Aldi Australia's most popular kitchen buy ever is finally back - and it's just $6.99

Daily Mail11-07-2025
After months of hope, bargain-loving Aldi shoppers are finally getting what they asked for.
Next week marks the return of a cult-status kitchen buy that lasts for years, costs just a few cents per metre, and is one of the store's most in-demand buys.
From Wednesday, July 16, Aldi will re-stock its infamous Goliath 300m Cling Wrap as part of its Bulk Household Special Buys, and long-time shoppers are already clearing space in their pantries.
At just $6.99 for 300 metres (that's less than 2.5 cents per metre), it's no wonder this jumbo-sized roll of cling wrap has achieved cult status among Aussie households.
One fan, from the popular Aldi Mums Facebook page, bragged that her roll lasted an impressive two years and three months.
'Finally finished the 300m cling wrap after 2y3m!' she wrote. 'And then the hubby bought the 600m today. Guess we won't need another box for 4.5 years.'
Even consumer watchdog CHOICE gave it a solid thumbs-up in their last wrap comparison, scoring it 78 per cent for performance, praising its strength, seal, and microwave durability.
The massive wrap roll is part of a larger money-saving line-up landing at Aldi, which also includes: 90m Baking Paper ($10.99) and 150m Aluminium Foil ($16.99).
However, while one favourite makes its return, others are becoming increasingly hard to find.
This month the much-loved frozen corn cobs and the popular Choceur Milk Chocolate Mini Bars have all but disappeared, much to shoppers dismay.
Sold in packs of 11 'mini' chocolate bars, one customer described the milk chocolate that features a luscious milk crème filling as a 'Kinder replica'.
Taking to a Reddit thread dedicated to Aldi Australia, a woman wrote a concerned post under the heading: 'Please don't tell me they got rid of these?'
Sharing a product image of the Choceur Chocolate Milk Mini Bars packet, she wrote: 'I feel like they suddenly disappeared from all stores – I've been buying them for years.'
'They're my number one guilty pleasure,' she added, alongside two 'sobbing' emojis.
Commenters quickly chimed in, adding that they too had also recently noticed the product's absence.
'Noooo! I was wondering why I couldn't find these anymore,' replied one commenter.
But in positive news for chocolate-lovers, it seems chocolate's in-store disappearance is only 'temporary'.
An Aldi Australia spokesperson told FEMAIL that Choceur Chocolate Milk Mini Bars have indeed been removed from shelves - but only for the time being.
'There has been a temporary disruption to the supply of the customer favourite Choceur Chocolate Milk Mini Bars,' the Aldi spokesperson explained.
'However shoppers can anticipate its return to shelves around the end of September.'
The frozen corn cobs on the other hand, aren't discontinued, they're just much harder to find, it seems.
Earlier this week, disappointed shoppers took to Reddit again to share their struggle to locate frozen corn cobs at Aldi and discuss rumours of a shortage in supply to the budget supermarket chain.
It began when a shopper uploaded a post titled: 'So what happened to frozen corn cobs???'
Shoppers were puzzled that frozen corn cobs appeared to have disappeared, while bags of frozen corn kernels still appeared to be plentiful. Aldi sells Market Fare Corn Kernels in a 1kg bag for $4.19
Aldi stocks frozen Market Fare Corn Cobs in a 1kg bag, priced at $4.59. The budget supermarket also sells Market Fare Corn Kernels in a 1kg bag, priced at $4.19.
FEMAIL reached out to Aldi for comment on this one too, with a spokesperson confirming they were 'not experiencing a shortage' - despite some shopper's recent difficulties locating the product.
'Our Market Fare Australian Corn Cobs are a much-loved item across our stores,' they said. 'While we are not experiencing a shortage, if customers can't get hold of our frozen product and are looking for alternatives, they can try our fresh The Good Stuff Sweet Corn Cobbettes or New Season Corn Kernels that you can grab off our shelves.'
Nevertheless, the Reddit post was met with sympathetic replies from fellow shoppers who agreed that they too had recently struggled to find the popular frozen vegetable in their local Aldi store.
Some hypothesised that they believed the missing item was a result of broader 'seasonal' and 'supply' issues, but an Aldi shelf stacker put their minds at ease with one encouraging comment.
He claimed that they had personally placed 'three boxes of cobs into our [store] freezer yesterday, so they still exist at least for now'.

