This past week, the New Orleans Saints have recently honored two iconic football players. They announced on June 12, 2025 that Tracy Porter and Brett Maxie were inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame.
They both were very relevant in two different chapters of the franchise's history. Tracy Porter is most famously known for his game winning interception in Super Bowl XLIV, while Brett Maxie was part of that 1987 team and contributed to the team's first playoff appearance. The recognition will take place in Week 15 of the season during a home game against division rival Carolina Panthers.

That single play made Tracy Porter a hometown legend. 'We'll always remember what he did on the biggest stage,' said Ken Trahan, the Saints Hall of Fame director. Though Tracy Porter started 39 of the 43 games he played, it was that one play that placed him in team history forever.
Brett Maxie helped the New Orleans Saints reach their first playoffs
Playing for the New Orleans Saints from 1985-1993, Brett Maxie was a safety and not averse to hitting people. He pried the ball from the hands of opposing quarterbacks 15 times in nine seasons and he became a dependable defender.
One of the epic defensive plays on his resume was made in 1987 when Brett Maxie made a fourth-down stop against the Pittsburgh Steelers late in the season.
This stop secured the New Orleans Saints a winning record, their first in franchise history, and a spot in the playoffs. There were years of work, consistency and leadership that made Brett Maxie a vital part of the New Orleans Saints.
Two others will also be honored. Steve Gleason, known for his brave health battle, will get the Courage Award. Also, late sportscaster Ed Daniels will be given the Joe Gemelli 'Fleur de Lis' Award for his longtime work covering the team.

'F**k the Bruins': Brad Marchand's Stanley Cup heroics with Panthers reignite backlash over Bruins trade decision

Brad Marchand's Stanley Cup victory with the Florida Panthers has intensified criticism of the Boston Bruins' decision to release him (Getty Images) Brad Marchand's journey from being the face of the Boston Bruins to lifting the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers has sparked renewed debate—and outright criticism—about the Bruins' decision to let him go. At 37, Marchand played a pivotal role in Florida's playoff run, proving not only that he still has gas in the tank but also that Boston may have misjudged the value of one of their most iconic leaders. Brad Marchand proves his worth in Florida after emotional departure from Boston The veteran winger, Brad Marchand scored 10 goals and tallied 20 points in just 23 playoff games. His short-handed breakaway in Game 2 and the double-overtime game-winner solidified his clutch reputation and made his presence impossible to ignore. Reflecting on his exit from Boston, Marchand had said, 'It was very disappointing that things didn't get done just because, obviously, I love the organization. I wanted to stay there. But at the end of the day… every player has a shelf life regardless if that's when we want it to be or not.' Criticism of Bruins management erupts as Marchand leads Panthers to glory Marchand's postseason brilliance has triggered sharp reactions from fans and former players alike. On the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, Paul Bissonnette didn't mince words: 'That's why Brad Marchand... I don't know why Boston didn't just give him the fucking 7 million per with the way he played. So fuck the Bruins for doing that.' Co-host Ryan Whitney chimed in, saying, 'Don Sweeney, what are you doing?... he's your captain, a legend. Why did they betray him?' Their comments reflect a growing sentiment that the Bruins made a colossal error by prioritizing cap flexibility or a potential rebuild over loyalty and leadership. Florida GM Bill Zito praised Marchand's seamless integration into the team: 'As impactful as they are on the ice… you wouldn't have been able to tell that those were the new guys... that speaks volumes.' Zito also hinted at wanting to keep the core intact, including Marchand, who clearly gelled both on and off the ice. India start new era without Kohli and Rohit against England

