Atletico Madrid 'join race for Chelsea defender' with 'many clubs' circling - and Blues could DOUBLE their money AGAIN
Los Colchoneros are considering Veiga's merits against other options but will have to be decisive if they want to scoop him up.
That's because 'many' clubs are said to have enquired about the 21-year-old, who is valued between £26million and £30m, according to transfer reporter Florian Plettenberg.
Veiga joined Chelsea from Basel last summer for £12m but has struggled to break into the first team. That means they could more than double their money on him - something they almost did by selling Noni Madueke to Arsenal in a £52m deal.
The Portuguese has made just seven Premier League appearances, mostly being confined to cup outings, and spent the latter half of last season on loan at Juventus.
He was a regular starter for Juventus as they qualified for the Champions League and as such there is much interest in him.
The young defender has only managed seven Premier League appearances for the Blues
However, any suitors will have to fork out a competitive sum because he is contracted until 2031.
Whoever signs him will certainly be getting a versatile player - Veiga can play at centre-back, the left side of defence, or in midfield.
Wolves and Bournemouth were interested in him in January - and both could do with a centre-back - but Juventus won a scramble which also included Napoli and Stuttgart.
It has been Chelsea's custom in the BlueCo era to sign and sell players with joyful abandon and this transfer window is proving no different.
They have already forked out upwards of £210m on Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap, Estevao Willian, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr, and Kendry Paez.
A lavish spend, but they have recouped almost half that sum by selling Madueke, Djordje Petrovic, Bashir Humphreys, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Marcus Bettinelli, and Mathis Amougou, while they have let go of Lucas Bergstrom on a free.
You'd be forgiven if you weren't so familiar with some of those. Chelsea's website lists 33 first-team players.
Amougou only joined in February from Saint-Etienne on an eight-year deal but he has already been sold after two appearances to Strasbourg, who are also owned by BlueCo.
Goalkeeper Bergstrom, meanwhile, never managed an appearance across three years with the club while academy graduate Humphreys has signed for Burnley after loans with Paderborn, Swansea City, and the Clarets.

Patrick Bamford knew the writing was on the wall for him at Leeds but his Elland Road exit will sting for a player who found a sense of belonging at the club, writes AADAM PATEL
Deep down, Patrick Bamford perhaps sensed that the writing was on the wall. When Leeds won promotion last season, the 31-year-old was at the heart of the celebrations. Bamford hadn't started a league game all term but after all those years of going from club to club, Leeds is where he felt most at home. The striker who plays the piano, violin, saxophone and guitar played Wagon Wheel on the guitar for his teammates, sang Unwritten alongside Ethan Ampadu and even ended up phoning Chris Wilder to apologise for singing that Wilder chant. Come the end of May, he was alongside the Kaiser Chiefs as they played 'I Predict a Riot' - a regular at Elland Road - at Temple Newsam in Leeds.

