Imtiaz Ali Reveals REAL Reason Why Bobby Deol Was Removed From Jab We Met: 'Voh Wait Kar Raha Tha'

News1821-04-2025

Imtiaz Ali said Bobby Deol was considering offers from other directors and making him wait.
Bobby Deol recently revealed he was 'really upset" after being abruptly removed from Jab We Met, despite initiating its early development with Kareena Kapoor Khan and director Imtiaz Ali. Amid this, an old interview of Imtiaz Ali is doing the rounds on social media. While speaking to The Lallantop, Imtiaz recalled why Bobby was left out of the film.
Imtiaz Ali said, 'Jab We Met ko Bobby Deol ke saath banane ka plan kar raha tha. Start kari picture but usko kuch aur offers mil rahe the, kuch bade directors ke saath. Toh voh wait kar raha tha. Keh raha tha ki iske baad kar lenge, uske baad kar lenge. Toh, karte karte ek aisa waqt aagaya jo mujhe laga ki ab yeh theek nahi lag raha. "
Imtiaz added, 'Bohot waqt beet chuka hai kyuki vaise bhi, 5 saal tak maine ek hi film ki hai. Uske baad bhi ek do saal tak main kuch nahi kar raha tha. Toh matlab financially and even in life, you want to do things. Toh maine bola Bobby yeh film nahi banate hain. Let us decide this today. Let us shake our hands ki film nahi banate kyuki humara ek doosre ke saath sahi nahi rahega."
Imtiaz's interview has resurfaced amid Bobby Deol's recent revelation of feeling hurt. Speaking to Instant Bollywood, Bobby shared how he first discovered the script while watching a rush print of Socha Na Tha, which Imtiaz was directing with Bobby's cousin Abhay Deol. Impressed, Bobby urged Imtiaz to write a film for him, which eventually evolved into Jab We Met. 'I tried really hard to make that film (Jab We Met) happen; I reached out to a lot of people," he said.
Bobby claimed that he played a major role in bringing the production house Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision on board. The producers, he said, were interested in working with him but hesitant about backing Imtiaz, who was still relatively new at the time. Bobby pushed for the collaboration and successfully convinced them to give the director a shot.
He also reached out to Kareena Kapoor Khan through a contact to offer her the lead role, but she initially declined. Preity Zinta was also approached, but turned it down, saying she would consider it at a later time. However, despite his involvement in setting the wheels in motion, Bobby was ultimately dropped from the project. Kareena changed her mind, and the role eventually went to Shahid Kapoor, forming a duo that would go on to create one of Bollywood's most cherished romantic films.

Why Varun Grover criticised Anurag Kashyap for praising Sandeep Reddy Vanga? 'Kai badtameeziyan ki hai'

After the release of Animal, a divisive hit directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga , Anurag Kashyap shared a heartfelt post on Instagram praising the filmmaker. Calling Vanga "honest," "vulnerable," and "lovely," Kashyap's comments stirred reactions from the film industry . Filmmakers Neeraj Ghaywan and Varun Grover responded critically in the comments—Ghaywan wrote 'Cringe' and Grover simply commented 'No.' Months later, Grover elaborated on the reasons behind his reaction during an interview with The Lallantop. Speaking about his comment to The Lallantop , Grover clarified that he did not object to someone defending a piece of art, even if it's politically incorrect or divisive. However, his issue lay in the fact that Kashyap's post did not discuss Animal or its content—it instead focused entirely on Sandeep Reddy Vanga's character. According to Grover, it was less about standing by a film and more about standing by a person who, in his view, has behaved poorly in public. Grover pointed to multiple instances where Vanga had engaged in aggressive exchanges on social media. 'Kai badtameeziyan ki hai,' saying he recalled that the director had once even criticized veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar, claiming Akhtar did not know how to write and lacked understanding of the craft. Grover described these comments as delivered in an unnecessarily arrogant and disrespectful tone. This behavior, he said, went beyond artistic differences and entered the realm of personal disrespect and social misconduct. Kashyap's Response to Grover's Comment After Grover's comment on the Instagram post, Anurag Kashyap personally reached out to him. Within half an hour of the comment being posted, Kashyap called Grover to discuss the issue. According to Grover, the conversation was constructive. Kashyap reportedly listened attentively and acknowledged Grover's perspective, agreeing that the criticism made sense. Grover appreciated Kashyap's openness and willingness to engage in dialogue without letting hierarchy interfere, noting that Kashyap's egalitarian approach sets him apart in the industry. Vanga's Reputation and Film Legacy Sandeep Reddy Vanga has gained a reputation for his controversial public image and the intense themes in his films. Animal, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol, was a massive box office success in 2023. However, the film also drew sharp criticism for its depiction of violence and misogyny. Despite the polarized response, a sequel is already in development. More recently, Vanga has been involved in another controversy over his upcoming film Spirit with Prabhas. Initially linked to Deepika Padukone, the project saw a change in casting with Triptii Dimri replacing her. Reports suggested that Padukone requested shorter work hours post childbirth, which led to her exit. Vanga's cryptic social media posts accusing Padukone of 'dirty PR' and leaking the film's plot further intensified industry conversations around his behavior.

Last Updated: Singer Rahul Vaidya opens up about being blocked by Virat Kohli and reveals how Vikas Kohli reacted to the controversy involving Avneet Kaur. The tension between singer Rahul Vaidya and cricketer Virat Kohli made headlines recently, sparking online buzz and fan backlash. The issue began when Rahul hinted that the RCB champion had liked a post featuring actress Avneet Kaur, prompting a response that shook social media. Rahul later claimed that Virat blocked him following the comment, and also alleged that the cricketer's fans targeted his family – including his wife and daughter – with abusive messages. Now, in a recent chat with Instant Bollywood, Rahul has opened up further about the fallout. He shared that Virat's brother, Vikas Kohli, personally reached out to him after the incident and expressed displeasure about his public remarks involving the Indian cricket star. Rahul recalled, 'After the incident, his brother had said some things to me. 'Isse accha aap apni singing pe dhyaan dijiye.' He did not like whatever was happening, and that's the reason he said all these things to me." Reflecting on what Vikas said, the singer added, ''Aap kyu Virat ke baare mein bol rahe ho? Aap kyu publicity le rahe ho?' He said something like this, I don't remember the exact words. Then he said, 'Isse achha toh aap apne singing pe dhyan dete.' I know Vikas is a good guy, and I have not taken anything he said to my heart. Because the problem is that people just want to react without even knowing what the matter is." For those unfamiliar, the drama began when Rahul commented on Virat allegedly liking a social media post related to Avneet Kaur. Things escalated when Rahul revealed he was blocked by Kohli and became the target of fan outrage, including verbal attacks aimed at his loved ones. This ongoing back-and-forth has drawn mixed reactions online, with many weighing in on whether celebrities should call each other out publicly or handle matters privately.
