Is There Any Reserve Day For PBKS vs MI IPL 2025 Qualifier 2?
The match was supposed to start at 7:30 PM IST, but the covers were at the time of publishing this copy (9:25 PM IST). The main square was covered. There is no reserve day in place. The cut-off time for a 5-over game is 11:56 PM IST. There are no reserve days and if a match is not possible, Punjab Kings will enter the final on the basis of finishing at a better spot than Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 league stage. PBKS were table-toppers while MI were fourth.
Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is back for Punjab Kings as skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. The winner of this clash will meet Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final on Tuesday.
Chahal last played for PBKS in their league stage clash against Rajasthan Royals on May 18, before a right wrist injury kept him on the sidelines, including in the side's crushing eight-wicket loss to RCB in the Qualifier 1 in New Chandigarh. He now comes into the Qualifier 2 clash in place of left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar.
With PBKS bowling first, they have added pacer Vyshak Vijaykumar into the playing eleven in place of Prabhsimran Singh, who will now come in as the impact player during the chase. Iyer stated that the overcast and windy conditions played a part in him electing to bowl first.
'The wickets was also under covers yesterday. It's a fresh day, we've recovered pretty well, rejuvenated and our mindset is to go out there and win. Boys are in high spirits, everyone's thinking positive. The environment in the dressing room is top-notch at the moment, so I can't complain much,' he said.
Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya said he also wanted to bowl, while adding that left-arm pacer Reece Topley comes in for Richard Gleeson, who picked a niggle during their 20-run win over Gujarat Titans' in the Eliminator in New Chandigarh.
'Looks like a decent track, just need to bat well, assess the conditions early and I think we'll be okay. It (pitch) has gotten much flatter, the balls have stopped doing as much as it used to do. If you bowl well, fast bowlers tend to get some help.'
'At the same point of time, if you bat well, you can score a lot of runs. There are a lot of areas where we could have got better in the last game. Playing a tight crucial game, one day break, it's tough but we are into a rhythm and we know what we need to execute.'
'We came very early morning after the game, we needed some rest, most of the guys focused on recovery and being fresh for today. The intensity will be very important and we're looking forward to it,' he said.

MS Dhoni Makes Stunning Admission About CSK Captain: 'Slightly Worried About...'
Last Updated: MS Dhoni said Ruturaj Gaikwad's return will boost CSK's batting for the next IPL. He acknowledged recent struggles and stressed addressing team issues in the mini-auction. Legendary MS Dhoni said on Saturday that Ruturaj Gaikwad's return will strengthen Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) batting line-up in the next IPL season, after Gaikwad withdrew mid-way through the previous season due to an elbow injury. Dhoni assumed the CSK captaincy from Gaikwad, but the five-time champions finished 10th in the table with just four wins from 14 matches, struggling to deliver consistent batting performances. 'We are slightly worried about our batting order. But I think our batting order is quite sorted out now. Rutu (Gaikwad) will be coming back. He got injured. But he will be coming back. So, we are quite sorted now," Dhoni said during a private function, indicating that the Super Kings will retain Gaikwad. While pleased with Gaikwad's return, Dhoni mentioned that the team will also aim to strengthen their squad further through the mini-auction later this year. 'I won't say we (CSK) slacked off (in IPL 2025). But there were certain holes that we needed to plug in. A small auction is coming in December. Some loopholes are there, and we will try to plug those in," he added. Gaikwad's last competitive game was against Punjab Kings at Mullanpur on April 8. The Maharashtrian had signed a deal with English county Yorkshire but withdrew for personal reasons. However, he has been named in the West Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy, starting later this month. What MS Dhoni Said About Chennai Super Kings? Dhoni admitted that the Super Kings have underperformed over the last two seasons but stressed the importance of identifying and addressing the team's issues. 'Yes, the last couple of years have not been good for us. We have not been up to the mark. But what is important is for you to see the learnings. Yes, you had a bad season. But what went wrong? And that was the question for us last year also. 'We were like, okay, there are some shortcomings. But first we needed to exactly figure out what were the shortcomings and then look at solutions," he noted. Dhoni expressed his gratitude to the loyal CSK fans for their unwavering support during tough times and promised a better performance in the coming season. 'I feel more often than not we have been able to figure out what exactly went wrong. In sports, you know you can have a very good time and at the same time there will be periods when you won't be performing well. In CSK, more often than not, we are on the higher side. 'So, we do talk about the processes. But at the same time we do want the result to come to our side. Last year it (result) wasn't there. But looking ahead, we will try to sort out most of the things and we will hopefully be at our best," he detailed. The 44-year-old highlighted the strong bond he has built with Chennai and the IPL team over the years. 'It's a very long relationship that we have had and it started much before the start of IPL… 2005 was the time when I made my Test debut which happened to be in Chennai. So, it started from that point of time. And yes, CSK helped in a big way because all of a sudden I'm spending 45-50 days here." 'So, I feel the relationship over the years has grown. It helped me improve as a person. It helped me improve as a cricketer. So, CSK just happened. I think it's good for Chennai. So, today it's good for me also. Nowadays when we go and say CSK, it's not a brand only in India, but when we go to Australia, South Africa, or any of the cricket playing nations," he noted. CSK batting is sorted now because Ruturaj Gaikwad will be coming back: MS Dhoni
Chennai, Aug 2 (PTI) Legendary MS Dhoni said on Saturday the return of Ruturaj Gaikwad will bolster Chennai Super Kings' batting in the next edition of the IPL, after the top-order batter pulled out mid-way through the previous season with an elbow injury. Dhoni took over the CSK captaincy from Gaikwad but the five-time champions finished 10th on the table with just four wins from 14 matches, struggling to cobble together consistent batting efforts. So, we are quite sorted now," said Dhoni during a private function here, indicating that the Super Kings will retain the services of Gaikwad. While he was delighted for the return of Gaikwad to the CSK fold, Dhoni said the team will try to further strengthen the unit through the mini-auction later this year. 'I won't say we (CSK) slacked off (in IPL 2025). But there were certain holes that we needed to plug in. A small auction is coming in December. Some loopholes are there, and we will try to plug those in," he added. Gaikwad's last competitive outing remains CSK's match against Punjab Kings at Mullanpur on April 8. However, he has been named in the West Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy, beginning later this month. Dhoni admitted that the Super Kings have been well below-par over the last two seasons, but said it was important for the team to identify those grey areas. Dhoni profusely thanked the loyal CSK fans for their wholehearted support during the strife time, and promised to give a better account of themselves in the coming season.