More abuse as women's football grows
England defender Lucy Bronze says players are getting more abuse the bigger women's football becomes after team-mate Jess Carter revealed she has been sent racist messages during Euro has said she will take a step back from social media after experiencing "a lot of racial abuse" during the tournament and the Football Association has confirmed "working with police to ensure those responsible for this hate crime are brought to justice".The Lionesses will also stop the anti-racism move of taking a knee before matches, saying it was "clear we and football need to find another way to tackle racism".And Bronze, an ever present in England's run to face Italy in Tuesday's semi-final, said players have had to deal with "more abuse" since achieving international success."The bigger the game gets, the bigger the noise becomes, the more fans there are but the more critics there are," said Bronze."We're obviously open to critics, that's why we love the sport, but we're not open to abuse. Especially in women's football, the online abuse seems to be getting worse and worse. "We see it more in the stadiums in men's football and online, but I think with women's football there seems to be a real target online. "It's something that we're very aware of. There is a way to make a change. There is a solution. I don't have the answer, but I'm sure that there is one." 'We're never helpless as players' Bronze said Sarina Wiegman's squad held meetings before the tournament to discuss abuse and how it has become a "huge factor specifically in women's football".Before travelling to Switzerland, England striker Alessia Russo spoke of preferring to stay off social media because of how "damaging" the abuse can Chelsea forward Lauren James, who received racist abuse during the 2023 Women's World Cup and the following Women's Super League season, has said abuse "never really stops".Their comments came after British tennis player Katie Boulter spoke to BBC Sport about being subjected to online abuse and death 2021, football clubs, players and sporting bodies began a four-day boycott of social media platforms to tackle abuse and Bronze said she hoped that by standing before kick-off instead of taking a knee "noise will be reached around the world"."We know the people higher up are the ones who can ultimately put in things to make change. But I think we know we're never helpless as players," she added."Our voices are loud enough to be heard by people around the world, whether that's social media platforms or federations like Uefa and Fifa. "That's something we're very proud of as a Lionesses team, that we've created this voice and a platform so we can reach the highest of heights. We're willing to use that platform and that voice to make differences.""People need to be held accountable," she added and also called for more action from social media team-mate Carter's attempt stand-up to racist abuse and to call it out publicly, Bronze said: "For her to speak out is so empowering to our whole team in general, especially to the likes of someone like Michelle [Agyemang] who is in her first tournament. "It gives people more power to be brave, stand up and speak up and see all the team-mates and the country are behind [Carter]. That means a lot in moments like this. "A lot of players have known that this has always been an issue in football. To hear Jess talking about it yesterday, we're all just so disappointed in so-called fans writing these messages. "For Jess herself, she probably wouldn't put it out to the world, but it's obviously difficult for her to go through. We know it's not just Jess as well."

Man United legend Rio Ferdinand gives verdict on Marcus Rashford's Barcelona move with star set to join Spanish giants on loan
Former Man United defender Rio Ferdinand has had his say on Marcus Rashford's imminent loan move to Barcelona There is an agreement in principle for Rashford to join the Catalan outfit on a season-long loan from Old Trafford. The deal will include an option for Barcelona to sign the England international permanently next summer. Rashford began to fall out of favour under Erik ten Hag before things got worse under new manager Ruben Amorim. The Englishman was exiled by the Portuguese before joining Aston Villa on loan for the second half of the season. And Ferdinand believes there must be more happening in the background than fans are aware of. Speaking on his YouTube channel about Rashford's move, Ferdinand said: 'There must have been so much going on behind the scenes that we're just not aware of. 'And Marcus isn't someone who really wants to talk and do interviews, so you have to respect that. 'But I'm sure it'll come out in the wash at some point. Is it because of a lack of form? A lack of confidence? Mismanagement? Have the club failed him? 'Or is it down to him? Is there injuries we don't know about? Has he lost that desire? That form is gone and he can't rekindle it and can't get it back? 'What are the issues that have led to a young kid that's a graduate of the academy at Manchester United, which is famous for all of the great players that have come through there, that he says he wants to leave?' During his time at Villa, Rashford made 17 appearances and scored four goals, while he provided six assists. His current contract at United runs until the summer of 2028. Barcelona are set to pay all of Rashford's £315,000-a-week wages during his loan move. The 27-year-old has been training away from the United squad at Carrington in pre-season so far and has been joined by Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia. Another sign of Rashford's imminent departure from United came when his No10 shirt was given to new signing Matheus Cunha earlier this month. Rashford has played 426 games for United and has scored 138 goals and he has also provided 77 assists. He has won the FA Cup and the EFL Cup twice each and the Europa League once. So far in this transfer window Barcelona have signed winger Roony Bardghji and goalkeeper Joan Garcia. Barcelona had been heavily linked with Nico Williams, but the winger elected to sign a new ten-year contract with Athletic Bilbao. Hansi Flick has made signing a left-sided attacker one of his priorities at Barcelona this summer.
