Fazl threatens Islamabad march over tribal issues
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has threatened to march on Islamabad if tribal issues remained unresolved, asserting that while his party remained loyal to Pakistan and its Constitution, it will not accept "forced decisions".
Addressing a tribal jirga in Peshawar on Monday, he called for confidence-building measures, urging the government to address tribal grievances through jirgas.
"If these jirgas fail to resolve the issues, we will march on Islamabad," he asserted.
"If we can march for religious seminaries, we can march for the tribal people as well. History will remember you as occupiers and oppressors," the cleric-politician added.
He said that he had consistently participated in tribal jirgas, including during the merger of the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).
He clarified that while his party did not oppose the merger outright, it had always insisted that the decision should not have been made without consulting the people of FATA.
"Before the merger, a jirga had decided that the future of tribal areas should be left to the will of the people – whether they wanted to continue under the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR), become a separate province, or integrate into an existing one."
A referendum was demanded on the issue, he added.
He recalled that the state had promised peace in return for the merger, yet today, neither security nor stability exists in K-P and the tribal districts.
"If there was peace, every individual's dignity and honour would be safeguarded. If there was peace, human rights would not be violated. If there was peace, there would be employment," he remarked, pointing to the worsening law and order situation.
The cleric-politician said that Islam was a religion of peace and his party advocates for a peaceful system. "We are in parliament, but establishing an Islamic system remains our firm demand."
"The Constitution mandates that no law contrary to Islam should be enacted, but we see a democracy devoid of implementation," he asserted.
Fazl further questioned who truly upheld the Constitution in the country. "When we talk about the Constitution and the rule of law, we are accused of attempting to break the country. The Constitution is a sacred contract."

At least three more terrorists killed in Zhob counter-terrorism sweep
Listen to article Security forces killed on Tuesday at least three more terrorists during a sanitisation operation on the night of August 10 and 11 in the general area of Sambaza along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, said a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The military's media wing added that weapons, ammunition and explosives were recovered from the killed terrorists. The action follows earlier anti-infiltration operations in the area. Over the last four days, security forces have intercepted infiltration attempts along the border and killed at least 47 terrorists. The total has now risen to at least 50. Read: 33 terrorists killed as troops foil border breach attempt The ISPR further added that the security forces remain committed to securing the nation's frontiers and preventing attempts to destabilise Pakistan. The operation was aimed at securing the nation's borders and preventing any attempts to disrupt peace, stability and development. Earlier on August 11, the United States formally designated the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its suicide unit, the Majeed Brigade, as Foreign Terrorist Organisations (FTO), in a move hailed in Islamabad as a major boost to Pakistan's counter-terrorism efforts. Read more: US blacklists BLA, Majeed Brigade In Afghanistan, the TTP has developed a symbiotic relationship with other terrorist groups — particularly the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) — to step up attacks in Pakistan. Pakistani officials say they have credible evidence of tactical and strategic coordination between the BLA's lethal Majeed Brigade and the TTP. Also read: Security forces kill 14 more terrorists in sanitization operation near Afghan border These claims were reinforced by the latest report of the UN Security Council, which explicitly states that the BLA – including its Majeed Brigade – and the TTP maintain "close coordination" in their terrorist activities. The report cites high-profile, complex attacks claimed by these groups in 2025 to illustrate the level of operational synchronisation between them. The TTP and its affiliated groups had fled across the border into Afghanistan following their rout in a major military operation, codenamed Zarb-e-Azb, in the erstwhile tribal areas of Pakistan in 2014. There, they found safe havens which they have since used as launch pads for attacks inside Pakistan. Balochistan hosts major projects under the multi-billion-dollar China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), part of Beijing's Belt and Road Initiative, and has often been targeted in insurgent attacks.

Accepting JUI-F demand, govt says will reconstruct demolished mosque
ISLAMABAD: The government has accepted the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal (JUI-F) demand to reconstruct the demolished Madni Masjid in Islamabad. Following successful negotiations between the two sides, the government agreed not only to rebuild the mosque but also to refrain from demolishing other mosques in the federal capital. Two rounds of talks took place between government representatives and JUI-F leaders. The government side was led by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, while the JUI-F delegation included Central Secretary General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Islamabad Ameer Mufti Owais Aziz, and other religious scholars. Senior officials, including the Capital Development Authority (CDA)chairman, the Islamabad Inspector General of Police, and the Deputy Commissioner, also participated in the negotiations. The dispute arose after the CDA, in a joint operation with heavy machinery and security provided by the Islamabad administration and police, demolished the Madni Masjid and its adjoining seminary. The mosque was razed on Saturday night, following the demolition of the seminary a day earlier (Friday night). Within hours of clearing the debris, CDA's environment wing planted tree saplings on the site. Minister TalalChaudhry said in a statement that the seminary was demolished with the consent of its management, adding that a new facility capable of housing 200 students had been built at an alternative location costing Rs40 million. The JUI spokesman, Aslam Ghori, has announced that the woman parliamentarian of his party has also submitted a resolution in the National Assembly while condemning demolishing of the Madni Masjid. However, JUI spokesman Aslam Ghori strongly condemned the demolition, as did the Wafaqul Madaris leadership. They said the action had caused unrest among the public and religious circles, particularly amid reports that other mosques in the capital might also be targeted for demolition. Earlier, religious scholars belonging to the Wafaqul Madaris Al-Arabia warned the federal government against demolishing mosques and seminaries in Islamabad, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said Sunday the religious seminary located on Murree Road was demolished with consultation and consent of seminary's management. The Wafaqul Madaris leadership strongly condemned the demolition of Madni Masjid and religious seminary located adjacent to the mosque building situated on Murree Road in front of Margalla Town.
