New easyJet flights are due to depart from London Luton Airport for Funchal, the capital city of Portugal's picturesque Madeira archipelago. Flights will operate every Monday and Friday throughout summer 2025, supporting the introduction of new holiday packages.
According to easyJet's UK Country Manager, Ali Gayward: "We are really pleased to be celebrating the launch of another new route from London Luton Airport this summer."

Gayward further praised the addition, stating that "Funchal is a fantastic addition" - likely owing to its subtropical climate, rugged volcanic landscapes, lush forest, and extensive hiking trails. The island is renowned for its famous Madeira wine with numerous local vineyards offering guided tours.

According to Lonely Planet, popular activities in Funchal include whale and dolphin spotting and volcanic pools. Tripadvisor highlights top attractions such as Monte Palace Madeira, which boasts serene gardens with wildlife, live music, and an art exhibition, as well as the high-altitude hiking trail of Pico do Arierio, reports the Express.
Visitors can soak in scenic views of nature and the city by taking a ride on the cable cars. Other notable attractions include the 3D Fun Art Museum and the vibrant street food market Mercado dos Lavradores.
easyJet's holiday offers
Seven nights at the 3* Dom Pedro Garajau in Funchal on a Bed & Breakfast basis for £505 per person including 23kg of luggage per person, transfers and flights from London Luton Airport on October 10, 2025.

Climate in Funchal in October, November and December
If you're wondering about the weather, Funchal's climate in November typically ranges from a comfortable 23C down to 17C; come December, temperatures hover between a mild 21C and 16C, ensuring a pleasantly warm winter getaway.
Gayward remarked: "We continue to provide the seven million customers we fly to and from Luton annually with even greater choice and of course, fantastic value."
He also highlighted the airline's commitment to the UK market: "Our continued growth and investment in the UK highlights the importance of the market for us where this year we operated more flying than ever before."

Narberth restaurant named among UK's best by national awards

The National Restaurant Awards took place on Monday (June 9), celebrating "the brilliance and vibrancy of the UK restaurant scene, honouring the best chefs and operators across the country". Awards handed out at the annual event included: National Restaurant of the Year Gastropub of the Year Chef of the Year Cocktail List of the Year Wine List of the Year Opening of the Year Best Restaurant in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (four individual awards) A list of the UK's top 100 restaurants was also revealed, featuring one Pembrokeshire restaurant - Annwn. The best restaurants in the UK The best restaurants in the UK, according to the National Restaurant Awards, are: Why Annwn is among the UK's best restaurants Annwn was ranked the 68th best restaurant in the country at the National Restaurant Awards. The Narberth-based restaurant describes itself as "a Welsh food movement" that pays homage to its Welsh surroundings and landscapes. It was recommended by the National Restaurant Awards for its "hyper-local food with a sustainable conscience". The Awards website explains: "Chef-patron Matt Powell serves a single 10-course menu that changes during the seasons using ingredients that are not only local to the area, including many that are foraged close by - often within walking distance of the restaurant - but those that support sustainable producers and the country's wild ecosystems. "A meal at Annwn starts with a selection of snacks, that might include bread 'cooked on the planc' and seasonal offerings such as cured and air-dried meats before getting to the heart of the matter with a procession of dishes that celebrate Pembrokeshire's bounty and which feature some unusual and not often used ingredients. "Plating is meticulous, with dishes served on a wide variety of crockery and items from the natural world to accentuate the restaurant's natural approach. "By contrast, the dining room is less formal than the food's presentation might suggest, with wooden tables and chairs, dark slate flooring, and vintage furniture creating a rustic but comfortable space in tune with its surroundings." Previous dishes at Annwn have included: Kilpaison oyster with purée, estuary plants, and an oyster cracker A broth of velvet swimmer crab, St Brides prawns, sea buckthorn emulsification, sea radish and (nicer than it sounds) scurvy grass Mallard accompanied by damson Paste, hazelnuts, and preserved hogweed seeds Customers agree Annwn is "one of the best in the world" It's not just the experts who love Annwn, but customers as well, with it boasting a perfect 5 rating on Tripadvisor from 46 reviews. It has been described by visitors as a "culinary gem", "one of the best in the world" and a "beacon worth travelling a long way" for. Have you visited Annwn before? (Image: Tripadvisor) One person, commenting about their experience at Annwn, said: "Top 3 restaurant in the world for a special experience. "I am fortunate to have eaten at highly rated restaurants all over the world, including those with multiple Michelin stars. "Annwn stands out for the authentic and deeply immersive experience into Welsh food, history, and community. It was worth every penny and much more." RECOMMENDED READING: Another customer, posting on Tripadvisor, added: "True to name, Annwn is out of this world, in the best of ways. "A fabulous experience of top Michelin quality food in a wonderfully intimate and personal setting. Cannot recommend highly enough. "Surely Annwn will be awarded its star very soon. "Matt is the most committed and passionate chef I have spoken with and, together with Naomi, they host a brilliant experience."

