order after residents and businesses came to them with concerns about large gatherings at the establishment, including loitering in the alleyway. Posting on the Swindon Police Facebook page on Friday, August 15, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: 'We have secured a three-month closure order on the Peri Peri Café on Manchester Road, Swindon, following reports of antisocial behaviour and drug use in and around the premises. 'We acted upon local residents and businesses' concerns around the impact of large gatherings of people throughout the day and night at the premises, particularly loitering in the alleyway. 'The work is part of our ongoing multi-agency work in Broadgreen to make the area safer for all.' As reported by this paper in November last year, three shops and a residential property on a busy town centre road have been shut by police after officers seized illegal vapes, tobacco and alcohol worth more than £55,000. Interim closure orders are currently in place on Kubus Polski Sklep, Istanbul Market, Romanian and Polish Shop, and house number 145 on Manchester Road, following a series of warrants carried out by police and HMRC and Trading Standards teams at the addresses on Tuesday afternoon. Other unrelated incidents have also occurred on Manchester Road this year. Earlier this month, the Swindon Advertiser reported that residents had raised concerns about Manchester Road in Swindon after two neighbouring shops were closed within a month after being hit with rodent issues. Shinwari Kebab, located at 52 Manchester Road, was served a notice of closure by Swindon Borough Council on Thursday, June 5, after a customer who believed they had contracted food poisoning contacted them with concerns about rats, flies and cockroaches in the premises. When food safety officer Ms Essam visited the shop, she recorded a strong smell of pest urine, urine stains were visible on food containers and walls, a bag of potatoes left on the floor had been gnawed, and large gaps provided access for rats to roam freely. Reverends attacked at knifepoint while helping homeless in town centre
Two church members in Swindon have reportedly been attacked at knifepoint while out supporting the homeless in the early hours of the morning. On Thursday, August 14, at around 2:45am, Father Mark Paris Haines and Reverend Torcato of the Old Catholic Apostolic Church were patrolling Commercial Road in the town centre, as part of their efforts to support homeless people in the community. They say that a group of four youths on pushbikes suddenly came over to them, with Father Paris Haines attacked first with a direct punch to the face. Father Haines attempted to restrain his attacker, but he punched him again. Meanwhile, Rev Torcato was approached by one of the suspects, who was dressed in all black with a facemask on, who also punched her and brandished a knife. A statement issued by the Church reads: "This alarming act of violence has raised serious concerns about safety in our community. It also stresses the urgent need for better protective measures for those who dedicate their lives to serving the vulnerable and the homeless. "Community workers like Father Paris Haines and Rev Torcato play a crucial role in our society. Yet, they often work in environments where risks are part of the job. Now more than ever, we must ensure that these dedicated individuals can carry out their mission safely." They have issued an urgent appeal to secure sponsorship for Hi-Viz jackets, stab jackets for volunteers and radio support to ensure they can continue helping others safely. The statement says that Rev Torcato was left "not only physically shaken but emotionally rattled" after being attacked for no apparent reason. It adds: "The incident involving Father Mark Paris Haines and Rev Torcato serves as a wake-up call for the community. By recognizing the risks that community workers face and taking meaningful action, we can cultivate a safer environment for everyone. On Thursday, August 14, the force appealed for information after a man in his 20s was robbed of his wallet at knifepoint by two male suspects at around 4am the same morning in an alleyway near 47/48 Akers Way.. The two incidents are not believed to be connected.
