Lynx Coach Cheryl Reeve Sends Clear Message Before Paige Bueckers' Rookie Season
A sold-out crowd packed the arena as the Dallas Wings prepared to host the Minnesota Lynx in a matchup that carried a lot of weight as the WNBA debut of No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers.

Bueckers, facing the very franchise she idolized growing up in Minnesota, put up ten points, seven rebounds, two assists and one block in what was an 84-99 loss for the Wings.
Reeve, serving dual roles as head coach and president of basketball operations for the Lynx, spoke about Bueckers' roots before the game.
'She's from Minnesota. We're super proud of her… Minnesota is an incredible place for girls' basketball, women's basketball, and we've been a huge part of that. You know, we're a big reason why Paige, sort of, got a chance to dream… She deserves it.'
Born in Edina and raised in nearby St. Louis Park, Minnesota, Bueckers was the nation's top recruit out of Hopkins High School.

Joining UConn in 2020, she became the first freshman ever to sweep the AP Player of the Year, Naismith Trophy, Wooden Award and Nancy Lieberman Award honors in a single season.

After overcoming knee injuries that sidelined her in her sophomore and junior seasons, she returned to lead the Huskies to an undefeated conference slate and the 2025 NCAA championship.
Bueckers closed her UConn career as the third-highest point scorer in program history with 2,439 points and the highest career scoring average at 19.9 per game.

She started off with a three-word message on the situation. "That's the hope," White said. "The hope is that she's back." Her response does not instill confidence in the Indiana fan base that Clark will be seen again this season. It's a good sign that the Fever haven't already shut her down for the year, but quite often hope doesn't become a reality. Right now, Indiana is fighting for its playoff life. Hopefully, the Fever will have some good news to share about Clark in the near future. Caitlin Clark not with Fever in Connecticut today following death of boyfriend's grandmother
Caitlin Clark, who has been sidelined since July 15 with a right groin injury, did not travel with the Indiana Fever for Sunday's game at the Connecticut Sun. A team official declined to comment on any reason, but Clark's boyfriend, Butler assistant coach Connor McCaffery, shared an Instagram post late Saturday night mourning the death of his grandmother, Marit Smaby-Nowlin. 'I've been trying to think of what to say and I can't,' he wrote. 'It's impossible to put into words how much you meant to our entire family. I refuse to say goodbye, so until we meet again.' Will Caitlin Clark return to play? 'That's the hope. The hope is that she's back' Smaby-Nowlin, 80, was found unresponsive in a northern Minnesota lake Wednesday evening, according to the Star Tribune. The Sheriff's Office told reporters that responders arrived to find family members attempting to revive Smaby-Nowlin. An official cause of death has yet to be released. Smaby-Nowlin was brought back to land by first responders before emergency medical personnel took her to Cook Hospital, but she soon died, according to the Sheriff's Office.
