Drake Bell and Josh Peck open up about working with convicted abuser Brian Peck
Bell, who spoke out in the Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV docuseries in 2024, described the painful reality of working in an environment where his abuser was present daily. 'Where I felt most comfortable, where I was the happiest was when I was on set with you guys. And the worst part was every day I got there, the monster was there,' he told Peck.
Peck recalled learning about Brian Peck's 2004 conviction and feeling relieved at the time but admitted he didn't fully understand Bell's trauma until watching Quiet on Set. 'It's so much deeper. It's so much more unacceptable. It's not this clean, 'Well, he went to jail, so everyone's all better,'' he said.

During the trial, Bell faced a courtroom filled with industry professionals supporting his abuser. 'It was me and my mom,' he recalled. Peck condemned the 41 character witness letters written in Brian Peck's defense, calling it 'fucking bonkers.'
The second part of Bell's interview on Good Guys airs Thursday. The podcast release coincides with Bell's new album, Non Stop Flight, a 35-track semi-autobiographical collection.

Drake Bell finalises divorce from Janet Von Schmeling two years after separation
Drake Bell is officially proceeding with his divorce from Janet Von Schmeling, two years after the couple first separated. Court records confirm that the Drake & Josh actor filed documents in Seminole County, Florida, on Thursday to move the process forward. Von Schmeling originally filed for divorce in Los Angeles in April 2023, citing irreconcilable differences. At the time, she revealed that she and Bell had separated in September 2022 and requested legal and physical custody of their child, along with spousal support. Her filing came one week after Bell was briefly reported missing and later located. Bell's representative, Juan José Rovirosa, issued a statement explaining the development: "At this stage, both of them are simply concluding that legal process. Their priority remains the safety and wellbeing of their son, and they are doing so from a place of love and respect.' Bell married Von Schmeling in 2018 but did not publicly confirm the marriage until 2021, when he also revealed that they share a son together. Earlier this year, Bell shared in an interview that he has a new girlfriend but admitted balancing a relationship is challenging while touring. The actor has remained in the spotlight through personal and professional revelations, including his participation on The Masked Singer as the Ice King and his role in the docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, where he identified himself as a survivor of abuse at Nickelodeon.

Jason Reitman exits 'I'm Glad My Mom Died' series over creative differences with Jennette McCurdy
Jennifer Aniston's upcoming Apple TV+ limited series I'm Glad My Mom Died, based on Jennette McCurdy's bestselling memoir, is now at risk of being put on hold indefinitely after director Jason Reitman unexpectedly exited the project. Photo: AFP Reitman, known for Juno and Up in the Air, reportedly left following creative disagreements with McCurdy, who also serves as showrunner. The 10-episode drama-comedy is produced by Aniston who is set to portray Debra McCurdy, Jennette's late mother. Despite being backed by a strong production team, including Margot Robbie, Jerrod Carmichael, and Sharon Horgan, producers now have just two weeks to secure a new director. Sources told Puck that Reitman's departure followed a dispute that turned 'disrespectful,' as he aimed for a more comedic tone than McCurdy found appropriate. Although the memoir includes humour, it primarily deals with serious issues, including McCurdy's abuse allegations against her mother and former Nickelodeon producer Dan Schneider. McCurdy's book, released in 2022, quickly topped the New York Times bestsellers list and gained widespread attention for its honest depiction of childhood trauma and industry exploitation.

Drake Bell reveals Nickelodeon stars rarely receive 'residuals', calls industry 'corrupt'
Drake Bell is speaking out about the financial realities faced by many former Nickelodeon stars, shedding light on what he describes as a deeply flawed and exploitative system. In a recent appearance on The Unplanned Podcast, the Drake & Josh alum revealed that most actors from the network do not receive residual payments for reruns or streaming of their shows. 'That's the perception of the world,' Bell said. 'People think if you're on TV, you're rich. But that's far from the case.' He explained that actors typically aim for 100 episodes so their shows can enter syndication—a threshold Drake & Josh never reached in its four-season run from 2004 to 2007. 'That's where the money comes from,' he said, adding that many Nickelodeon performers miss out entirely on residual income. Despite Drake & Josh currently airing marathons on multiple networks and trending on Netflix, Bell claims he sees no financial return. 'I gotta figure out how to pay my rent this month,' he said. 'And some fat cat with a cigar is sitting at the top of Viacom getting rich off child labor.' Bell also condemned what he sees as systemic exploitation within the entertainment industry. 'It's a lot of evil, corrupt people,' he stated, suggesting that child actors are often left unsupported after their shows end. Earlier this year, Bell publicly identified himself as a victim of abuse by former Nickelodeon dialogue coach Brian Peck, a registered sex offender. His account was featured in the March 2024 docuseries Quiet on Set, which brought renewed scrutiny to the network's past handling of child talent.
