Hollie Strano, former WKYC meteorologist, to do forecast work for southern radio stations

Yahoo21 hours ago
Hollie Strano, the former WKYC Channel 3 meteorologist who was fired in September 2024 from the station after 22 years, has found new work broadcasting the weather for southern radio stations, she said on Facebook.
"What an honor it is to be bringing you the forecast each day, from my hometown in Cleveland to your radios down South!" Strano posted. "Grateful for the opportunity, and excited for what's ahead."
The radio stations will be based in Georgia and Alabama, Strano reported.
'I love me, finally': Hollie Strano shares her recovery story, offers hope to others
Why was Hollie Strano fired from WKYC?
Strano was arrested and charged in November 2023 with one count of operating a vehicle under the influence by Cuyahoga Falls police after her vehicle crashed near Towpath Tennis Center on Akron-Peninsula Road, hitting a fire hydrant. She reportedly had a blood alcohol level of 0.244%, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08%. She later pleaded guilty to the charge.
Following Strano's dismissal, she sued her former company, claiming she was terminated for sharing her story on social media regarding her treatment for alcoholism and for promoting a product on her social media pages, although she said she received nothing of value from the brand for making the post.
Strano currently hosts the "Abruptly Authentic with Hollie Strano" podcast which streams on Youtube.

Severe thunderstorms could hit north and east of Denver on Saturday

We are moving into a typical pattern for Colorado weather with mostly sunny skies to start the days, then afternoon thunderstorms. Saturday, however, there is a chance some of the thunderstorms could turn severe due to the daytime heating and moisture streaming in from the Gulf. The mountains and foothills have the best chance for afternoon thunderstorms. While the foothills aren't under the threat for severe weather, people in the area could be dealing with outflows from the storms up to 40 miles per hour. Expect high temperatures across the Front Range to top out in the low to mid-90s. A similar pattern repeats on Sunday, although the threat for severe weather is reduced.

Local nonprofit provides donations to thousands hurt by Texas floods

(WHTM) — After the devastating floods that left thousands displaced in Kerr County, Texas, one Cumberland County nonprofit is helping in the recovery process. Mission Central of Mechanicsburg has been donating to those affected by disasters nationwide since 2002. Today, they packed a truck with 900 sanitation buckets, looking to assist in cleaning and laundry, as well as 2,000 menstrual hygiene kits. Executive Director Hope Harrison says the most important part of disaster relief is listening. 'For us, it's very important that we wait until they get to the ground and find out what the needs actually are, and so right now those 3 things are the biggest needs,' said Harrison. 'As time moves on, we'll hear more disaster relief, we're gonna hear more, and it will change.' The truck is expected to arrive in Texas tomorrow. Mission Central plans to send another in the coming days, as they accept donations year-round. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Extreme heat expected this weekend in South Florida could cause health risks to some

The NEXT Weather Team is tracking a scorching weekend across South Florida. While we will not be expecting a Heat Advisory, we will see heat indexes of 100-105 throughout the day on Saturday. Those triple digit "feels like" temperatures will return on Sunday. A high-pressure system moving across Northern Florida is driving away any chance we have of rain this weekend. The heat indexes will peak around noon on Saturday and last through the early evening hours and will not "cool-down" until after midnight. It's important to stay hydrated, limit outdoor afternoon activity and wear light-colored clothing. You're also encouraged to check on your senior relatives and neighbors who are extremely susceptible to the heat. The heat and dry conditions last all weekend with the regular summer rain returning by midweek.