Revealed: The world's best destination for solo travellers has incredible historic landmarks and beautiful hiking trails

Solo travel is becoming increasingly popular with more and more travellers eager to explore the world alone. A new study has now revealed the best country in the world for solo travel taking into account safety, affordability of eating out and the ease of getting a flight from the UK. And top of the list is Italy which picks up a high score in each of the categories. From Rome's incredible historic landmarks to Bologna's world-famous tagliatelle bolognaise or the Dolomites' hiking trails, solo travellers will be spoilt for choice in Italy. Currently Rimini, an underrated seaside town, is the cheapest Italian destination to fly to in July. Both British Airways and easyJet recently launched direct flights to the beach hotspot. Next on the list is Japan, renowned as one of the world's safest countries. Solo travellers can explore the bright lights of Tokyo or head to Okinawa for beaches. Norway rounds off the top three. While its capital Oslo is one of the most expensive destinations for a city break, the country has some of Europe's most spectacular natural landscapes. Home to Europe's longest coastline, Norway has breathtaking beaches and offers tourists the chance to see the Northern Lights. From Rome's incredible historic landmarks to Bologna's world-famous tagliatelle bolognaise or the Dolomites' hiking trails, solo travellers will be spoilt for choice in Italy Spain takes fourth place on the list. Although its Costa del Sol beaches are particularly popular with Brits, there are many lesser-known spots to discover. Solo travellers could visit San Sebastian, known as Spain's gastronomic capital, or visit Granada's incredible Alhambra palace. Albania is ranked as the fifth best destination for solo travellers. An up-and-coming European holiday hotspot, the country is one of the more affordable destinations on the list. Sam Bruce, co-founder of Much Better Adventures, the company that commissioned the research, says: 'There are so many wild corners of the world still to explore, which is as exciting as it is overwhelming. 'That can make it tough to decide where to go next, especially if you're travelling solo. There's so much travel inspiration online, it can be hard to know what's right for you. 'Some of the most rewarding experiences come when you go beyond the beaches and the city breaks and into the wild places that most guides overlook. Getting away from the crowds doesn't just mean you have a more enjoyable experience, you're also helping to distribute the wealth of tourism to areas where it can have a positive impact and you'll learn a lot more about the places you see.' Portugal just misses out on a spot in the top five. The country is often described as the most affordable destination in western Europe and offers beaches and world-class hiking. Hikers might want to head to Nepal, which ranks sixth on the list. Home to Mount Everest, the country also has more accessible hiking suitable for walkers of all levels. Sam adds: 'Italy, Norway and Albania are home to a great range of activities and culture-rich towns where you can get lost in experiencing new and wild things with welcoming locals. 'But don't let the distance of Japan or Nepal put you off experiencing these captivating countries solo. Both are unforgettable destinations.' Montenegro, Jordan and Greece round off the top 10 list while Peru, Canada and Guatemala land just outside.
