Mia Goth to star in The MaXXXine actress has signed onto the Shawn Levy-directed movie, which already has Ryan Gosling on board. The news comes hot off of reporting that recent Oscar winner Mikey Madison turned down the project over pay. Starfighter is currently scheduled for a May 2027 release.

Samuel L. Jackson joins the Taylor Sheridan Cinematic Universe Deadline is reporting that the honorary Oscar winner has signed onto NOLA King, a spin-off of the Sylvester Stallone-starring Tulsa King. According to the trade, Jackson will appeared in episodes of Tulsa King's upcoming third season before spinning off down to the Big Easy. Dave Erickson from Mayor of Kingstown is set to write.

If you're still in the midst of a dazed high following the Lionesses' stunning triumph at the Euros, then I have more joyous news for you: the film that changed the game for women's soccer in Britain (and everywhere else) over two decades ago, Bend It Like Beckham, is now, finally, getting the Hollywood sequel treatment. News broke via Deadline on the day before the Euros final that Gurinder Chadha, who directed the original cult classic, now has a follow-up officially in the works. 'I'm excited to revisit the original characters and revive the enduring story and build on the legacy we helped to create for the women's game,' she told the publication, while, coincidentally, in Basel for the historic match. She added that the first film's principal cast—Parminder Nagra, Keira Knightley, Archie Panjabi, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Juliet Stevenson, Anupam Kher et al—'are aware that a sequel is being developed, but they obviously want to see a script before they commit. Everything hinges on the script and if the original cast likes it. I am working really hard to make sure every character I bring back has a decent arc and scenes.' Despite a sizeable appetite from Bend It's fans and the increasing prominence of women's football globally, Chadha admits that, for more than 20 years, 'I didn't want to do anything because I didn't have a story. And then I came up with a great story, [a] really super-cool story. So now I'm inspired. [I] literally came up with it just about a month ago. It's my very clear wish to bring the characters back very, very soon. Women's football is more competitive, more exciting, and more global than ever. It is an honor for me to be a small part of it.' So, what changed? Well, it seems this year's Cannes Film Festival was pivotal: It was there that Chadha was introduced to Emma Hayes, the head coach of the US women's soccer team, who, naturally, has no shortage of insight on the game at the very highest level. Since then, the pair have discussed a potential sequel further, and are now working on it 'collaboratively.' It's likely that Chadha's co-writer on the first film, Paul Mayeda Berges, will be back too, and the filmmaker noted that the aim is to have the sequel on screens by 2027—in time for both the 25th anniversary of Bend It Like Beckham and the next FIFA Women's World Cup, where the Lionesses will attempt to take the top prize from defending champions Spain.

Fans react as George Lucas makes first-ever appearance at Comic-Con
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — On the final day of Comic-Con, fans in San Diego were treated to a moment that was truly historic. For the first time in the convention's history, Star Wars creator George Lucas appeared onstage at the iconic pop culture event. Lucas joined fellow Oscar winners Guillermo del Toro and Doug Chiang for a Sunday morning panel that filled Hall H to capacity. Jerry Vanderstelt is known for his fine art reproductions and original Star Wars-themed work. He's been a regular at Comic-Con for nearly two decades and says the event has had a profound impact on his life. 'Some of the best things that have ever happened in my career were because of San Diego Comic-Con,' he said. George Lucas, Guillermo del Toro give first look at narrative art museum at Comic-Con On Sunday, things came full circle for Vanderstelt as Lucas took the stage, marking his first-ever Comic-Con panel appearance. 'It's wonderful that he participates in the pop culture of today, especially as the man who created a movie that changed film forever,' Vanderstelt said. Over at booth 2135, illustrator and fan Russell Walks reflected on Lucas's influence. Years ago, Walks pitched a trading card series based on Joseph Campbell's 'Hero's Journey' to Lucasfilm. He was initially turned down, but he didn't give up. Instead, he wrote a letter directly to Lucas. 'I get goosebumps when I talk about it,' Walks said. 'A month or so later, I got a phone call from Lucasfilm. It was George's secretary, and she read a note he had left her to read to me. It just said, 'I love the artwork you sent. I like the note even more. We're going to give you permission to do this story.'' During the panel, Lucas and Del Toro teased the upcoming Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, a project that's quickly becoming a must-see for fans. 'My favorite part was actually hearing the stories between George and Guillermo del Toro,' one fan said. 'They talked about the importance of narrative art, and how it's something we borrow for a time, then pass along to the next generation.' For artists like Walks, the moment was about more than nostalgia. 'To persevere, and to realize that Star Wars in general is more than just lightsabers and laser blasts, it's about redemption and finding what you're made to do, and doing it,' he said. ‘It' Is Back and Derry-er Than Ever: HBO Series Is the Latest in Stephen King Cinematic Universe
The only other author, besides Stephen King, who can lay claim to having more of their work mined for television and film has got to be God. Show of hands of people who saw 'The Life of Chuck' earlier this year and had the 'Oh, right, that was based on a Stephen King story, of course' moment when the credits rolled. King is extremely prolific, and his myriad of tales tap into something specific about the human psyche — and most especially the innocence of childhood. Think of some of the most enduring King adaptations. 'The Shining.' 'Carrie.' 'Stand By Me.' The perspective of youth, in all its awkwardness, terror, and joy, is a persistent throughline. 'It' is the best example of this aspect of his work. The mammoth 1,000+ page 1986 novel has been memorably translated to film twice — once as the two-part Tim Curry 1990 miniseries and again as the Bill Skarsgård two-part film series (2017 and 2019). Generations of children of felt chills at the sight of rain jackets and red balloons because of these films and their source material. A (second) teaser for 'It: Welcome to Derry' was released July 27, which you can watch below. Warning: it may spoil whatever love you have for 'The Music Man.' What's most interesting about this trailer comes about 57 seconds in, when a bus is shown for 'Shawshank State Prison,' which is of course the setting of the King novella 'Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption and its subsequent acclaimed film adaptation 'The Shawshank Redemption,' long listed as the No. 1 film ever by IMDb users. This puts the series not only in the same universe as the most recent 'It' films, but potentially in the same world as many other King works. The connections between King's own works have been discussed for decades — at least since the 2001 book 'The Stephen King Universe' was published. Pennywise — the titular 'It' clown — and the town of Derry are mentioned in a variety of King stories and screen translations, including 'Castle Rock,' 'The Dark Tower,' Insomnia,' 'Maximum Overdrive,' and 'Gray Matter.' Carrie White — you know, 'Carrie' — is mentioned directly in the 'It' novel. I mean, even the Overlook Hotel from 'The Shining' is mentioned in his book 'Misery.' Then King wrote his own sequel to that, 'Doctor Sleep,' which also became a movie. Before the Marvel Cinematic Universe made it on to our screens, these subtle connections between Maine's favorite author's impressive catalogue was already on full display. So, right out of the gate, to include this nod and place 'Welcome to Derry' right smack nab in the Stephen King pantheon is indeed a 'welcome' move. At Comic-Con on July 27, fans were also treated to a 10-minute preview of the new show (which has not been made available online as of this writing). According to Entertainment Weekly, the scenes — set in 1962 — follow a boy who sneaks into a movie theater, is caught, and then escapes… only to hitch a ride with a mild-mannered family that turns out to be the shape-shifting 'It.' This intro echos that of its source material, which also opens on a young boy's gruesome death at the hands of Pennywise. The eight-episode 'It: Welcome to Derry' premieres on HBO and HBO Max this October. Watch the first teaser trailer, released in May, below.