Rugby league bosses strike bombshell partnership with one of the world's most powerful individuals - as they look to take the NRL global

The NRL has once again shown it is not sitting still when it comes to innovation. Growing the sport has been a primary objective of the league for some time, with footy bosses reportedly meeting with one of the most powerful figures in the sporting world this week. According to Phil Rothfield of the Courier Mail, Australian Rugby League Commission chair Peter V'landys and NRL CEO Andrew Abdo took a flying visit to meet with NFL boss Roger Goodell in the United States. Amid the success of the NRL's Las Vegas round, the duo spoke with Goodell, who has been the commissioner of the NFL since 2006, on how he can assist to improve and grow the NRL around the world. Goodell, who hails from New York, reportedly banked a jaw-dropping $97million during the 2023 NFL season. As the commissioner of one of the biggest sporting franchises in the world, Goodell oversees the footballing operations of the NFL, and has agreed to collaborate with the NRL on how the league can improve its season-opening matches in the US. According to Rothfield, Goodell is keen to help rugby league chiefs gain greater exposure in the US, and in return, the NRL is will head up their end of the bargain by promoting the NFL's first regular season game in Australia. In February, the NFL announced that the league would be hosting its first-ever match Down Under, with the game set to take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 2026. The Los Angeles Rams are one of the teams who has been announced to play in that game. But their opponents are yet to be revealed. 'Expanding to Australia underlines our ambitions to become a global sport and accelerate international growth,' Goodell said. And V'landys revealed the nature of the talks he has held with Goodell, revealing both leagues are going to collaborate with each other to further their interests. 'We spoke about a lot,' the ARLC boss said, with Rothfield reporting that their meeting with Goodell went on for over an hour. 'We basically made a decision to support each other in what we're trying to achieve in both countries. 'We'll back what they're doing in Australia and they'll back us in Las Vegas from a promotional sense. 'It is a really important relationship that we've been able to establish.' And according to The Courier Mail, NRL chiefs also discussed how the NFL distributes its broadcast rights with some of the world's largest television entities. The NRL has enjoyed success in the US and around the world following the launch of it's annual opening-day fixture in Las Vegas 'We had an hour (chatting) with him. He even invited us back for the Super Bowl,' V'landys said. 'He doesn't know rugby league well but is aware of what we're trying to achieve in Vegas each year.' However, footy supremo V'landys has raised some concerns over the league's next television deal. Their agreement with Nine will extend until the end of the 2027 season, but there are concerns that bosses could sell broadcasting rights to streaming services like DAZN, Netflix and Amazon - all of whom are keen to claim a slice of the pie. Mail Sport reported back in March that the league wants to split the rights up in order to create a bidding war between free-to-air TV stations and subscription services.

Major discount store with 178 shops will shut TWO branches in just hours as closing down sale launched

A MAJOR discount store with 178 shops will shut two branches and has launched huge closing down sales. The Original Factory Shop (TOFS) is preparing to close sites in Bridlington and Caernarfon this Sunday, July 20. 1 Both branches will close for the last time tomorrow, giving shoppers just hours to say their goodbyes. Huge closing down sales have been launched across the stores, with the Bridlington branch offering 70% off all stock. Meanwhile, the Caernarfon is also offering 70% off all items in store, with employees encouraging shoppers to "grab a bargain while you can". That means a £2 item will now scan for 60p and a product which cost £80 will now cost £24. The closures have come as a blow to some locals with one sharing they were "so sick of things closing down". A fan of the Caernarfon store also said: "The only decent shop we had left such a shame." While another added: "Sorry to see the store closing staff and manager were very helpful." And another upset shopper chimed in: "Gutted. Not a great decision." The budget retailer has been closing stores across the UK as part of a major restructuring. The brand already closed down eight stores in late June, including branches in Pershore and Perth. Major card chain with 163 shops launches closing down sales ahead of shutting its doors for good A site in Cumbria also closed down in July 12. A further three stores - Middlewich, Heswall and Ashbourne - are also set to close but no date has been given yet. Private equity firm Modella bought The Original Factory Shop back in February and has since launched a restructuring effort to renegotiate rents at 88 TOFS stores. Modella is known for picking up struggling retailers, having also recently acquired Hobbycraft and WHSmith 's high street shops. It is set to rebrand all WHSmith high street stores to TGJones, and has brought in advisers to look at potential options for Hobbycraft. At the end of April, Modella drew up plans to initiate a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) for TOFS. Companies often use CVAs to prevent insolvency, which could otherwise result in store closures or the collapse of the entire business. They allow firms to explore different strategies such as negotiating reduced rent rates with landlords. TOFS previously told The Press and Journal that a "number of loss-making stores will have to close" as part of the restructuring. RETAIL PAIN IN 2025 The British Retail Consortium has predicted that the Treasury's hike to employer NICs will cost the retail sector £2.3billion. Research by the British Chambers of Commerce shows that more than half of companies plan to raise prices by early April. A survey of more than 4,800 firms found that 55% expect prices to increase in the next three months, up from 39% in a similar poll conducted in the latter half of 2024. Three-quarters of companies cited the cost of employing people as their primary financial pressure. The Centre for Retail Research (CRR) has also warned that around 17,350 retail sites are expected to shut down this year. It comes on the back of a tough 2024 when 13,000 shops closed their doors for good, already a 28% increase on the previous year. Professor Joshua Bamfield, director of the CRR said: "The results for 2024 show that although the outcomes for store closures overall were not as poor as in either 2020 or 2022, they are still disconcerting, with worse set to come in 2025." Professor Bamfield has also warned of a bleak outlook for 2025, predicting that as many as 202,000 jobs could be lost in the sector. "By increasing both the costs of running stores and the costs on each consumer's household it is highly likely that we will see retail job losses eclipse the height of the pandemic in 2020."
