Let's explore which zodiac signs are often considered ideal fathers and what makes them stand out.

Cancer is known as the most nurturing sign of the zodiac. Ruled by the Moon, Cancer men are deeply emotional, sensitive, and protective. They are naturally caring and often form strong emotional bonds with their children. Cancer fathers are the ones who prioritize family above everything else. They ensure their children feel safe, loved, and emotionally supported.

Farmed production of some fish - and seaweed

Asia leads global farmed fish production (Image credit: AFP) The amount of farmed seafood we consume -- as opposed to that taken wild from our waters -- is soaring every year, making aquaculture an ever-more important source for many diets, and a response to overfishing. According to the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization, nearly 99 million tonnes of aquatic animals (fish, molluscs like oysters and mussels and crustaceans like prawns) were farmed around the world in 2023, five times more than three decades ago. Since 2022, the farming of aquatic animals has been steadily overtaking fishing around the world -- but with large disparities from species to species. Fast-growing species: by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Windows Users Don't Forget To Do This Before Monday Read More Undo The two biggest sellers on the market in 2023, carp and tilapia, mainly came from freshwater farming, while other widely-consumed fish, like herring, came just from deep sea fishing Thierry Laugier, a researcher at Ifremer, France's national institute for ocean science and technology, told AFP that fish farmers choose species that grow quickly and with simple requirements, to be able to control the life cycle. Sales of the most widely farmed fish in Europe, Atlantic salmon, came to 1.9 million tonnes in 2023, 99 per cent of which were farmed. "We know how to control the ageing or how to launch a reproduction cycle, through injecting hormones," Laugier said. Asia main producer: Asia is by far the biggest producer of farmed fish, accounting for 92 per cent of the 136 million tonnes -- of both animal and plant species -- produced under manmade conditions in 2023. "For carp, it comes down to tradition, it has been farmed for thousands of years on the Asian continent," the Ifremer researcher said. At the other end of the spectrum, sardines and herring are just fished in the oceans, mainly for profitability reasons as some fish grow very slowly. "It takes around two years to get an adult-sized sardine," Laugier said. He said farming of some fish has not yet been started as, "for a long time, we thought the ocean was an inexhaustible resource". Seaweed: Little known in the West, seaweed nevertheless accounts for almost a third of world aquaculture production. Almost exclusively from Asia, seaweed production increased by nearly 200 percent in two decades, to 38 million tonnes. It is mainly used in industry, in jellies, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, the expert said. He said seaweed also has the major advantage of absorbing not just CO2 in the oceans, but also nitrogen and certain pollutants. "And from an ecological point of view it is better to farm macroalgae than salmon," Laugier said.

Rare wetland birds flock back to Wicken fen within hours of restoration

Source: BBC The National Trust has reported the rapid return of rare wetland birds, cranes and great egrets, just hours after completing a peatland restoration project at Wicken Fen in Cambridgeshire. The restoration, which began a year ago, focused on re-wetting degraded peatlands that had previously been drained for agriculture. Despite being drained and degraded, Burwell Fen still held deep peat deposits from an ancient river, making it ideal for restoration. This major conservation effort aims to revive 590 acres (238 hectares) of lowland peat, a critical natural carbon store. Wetland restoration helps wildlife and discovers a 5,000-year-old tree By restoring these wetlands, the project helps reduce carbon emissions and create habitat for wildlife. After raising the water levels, rare species such as spoonbills, curlews, and little ringed plovers quickly returned, showing the project's immediate positive impact. According to BBC reports, the restoration also led to an exciting archaeological discovery. A 5,000-year-old bog oak was unearthed at Spinney Bank, predating Stonehenge. Tree-ring analysis showed the tree began growing in 2894 BC and lived for 222 years. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Discovering a tree that took root nearly 5,000 years ago is a humbling reminder of how much history is preserved in these ancient landscapes," said Mr Selway. Wicket Fen's restoration project protects the nature Though a suspected 17th-century cannonball turned out to be a 19th-century rollerball from a wind pump, the project remains the National Trust's largest lowland peat restoration to date. Emma Ormond-Bones, Wicken Fen's general manager, emphasized that the project not only supports wildlife recovery but also strengthens the landscape's resilience to future environmental challenges. This successful restoration at Wicken Fen offers hope for the future of wetland habitats, showcasing how careful conservation can quickly revive ecosystems and protect vital carbon stores.