London: Shubman Gill will be in the spotlight as a new-look India, without star batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma , bid to end their 18-year wait for a Test series win in England. Gill succeeded Rohit as captain after the latter announced his retirement from Test cricket last month. Just days later, Kohli said he was bowing out of red-ball internationals as well. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like I lost my wife, now my son is in danger, please help him! Donate For Health Donate Now Undo Gill also has the additional responsibility of filling Kohli's shoes at number four in the batting order. India vice-captain Rishabh Pant on Wednesday revealed that was where his new skipper would bat in the first of a five-Test series against England starting at Headingley on Friday. Live Events The 25-year-old Gill has a modest Test batting average of 35 in 32 matches, a figure that drops to 29 in away games and declines even further to under 15 in three matches in England. India's number four position has been dominated during the past three decades by all-time batting great Sachin Tendulkar and Kohli, who in that specific position scored 21,056 runs between them in 278 Tests. Gill's first challenge will be ensuring the demands of captaincy don't detract from his batting in England, where India have won just three Test series -- in 1971, 1986 and 2007. Thus far Gill has made all the right noises, saying last month: "I believe in leading by example -- not just by performance, but, I think, off the field by discipline and hard work." He will have the ebullient Pant to lean on after the wicketkeeper-batsman's return from a life-threatening car crash in 2022, while opener Yashavsi Jaiswal is one of the game's rising stars. But it is not just in batting where India -- who have had limited warm-up time in England -- must cope without stalwart performers. Jasprit Bumrah is arguably the best all-format bowler in world cricket at present but, following a back injury lay-off, the quick may only play in three of the five Tests given the tight schedule. Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has retired from Test cricket, while experienced Mohammed Shami, not fully fit following ankle surgery last year, has been omitted. - 'They have enough ammunition' - If there are concerns about India's ability to take the 20 wickets they need to win a match, those doubts apply to England as well. Beaten 4-1 in India last year, Ben Stokes' men are tipped to turn the tables on home soil in a series that launches the new cycle of the World Test Championship following South Africa's dramatic defeat of Australia in last week's final at Lord's. England, however, are without the retired duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad, their two most successful Test bowlers of all time with a combined 1,308 wickets between them. "It feels so good when both of them are not there," said Pant, adding: "But at the same time, they have enough ammunition in the England bowling line-up. "We don't want to take anyone lightly because our team is also young and still looking to develop themselves." England's desire to field an attack including both Jofra Archer and Mark Wood has been hampered by repeated injuries to the fast bowlers. Both Archer and Wood will be missing at Headingley, where Durham paceman Brydon Carse is set to make his home debut in an attack where Chris Woakes, who missed most of the start of the season with an ankle injury, is the senior seamer. "There's no hiding away from the fact that, over a number of years, England have had Broad and Anderson as the main two bowlers, so it is slightly more inexperienced," said Carse. The 29-year-old added: "I think it's a good chance for a couple of younger players, with slightly less experience, to stamp down some authority throughout the series." Broad, however, told The Times: "Looking at England, with all the injuries they've got -- where are they getting 20 wickets?"

Manchester City open Club World Cup campaign with an easy win against Wydad

Phil Foden struck inside the opening two minutes to fire Manchester City to an easy 2-0 victory over Wydad Casablanca in their Club World Cup opener on Wednesday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Jeremy Doku added a second before the break, helping City cruise past the Moroccan champions in front of a 37,446-strong crowd. City's afternoon was slightly soured by a late red card in the 88th minute to Rico Lewis for a reckless challenge, but manager Pep Guardiola expressed his satisfaction with the winning start. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like La Lotería de la Green Card está cada vez mas cerca: No se pierda este año la aplicación Green Card Lottery Experts Undo "It is so hot. The humidity is not easy. We had good moments, many new players. The first game in this group stage is always really, really important. I saw many, many good things," Guardiola said. Foden put City ahead early, reacting quickly after Wydad goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid parried Savinho's cross, and firing a first-time shot into the net. Live Events City extended their advantage just before the break when Foden swung in a precise corner, catching the Wydad defence off guard as Doku arrived unmarked at the far post to volley home. — FIFACWC (@FIFACWC) City have arrived at the Club World Cup determined to put a frustrating season behind them. While their opener against Wydad - third-place finishers in the Moroccan league - posed little challenge, tougher tests lie ahead. City will next face UAE side Al Ain before wrapping up Group G with a clash against Juventus . Guardiola used the match as a chance to rotate his squad, handing debuts to new arrivals Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki, while teenage defender Vitor Reis was given just his third outing since joining the club in January. For Wydad, the challenge was always going to be steep—made even tougher by the fact that coach Amine Benhachem had only taken charge shortly before the tournament began. "Before the game I told the players not to be afraid. That if we were going to lose we would lose our way," said Benhachem. "Nobody likes to lose, but we showed good spirit and we have something to work on for the second match."
