Chelsea win FIFA Club World Cup with victory over PSG - as Donald Trump watches from stands
Chelsea have thrashed European champions Paris Saint-Germain to win FIFA's Club World Cup - as Donald Trump watched from the stands.
The French side were the heavy favourites to win the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey but were 3-0 down within 43 minutes.
They eventually finished the game with 10 men after midfielder Joao Neves pulled Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella's hair in the 85th minute.
Chelsea talisman Cole Palmer had scored almost identical finishes in the 22nd and 30th minute to give the West London side a two-goal advantage a third of the way through the tie.
The England international later played a neat pass to Brazilian forward Joao Pedro - who lifted the ball over PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to give the Blues a three-goal advantage just before half-time.
PSG came out strong at the start of the second half and nearly narrowed the deficit in the 53rd minute when Ousmane Dembele struck at goal from six yards.
However, it was well-saved by Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez who put in a strong performance all night for the West London side.
Goalscorer Pedro received a standing ovation from the Chelsea fans as he was replaced by Liam Delap on the 67th minute - with the Englishman nearly scoring with his first touches of the game as he had a shot from outside the area well-saved by Donnarumma.
Following the final whistle players from both sides appeared to be involved in a large altercation on the pitch.

Under former boss Mauricio Pochettino, Son's consistent displays helped turn Tottenham into genuine title contenders but silverware continued to allude them after a second-placed finish in 2017 was followed by a Champions League runner-up spot two years later. Whilst various members of Pochettino's team left not long after the Argentinian's winter departure in 2019, Son stayed to work under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte before he was tasked with leading a new era by Ange Postecoglou. Postecoglou named Son as his captain in the wake of Kane's high-profile switch to Bayern Munich and Hugo Lloris' departure from the first team and after a roller coaster two seasons under the Australian, they achieved the holy grail together on May 21. IndyCar officials and Pato O'Ward shocked by ICE-related 'Speedway Slammer' post
IndyCar driver Pato O'Ward and series officials were shocked by a social media post from the Department of Homeland Security that touts plans for an immigration detention center in Indiana dubbed 'Speedway Slammer," and includes a car with the same number as the only Mexican driver in the series. 'It caught a lot of people off guard. Definitely caught me off guard,' O'Ward said Wednesday. 'I was just a little bit shocked at the coincidences of that and, you know, of what it means. ... I don't think it made a lot of people proud, to say the least.' The post Tuesday included an image of a IndyCar-style vehicle with the No. 5 that had 'ICE' imposed on it multiple times similar to the display of a sponsor. It appeared to be a computer-created image, with the car on a track and a prison-like building in the background. Indiana is home to Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and is where the IndyCar Series is based. 'We were unaware of plans to incorporate our imagery as part of yesterday's announcement,' IndyCar said in a statement Wednesday. "Consistent with our approach to public policy and political issues, we are communicating our preference that our IP not be utilized moving forward in relation to this matter.' O'Ward said he didn't see the post until a friend texted him about it. 'I haven't really read into it too much because I don't think I want to,' he said. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in a separate post used 'SpeedwaySlammer' when announcing the new partnership with the state of Indiana to expand detention space by 1,000 beds. O'Ward, who is second in points in IndyCar this season, was in Texas to promote next year's inaugural Grand Prix of Arlington. That race on March 15 will be on a 2.7-mile layout that goes around the home stadiums of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys and MLB's Texas Rangers. O'Ward threw a ceremonial first pitch before the Rangers' game against the New York Yankees.

Gavin Williams nearly records no-hitter as Guardians put away Mets
August 6 - Gavin Williams was two outs away from the Cleveland Guardians' first no-hitter in 44 years as the visitors took down the New York Mets 4-1 to complete the sweep on Wednesday afternoon. After striking out Francisco Lindor to open the bottom of the ninth inning, Williams' no-hit bid was spoiled when Juan Soto belted a solo home run to dead center. Williams (7-4) struck out six and walked four before he was removed after throwing 126 pitches over 8 2/3 innings. Hunter Gaddis recorded the final out for his second save of the season. Williams was attempting to become the first Cleveland player to throw a no-hitter since Len Barker tossed a perfect game against the Toronto Blue Jays on May 15, 1981, a span of 6,987 games. Williams was at 75 pitches through five innings, 89 through six, 97 through seven and 111 through eight. His season high was 109 pitches on May 26 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. David Fry and Angel Martinez each homered for the Guardians, who have won seven of eight. New York left-hander David Peterson (7-5) allowed four runs and five hits in six innings.
